Yakuza 5 (龍が如く5 夢、叶えし者, Ryū ga Gotoku 5: Yume Kanaeshi Mono, lit. "Like a Dragon 5: Fulfiller of Dreams") is a videogame by SEGA released in December 2012 in Japan and December 2015 in the rest of the world as a digital download for PlayStation 3. A remastered version was released in Japan in June 2019 for the PlayStation 4 and made available worldwide in February 2020 as a PSN download and physical edition of the Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 trilogy. The trilogy was also released on XBOX Game Pass, Steam, and Windows 10 in January 2021. The game features five playable characters: Kazuma Kiryu, Shun Akiyama, and Taiga Saejima from the previous game, as well as Haruka Sawamura and the newly-introduced Tatsuo Shinada. As well as the districts of Kamurocho, Tokyo, and Sotenbori, Osaka from previous games, there are also playable districts in Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Nagoya, making for 5 in total.

Handguns

Beretta 92FS

Making a return from Yakuza: Dead Souls is this Beretta 92FS model. The shape of the safety catch and hammer are different compared to the real life model, and there is also a large "step" on the slide like the earliest variants of Beretta 92.

Colt 1911-type pistol

Also returning from Dead Souls is this Colt 1911 derivative, seen being used by Masaru Watase. It is similar in appearance to the Para Ordnance LDA 7.45.

Makarov PM

This handgun has appeared in every Yakuza game since Yakuza 3. It retains its same differences from the real Makarov as it does in all these other games; those being an extended barrel and ring hammer. This also appears in-game as the "9mm automatic pistol," as well as a multicoloured version called "Mr. Random."

Kiryu however, has other ideas, appropriating the weapon to use against them. Yakuza 5 allows the player to put found weapons away, allowing them to have a gun pretty early on in the game.

Minebea P9 (replica)

Returning from Yakuza: Dead Souls is the Minebea P9 replica (it is actually modelled as an airsoft replica, despite being presented as a live firearm in Dead Souls). This is used by Akiyama in Saigo's "Suicidal shooting" courses, and is this time presented as a replica weapon.

Modified SIG P230

A very customized version of the SIG P230 with a bronze finish and a differently-shaped trigger guard appears as the "Dragon Special" pistol. Why they decided to recycle this highly inaccurate model from Yakuza 3 rather than reuse the much more accurate model from Yakuza: Dead Souls is unclear.

SIG Pro SP2009

The heavily-customized SIG Pro SP2009 seen originally in Yakuza 3 makes a return in this game, being seen in Kamiyama's weapon workshop.

Nambu Model 60/Smith & Wesson Model 36

This Nambu Model 60 and Smith & Wesson Model 36 hybrid with a custom handgrip and 2.5" barrel is purchasable as the "Double Action Revolver," which wrongly holds 6 rounds. It also does not appear to be modelled with a cylinder release. Himura relieves a dead prison guard of one of them to shoot Kugihara during Saejima and Baba's escape from Abashiri Prison, Hokkaido. He seems surprised that prison guards still use these old revolvers, despite the fact that--as a former detective--he ought to have known that uniformed police officers also still use them.

The remastered version of the game fixes this rather erroneous description. Obviously the new localisation team have been doing their homework by reading IMFDB.

Nambu Model 60

Police officers in the game are modelled with the Nambu Model 60 in their holsters, as evidenced by the distinctive shape of the butt and lanyard ring, which are missing on the above hybrid revolver.

Walther PPK

The Walther PPK is somewhat of a Yakuza series Easter egg, being seen used by the games' respective antagonists. The Yakuza model replaces the button magazine release with a lever similar to that of the decocking lever found on a SIG-Sauer P230.

For some odd reason, police officers are using Walther pistols even though they have their Nambus holstered.

Shotguns

Baikal MP-133

The Baikal MP-133 shotgun can be purchased as the "Broken M1985." This name may be a reference to the questionable build quality of these weapons.

Coach Guns

A number of different Coach Guns are used as part of Taiga Saejima's hunting sidequest. These are referred to as "rifles" in the game, so are likely fitted with rifled barrels and firing slugs for bear hunting. This would classify it as a rifle in many countries, but the IMFDb definition of a shotgun is a weapon that is chambered for shotgun cartridges.

Saejima getting his eye in with the O/U shotgun. Of interest here is the chrysanthemum marking, which was the Imperial Seal of Japan. This suggests that the shotgun was manufactured prior to WWII.

Submachine Guns

Minebea M-9

Another returning player model from Yakuza: Dead Souls is a submachine gun based on the Minebea M-9, a Japanese licensed variant of the Uzi submachine gun. It is seen in a scene where yakuza men open fire on the Theater Square. These guns are fitted with what appear to be suppressors, but the gunfire sound is not actually suppressed.

Rifles

Accuracy International Arctic Warfare

Another returning model from Dead Souls, the Accuracy International Arctic Warfare bolt-action rifle is seen in the hands of tactical officers.

The weapon dealer van model returns from Yakuza 3, complete with these strange looking rifles. They almost resemble an Armalite AR-10, except with a misshapen sight/carry handle and an odd front grip.

Other

FGM-148 Javelin

The FGM-148 Javelin missile launcher model from Dead Souls is seen very briefly in a cutscene. Two of them are used by Tojo Clan members to blow up a bunch of cars behind Kiryu. Given that the Javelin is a fire-and-forget weapon, they must have designated these cars as the target before firing in the hopes that the missiles would somehow blow a big hole into Kiryu before taking to the air. Either that, or they just thought it would be a good distraction.

The missiles start out very slowly as they are shunted out of the launcher, before the rockets ignite and propel them forward at speed.

Kiryu deftly sidesteps the missiles as they move from a linear trajectory to take to the air in order to bomb the random empty Yamagasa family cars they were aimed at.

Kiryu then looks on as said empty Yamagasa family cars are themselves launched into the air by the explosion.
