The '''Werndl Rifle''' is a series of Austro-Hungarian single shot, breech-loading battle rifles, designed by Josef Werndl. The first model, the '''M1867''' (also known as Werndl–Holub), replaced the outdated infantry [[Lorenz Rifle|Lorenz M1854]] rifle. It was followed by the improved '''M1873''' which in turn followed by the modified '''M1873/77''', which uses a more powerful cartridge. Most models were manufactured in several versions, including an infantry rifle, short rifle, and carbine.
