Welcome to IMFDB

Before you do any editing please take the time to read the Rules, Standards and Principles. This is a very important document that explains how this website is setup as well as telling you what is and isn't allowed. If it is determined by an admin that you have not read these rules, your account will be suspended. Continued non-compliance may result in a permanent ban. After that you should also read the IMFDB Screencapping Guide and the IMFDB Style Guide to familiarize yourself with the image and formatting requirements for pages you create.

There are a number of pages that desperately need your help. You can find these Incomplete pages here.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here but make sure to sign your post by typing --~~~~.

Finally, IMFDB has a forum set up here that is only available to registered members. There is lots of good stuff to see there. If you would like to join the forum, please post HERE and an account will be created for you.

Now, HAPPY EDITING! bunni (talk) 22:03, 13 July 2015 (EDT)

Carpati

Unless it's actually been used in a film, TV show or video game, there's no need to add it. Especially since you haven't actually uploaded the image. You may make a note of it on the talk page if you'd like. --Funkychinaman (talk) 15:40, 14 July 2015 (EDT)

As I said on the Anaconda 3 discussion page, I think that's actually a PP. You're basing the ID solely on geography while ignoring its appearance. And without any appearances on the site, the Carpati is not eligible for its own page.

You may want to check out the help page to get a better handle on editing. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:18, 17 August 2015 (EDT)

Formatting

Please make note of the changes I made to the Alfred Sauchelli Jr. page and apply them to the Frank Aquilino page. You can also go to the IMFDB Page Templates page for more coding help. --Funkychinaman (talk) 09:55, 20 August 2015 (EDT)

You just have to delete the line of code. Actor images on actor pages also have to be right-justified. It's all on the IMFDB Page Templates page. --Funkychinaman (talk) 16:00, 20 August 2015 (EDT)
There's a section for actor pages. --Funkychinaman (talk) 16:37, 20 August 2015 (EDT)
You might want to figure out how to proper format an actor page first before creating more. --Funkychinaman (talk) 16:45, 20 August 2015 (EDT)
I locked down the Ted Neustadt page because I wanted you to finish the Frank Aquilino page first. There's no point creating multiple pages if you can't even properly format a single one. --Funkychinaman (talk) 17:23, 20 August 2015 (EDT)
The official limit is just one, so he qualifies. I just want you to be able to properly format a page. --Funkychinaman (talk) 07:38, 21 August 2015 (EDT)
Please focus and finish up Frank Aquilino. Thanks. --Funkychinaman (talk) 09:02, 21 August 2015 (EDT)
The image needs to be right justified, and you need categories. You should also see if the actor is alive or not, that will affect the categories. --Funkychinaman (talk) 11:27, 21 August 2015 (EDT)
There's no point putting an image on the actor page that doesn't clearly show the actor's face. That's in the Style Guide, and that's just common sense. --Funkychinaman (talk) 13:18, 21 August 2015 (EDT)
Frank Aquilino still needs categories. --Funkychinaman (talk) 12:43, 25 August 2015 (EDT)
It's right there in the Style Guide. "Actor pages should include , and either or . The templates ActorM and ActorF combine the two categories and may also be used. " --Funkychinaman (talk) 16:00, 25 August 2015 (EDT)
I've removed the protection from the Ted Neustadt page. Please complete it now with what you've learned. --Funkychinaman (talk) 16:39, 25 August 2015 (EDT)
Well done. --Funkychinaman (talk) 17:08, 25 August 2015 (EDT)
Maybe it's based on a Series 80? --Funkychinaman (talk) 17:24, 25 August 2015 (EDT)

Actors

Please be more careful when it comes to creating pages. As for spelling, I would suggest copying the name directly out of IMDB. And if you want anything deleted, please add nuke to the top of the page, and an admin will delete it for you. --Funkychinaman (talk) 07:47, 28 August 2015 (EDT)

Tom Vaughan-Lawlor

Please fix the formatting of the page. Please don't list off-site links, they won't display images. Headings are also supposed to be level 2, not level 3. Please also add categories. All these things are covered in the Style Guide. Please take some time to go over it, thanks. --Funkychinaman (talk) 12:54, 28 August 2015 (EDT)

Please correct the heading, and please use the correct template (Actor TV Title rather than Actor Title). --Funkychinaman (talk) 13:56, 28 August 2015 (EDT)

Uploading

Look on the left in the toolbox, you'll see a link for "Upload File". Select the file you want to upload, or drag and drop into the field, and upload. I would suggest editing on a desktop or a laptop. Editing on a phone or a tablet can be a pain. --Funkychinaman (talk) 13:57, 28 August 2015 (EDT)

BTW, this should not be news to you, you've uploaded three images already. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:00, 28 August 2015 (EDT)
I'm referring to the images of the Carpati, the Thompson 1921C, and the screencap from WaW. Those came from elsewhere. See here. --Funkychinaman (talk) 15:47, 28 August 2015 (EDT)

WaW M1911

I saw that you posted it on the WaW discussion page. If no one objects, I suppose you can go ahead. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:23, 1 September 2015 (EDT)

Colt SCAMP

It was deleted by admin Evil Tim. He usually handles game related matters, and I'm assuming he felt that merely having a passing resemblance to the SCAMP wasn't enough. Without any other appearances, the page was no longer eligible for inclusion. --Funkychinaman (talk) 10:28, 9 September 2015 (EDT)

Colt SCAMP

It was deleted because the only appearance is a gun that resembles it but isn't actually a SCAMP. Weapons have to definitely appear in at least one work to get a page. Evil Tim (talk) 10:28, 9 September 2015 (EDT)

Carpati

That's hardly definitive. --Funkychinaman (talk) 12:32, 15 September 2015 (EDT)

All you can see is part of the slide. Why do you think this is definitely a Carpati? --Funkychinaman (talk) 12:54, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
How can a slide be parkerized and chromed at the same time. I don't think you're being very objective here. --Funkychinaman (talk) 13:03, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
You can barely see the frame here. Do you have any better shots? --Funkychinaman (talk) 13:25, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
That is a fair point, be sure to point that out when you make a page. (Make sure it's a complete page). --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:05, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
Complete the media page first. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:26, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
Can you verify the title? I can't find it on IMDB. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:32, 15 September 2015 (EDT)

The Earth's Most Beloved Son

This page still needs a poster or cover art. --Funkychinaman (talk) 07:13, 16 September 2015 (EDT)

In the future, you need to check your spelling and your punctuation before finalizing the page. --Ben41 (talk) 20:25, 16 September 2015 (EDT)
You were just told to check your spelling. Please don't write any more summaries if you don't want to correctly write it. The title also should be Garcea and the Southerns. Please remember this. --Ben41 (talk) 15:10, 17 September 2015 (EDT)

Garcea and the Southerns

I have no idea. The poor image quality is not helping. --Funkychinaman (talk) 11:17, 22 September 2015 (EDT)

I can't even tell if it's bolt action or semi-automatic at this point. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:04, 9 October 2015 (EDT)

File names

As documented in the Style Guide, which we've asked you to review twice now, "Overly generic names should be avoided, (for example, Bond_PPK.jpg, or revolver.jpg) as well as overly technical names (for example, vlcsnap-2012-11-21-16h05m37s240.jpg.)" If you need some time away to review, that can be arranged. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:11, 24 September 2015 (EDT)

Colt New Service

If you're really interested and don't mind spending some money there is a terrific book that is dedicated to the Colt New Service. It is called "Colt's New Service Revolver: A Particularly Strong, Heavy Weapon" by Timothy J. Mullin. You can purchase it through Amazon.com however it is an expensive book. I paid $65.00 (United States dollars) for it, but it's worth the money. It's loaded with amazing photos and provides a lot of information about the New Service and all of it's modifications. I own one of the 45acp New Service revolvers. The 1917 Army model. The cylinder is shorter than the 45 Colt cylinder and will not chamber the 45 Colt. YOu have to shoot 45 acp in it. The dimensions of the 1917 are a little different than the 45 Colt version. It takes a bit of work to modify a 1917 to 45 Colt. It's a bit more involved than just switching the cylinders. Hope that helps. --Jcordell (talk) 18:42, 26 December 2015 (EST)
There is a loss of approximately 15 to 20 feet per second when a 45 acp is fired in a revolver - which is due to the "jump" that the bullet has to make from the casing to the barrel when fired in a revolver. That's why the cylinder in the 45 acp revolver is shorter. The 45 auto pistol is a little more accurate than the 45 acp revolver, but not enough to make all that big of a difference. For many many decades the revolver was a stronger and more reliable design than the pistol. In the past 30 years that has changed and pistols are strong and very reliable. I'm a police officer and I carry the GLOCK 19 (9mm) as my primary. My back-up is the five shot S&W Model 49 Bodyguard (38 Special). If given a choice between a revolver and a pistol as my primary I would choose the pistol as well. I can carry fifty cartridges very easily in three box magazines. Try carrying that many cartridges for a revolver. That is eight speed loaders! Very bulky. Pistols are faster to reload and many people tend to shoot them better. I'm a big revolver guy. I collect them and I enjoy them, but in this day and age the semi-auto pistol is the king. --Jcordell (talk) 22:34, 27 December 2015 (EST)

38 Special

My back-up is intended to be a close range handgun. I have 125 grain +P hollowpoints in my Model 49. For what it's worth I've shot a few old cars and I've seen 124 grain full metal jacket 9mm and 158 grain semi-wadcutter 38 Special rounds go through the windshield and the auto body. of the cars. The 38 Special is a very accurate round and can be effective as a self-defense load. Well designed bullets (hollow points) and bullet placement are important to the loads effectiveness. The 38 Special is not as hard recoiling as the .357 Magnum and many find it easier to shoot and shoot accurately as a result. The same can be said for the 9mm. I like the 9mm and I do shoot it well. My agency has 63 officers and seven of us carry the GLOCK 19. All the other officers carry the GLOCK 21 (45acp). The 45 is a good cartridge and I shoot the G21 effectively, but I don't have large hands and the G21 has a large grip not to mention the G21 is a large pistol. I work a twelve hour shift and the G19 is more comfortable to carry on my belt and I like the fact that I can hold it comfortably. Much about shooting is mental as well as physical and comfort and confidence is important. I feel more confident with the G19.The Smith & Wesson Model 52 only fires full wadcutter loads which aren't very effective for self-defense. The Model 52 is strictly a target pistol and only hold five cartridges. It's a Smith & Wesson and the older Smith & Wesson pistol was a solid piece of engineering whether it was the Model 52, Model 39 or Model 59. Hope this helps. --Jcordell (talk) 15:58, 28 December 2015 (EST)

Please crop the black bars from your screenshots. If you need help, the instructions are in the IMFDB Screencapping Guide. --Funkychinaman (talk) 12:48, 8 January 2016 (EST)

Screenshots Titles

Please follow the rule for screenshots titles: Movie screenshots should include syntax identifying what movie/TV show/game they came from. Such titles as A fistfull of WW2 or Cut! or BankFilm are inappropriate. Please rename these images and don't use such generic names. Greg-Z (talk) 10:35, 14 May 2016 (EDT)

Re:Closer to the Moon

If you are asking about the page, it's a decent work. But the screenshots still have inacceptable names, and that's not good. Greg-Z (talk) 15:26, 14 May 2016 (EDT)

Desert Punk pistol

Hello VLAD M! I compared Type 94 with this gun and it's seems not the similar. So, I don't think, that's Type 94. Pyramid Silent (talk) 16:42, 14 June 2016 (EDT)

What about the Steyr Piper pistols? 50AEDeagle (talk)

Steyr M1908 - .32 ACP

I know.Problem is that the Steyr Pieper has a bottom lockated barrel, like the FN Model 1900.Therefore, I am skeptical.--VLAD M (talk) 10:36, 4 September 2017 (EDT)

Reconstruction

Reconstruction is listed as a documentary on IMDb, so it wouldn't be eligible anyway. Sorry. --Funkychinaman (talk) 09:59, 14 April 2017 (EDT)

I told you it was ineligible, so you go ahead and create it anyway? --Funkychinaman (talk) 19:45, 15 April 2017 (EDT)

Dr. Mabuse, the gambler

I'm not sure but Georg's revolvers make me think about Russian Nagant 1895. If not Nagants, then they are Colt-style rather than S&W as non-supported ejector rods are seen. Sorry, I have no idea about other revolvers but they look different from Georg's ones. Greg-Z (talk) 11:57, 6 September 2017 (EDT)

Russian Nagant 1895, produced 1920s. The rounded front sight is a sign of revolvers produced from 1890s until 1930 - 7.62x38N cartridge (aka 7.62 Nagant ammo).
