1911

Interestingly enough, I talked to my uncle (who is from West Hurley, NY; dunno if you've ever been there) a few weeks before I moved to Texas, and he was telling me excitedly about how he purchased an STI Guardian 1911 last month. If I ever go back there, I might just have to shoot it. Actually, I get the impression he wouldn't let me rest until I do...

Anyway, to answer your question, I must point out that I rarely get to shoot at all, which is mostly a consequence of the fact that I was in college out-of-state for four years, and recently moved to another state to take a job. However, I've never been a huge fan of .45 ACP pistols, which I've simply never handled well. My grandfather gave me a S&W 4506 when I turned 18, and it's really a monster (I haven't shot it in about 4 years now). I've fired only one 1911 which also belonged to my uncle, a Springfield Armory if I recall. Great gun, but still not quite up my alley. Of the .45s I have shot, I would say I liked the P220 SAO best, but even then, not enough to buy. Don't get me wrong; I completely respect the 1911 and appreciate its importance to the development of the semi-auto pistol, but I don't shoot much, and I'm just not big into .45 ACP when I do, even though most American pistol shooters are. Also, I should point out that while I prefer the Taurus PT92 over the Beretta due to the 1911-style frame-mounted controls, I still like the SIG decocker best, which is why I'm currently leaning towards the P226 as a handgun purchase (which won't be anytime soon, since I'm not living in my state of residence right now).

BTW, nice job on improving the 1911 page. It's not perfect (lots of images still not aligned with the guns they're supposed to be with), but it does look a lot less sloppy than it used to. Keep working on those movie pages, too! -MT2008

Depends. If you can get a Tokarev pic, great. I do, of course, have a slight preference for MPM2008's pictures because his are always done professionally, but yours would still be great, too...if you can get it.

Don't worry about corrections. We all make mistakes. If it seems like we pick on you, it's just that you do so much work on this site that it's inevitable you'll have a lot errors, too. I mean, think of the Hard Boiled page...when you've got like 50 guns, how can you NOT get so tired that your eye slips on some of them?

Oh, yeah, and while I appreciate the corrections on my mis-identification of Mossbergs (I suck with those), doesn't the Cruiser have a heat shield as standard? The ones in Training Day and The Departed don't have that, so does that just make them regular pistol-gripped 500s?

New stuff

Ah, great to see someone finally made a page for the Walther MP subguns. We've needed one for a while, and it's been on my to-do list, but I see you beat me to it! I hope you don't mind, but I did re-title the page so that it instead says "Walther MP series", to more accurately describe what it says. Also (this is totally nitpicky), there's no hyphen in the name (i.e. "MP-L" should just be "MPL"), so I did change that, too.

Thanks for uploading a Type 84 picture as well. MPM2008 said he'd do it for me at some point, but he couldn't find the mags for the Type 84s in his company's vault, so he wasn't going to take a picture until he could find them. Yours will do for now, tho. Also, do you think we should give it its own entry in the AK-47 page? I mean, the Type 84 is basically just a Type 56 that fires .223, so I figured it would be best to just include it under the Type 56 entry as a Type 56 variation. Though I guess that would get confusing...

I added it to the AK page in the Norinco section already. And when I found the info for the Walther MP guns, they had hyphens for the L & Ks.

Oh, I know you added the Type 84 already; I'm just question whether it should be grouped with Norinco Type 56. Anyway, didn't you get those pics from World Guns.ru? They don't use the hyphen. Which site did you get your info from?

OK, interesting. Which book is it? It doesn't matter too much, I guess, but everything I've read has no hyphen. I have a Gun Digest Assault Weapons issue from 1986 which reviews the MPK, and that's what they call it, not "MP-K".

"Small Arms From the Civil War to the Present Day" by Martin J. Dougherty made in 2005. He lists them as the MP-L and MP-K. Like you said, it doesn't really matter much.

Your articles

Hi,

You know I really like your articles, but I must make one request: Please try to add pictures of the guns, and also make sure that when you say the gun's name, you link to its page (if you've seen the Heat page recently, you'll notice I edited the guns you added to include pictures and links). I realize it's probably a pain in the ass, especially when you've got a gazillion weapons like your articles for Hollow Point or Last Action Hero, but try to do it when you get around to it. You can always do what I do: Copy and paste the code for the images and links from other pages which use the same gun, especially if the coding is complicated (i.e. getting to a specific MP5 variant). -MT2008

First of all, no page on IMFDB can escape MT2008's obsessive-compulsive editing tendencies! Haha, no, seriously, if you look at many of the pages I've worked on, I'm always editing them from time-to-time as I realize mistakes I've made. Plus, my pages rarely get shotguns or revolvers correct (since modern military weapons and semi-auto pistols are what I know best); I tend to leave them as "unknown" for other users in the future to correct.

As far as profanity goes, I dunno, I'm not one of the admins (come to think of it, I haven't seen any of them for a LONG time now). I'd guess it's OK provided you're just quoting a character (as you do on the Heartbreak Ridge page), but not if you're using it gratuitously, especially in conversation. You'd have to ask someone in charge for the low-down on that.

Current stuff

Just an FYI: Since I see you're working so hard on your Hollow Point page, I guess now's not the time, but...I recall there being an H&K-model rifle (probably an HK91) used by one of the police snipers in The Fugitive.

As far as the grenade launcher in Hollow Point, it does look a lot like the Arwen 37 (Google Image search it and you'll see pics), but I'm not positive. I've seen it before, too...I think in another movie somewhere.

You sure? I watched it twice and saw no HK91 rifle. And I said it was a MK1 Arwen, the oldest model employed, which he stole from a police car, which makes sense for a cop in 1996 to use one. And I've finally finished the Hollow Point page.

I remember it being at the very end, after he's been cleared and Gerard is escorting him out, you see a sniper wandering around with what looks like an HK91 or an SR9 variant. But I haven't seen the movie in years.

You should get a picture of the Arwen launcher for your page. Also, I'm pretty sure that tiny shotgun you see is a Franchi PA3/215 with a forward hand grip. I could be wrong (it's hard to tell from the distance), but I've never seen a Serbu with a folding stock, and I never thought they existed.

Heat

You should replace my screenshot of Trejo's AK's front sight with yours. Mine is from a low-quality AVI rip of the movie.

Also, what's a "P220-1"? I don't think I've ever heard that term used to describe a P220 before. Are you just referring to the fact that it's an older model P220 with a stamped slide and alloy frame?

It's what someone else listed it as earlier before. I assume it is meant to label the oldr model but I too haven't heard the term, I just went along with it. I don't change something unless it looks wrong or I think it is. Leave your username so I can respond back to you.

From what I've been reading, "P220-1" is apparently what some magazines for the gun are marked. I also see that the picture you found on a Google image search is also labeled "P220-1". I don't think it's a factory term (or even a fan-made term) for older-model P220s. I've heard the term "P220 American" to describe the P220s that have the magazine release near the decocker (as opposed to the bottom of the grip, which characterized the early European models) because this was apparently done specifically for the American market. -MT2008

Well, it's a bit more complicated with SIG than with Glock to label things in "Generations". I have certainly heard terms like "Gen 1" and "Gen 2" to describe Glocks (in fact, I often use them in my own articles), but when it comes to SIGs, they've made a zillion little changes to the guns every couple years to refine problems that developed. Like the moves from stamped to milled slides, K-kote and stainless finishes, magazine release changes, standard frames to railed frames (which are now standard on all of the P220-series guns, so they don't use the "R" to describe them anymore), etc, etc, etc. Plus, there were mechanical changes (i.e. redesign of the trigger bar spring) and ergonomic changes (i.e. redesign of the grips). These aren't changes that were introduced in any concrete "generations"; any SIG pistol you pick up might have some of the design changes, but lack others.

So I'm not really sure how each "generation" would be described exactly. In fact, it'd be kind of weird to call the gun in your picture a "Gen 1" because that's technically not true - the very first P220 was the model with the magazine release on the bottom of the grip, which was eventually replaced by what gun rags used to call the "P220 American" (the first model to feature the regular push-button mag release, and the best description for McCauley's gun). Would that make McCauley's gun a Gen 2? I'm not really sure. -MT2008

Oh, I know Glock gens. Those are quite easy in comparison, even though there have been some internal mechanical changes to Glocks as well within generations.

All-metal SIGs are nice guns, IMO. I can definitely say I'd love to own a P226 as soon as I can get my permit application completed (which sucks because in Orange County, NC, I have to get 3 references from other people before I can apply for a pistol purchase permit at the local sheriff's dept. office). It's one of the most ergonomic pistol designs I've ever fired. However, you gotta be careful with what you buy because they've had lots of mechanical issues over the years. I also think they're kind of overpriced for what you get. But...still very nice guns.

Congrats on the new compensator for the 1911. Have fun with that! BTW, nice job on The Rock page. I've been making corrections (as usual, because, you know...that's what I do), but it's cool you got so many high-quality screenshots uploaded.

Defense Technologies

Here is a picture of what the DefTech/Federal Labs launcher looks like:

These have appeared in quite a few films, often portrayed as HE grenade launchers (RoboCop 3 is a good example). Anyway, it could be a C.A.W., but the arms of the folding stock visible in the second pic look kind of like DefTech to me. Hopefully, Al Vrkljan will start posting on this site again soon so that we can ask him!

I'm sorry, but I don't have any pictures of the guns I held years ago. the handguns I held are my Uncle's, he's a retired police officer, and I'm not sure if he'll let me look at them again because you know how some people are about firearms, but I can tell you that the .22 pistol was a very small if that will help. Also, I see you're wondering about language, I'm a moderator myself, and from I see, Bunni, the person who owns the site dosen't seem to mind as long as it is used in a quote or complaint, and not for vandalism. OK, that's what I figured, too, but I wanted to be sure. I did notice that some of the quotes which appear on the Main Page have profanity (like the one from Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels), but it's an issue that's never been addressed at all.

.50 Caliber 1911?

Yes, there is a .50 Caliber 1911. Guncrafter Industries Model No. 1 .50 GI. The bullet is roughly the same dimensions as the .45 ACP, just a little wider. Not the most practical gun, but it's a .50 1911 model.

Also, the Automag V is the .50 caliber version, The Automag III is chambered for .30 Carbine (I actually got to play with one of these, slide is loooooong.) Not to be snide or cocky, you know your material, just saying.

Furthermore, I commend you with your eagle eyes spotting all the famous movieguns we've seen time and time again. Gun guys have to stick together, especially the next generation. Last Action Hero

I remember working peripherally (I helped out on some of the props, but wasn't on the armory staff at the time) on that film. Everyone DURING production was moaning about how dumb it was. And it was pretty dumb. I guess the people (NOT the stars) who work on films can actually tell if a movie is stinker when it's actually being filmed, I remember all of us laughing at the RAMBO III script when we saw it. Anyway, I will look for that pistol, but I'm not making any promises. I sure don't have one and off the top of my head, I don't know anyone who does. But I can ask around.

Also, Just a note, I really think that the MAC-10 in the film is actually MAC-11s (or possibly Cobray M11s, but I can't see how long the receivers are). They're much too small to be MAC-10s. I have average sized hands and MAC-10s are monstrously huge in my hands. Unless those stuntmen are giants, I think those are MAC-11s. Also it's funny that you DID note what I said about TEC-DC9s (being that they were usually seen in films after 1990). Apparently someone was listening. hahahaha. :) But those in the photos of Arnold, are in fact TEC-9s, not TEC-DC9s. they have the sling mount in front so they're TEC-9s. Also I don't remember if they fired full auto in the film, but as far as I know, all the TEC-DC9s in Hollywood inventory are semi auto only. All the full auto ones are legal full auto conversions of TEC-9s. Only Miami Vice and a couple of other shows in the early 1980s used the old InterDynamics KG-99s. But most of the full auto guns you see are TEC-9s.

I own M21s, but they're in pieces. I have to reassemble them, get a cool scope to put on them. Also we have M21s that just came back from Iraq, I can also take some pics of those.

I am getting some shots of some pristine Early 20th century and World War 2 era M1911s and M1911A1s, so be patient. I also am trying to get beauty shots of a lot of the classic handguns. Training Day Revolver

You want evidence, and an argument, you got one. First off, The S&W Model 66 is made of stainless steel, and not carbon steel plated with nickel. Model 19s were originally released with blue or nickel finishes. Second, A snub nosed, round butt Model 19 is a dime a dozen across the states. Here's a picture resembling the one from Training Day.

Look at the picture on the Training Day page, and they look identical, very identical, more so than any Taurus I have seen, or can find on the internet. No it doesn't have the emblem on the side, but that can be sanded off, photoshopped, or just not visible. None of us KNOW what this is, but I do KNOW my argument and my gun makes the most sense, above an Instant Backup, above a lot of things. Thank you for your time.

It's awesome! And I have it in the Main Page "Featured Article" feed, too, so lots of people will get to see the overhaul. I always like it when I see a page that makes me want to watch a movie again, and this one is like that. Those Garand shots make me want to buy the M1 that I saw on sale this weekend (but...saving my $$$$ for the long dreamed-of P226 again).

Anyway, I'll look more later, but must watch Presidential debate now.

I've always loved the way the Garand ejects the stripper clip on the last round. My grandfather's a vet, and he's told me that he used to find it scary. But I find it oddly appealing in a retro-sorta way. If you get to play around with an original GI-issue M1, lucky you.

The Garand photos are really cool. As far as banning anonymous users from editing goes, I dunno. Seems a bit harsh. But at the very least, we really do need to have more moderators on hand.

re: gun pics. I do have those guns but it takes time to do the photos. I am going to get new pics of actual M16A2s, a3s and a4s, sure some look alike but I'll try to get some good detail shots of the receivers if I remember. I went to the vault to take pics of the original m1911s and they're not there. I have to check with other people to see where they were moved.

Dibbs

The only film I would request or challenge dibbs rights on ;) is Rambo III since I (peripherally) worked on Rambo III and I would like to add information not readily available to the general public. I'm sure you know this but Pt. Petuko is carrying an FN model D machine gun, completely the WRONG machine gun to be carrying. Also the leather Thompson Submachine gun magazine pouches aren't American but Yugoslavian Post war (1950s manufacture). Americans had khaki canvas Thompson stick pouches. MPM2008

You changed the section in The Unit from a Ruger MK II to this HDM gun. Are you sure this is the same weapon? The photo you added barely looks like the one in the series.

Reign of Fire

I have no clue as to what that gun is. I don't have any opportunities to talk to John McKenna being that he's exclusively in Europe and I don't even know if he's ever visited the U.S. If you ever figure out what the gun is, I can try to see if anyone has it, but all the .577s I've seen are double rifles and not bolt action rifles. The guy who made The Punisher page is never on anymore, so I would say you can indeed redo it, it needs a revamp. Just promise me you'll break up the additional weapons section on that page, I can't stand when people cram a bunch of different weapons into one section like that, it has nothing to do with things you do like the Armory section on Hard Boiled because you branch out. Hey, I just uploaded some new Dawn of the Dead (2004) screenshots, and I want to know if you can take a look at the custom Remington 870 section of the page, and help me confirm that it is an 870, I'm sure it is, but just want to make sure because MPM2008 says he's going to get a picture of a shotgun in a similar configuration eventually, and he says it appears to have Mossberg style ghost ring sights, and also can Mossberg sights be put on an 870? Ak recog

Interesting Idea on the AK recog page. I will keep it in mind. Right now a lot of the AKs are customized into weird configs but they will eventually be put back to stock version. The only problem right now is that there are tons of post 1999 AK variants (Hungarians, Polish, Romanian, US made, etc.) that I don't have access to. California banned all AK models after Dec 31st 1999, but we could get them with a special permit, but 99.99% of the guys (myself included) didn't bother picking up any of the new AK models since we already had dozens upon dozens of the older 1980s version AKs. Like Sacha Robey's .223 AKs for Casino Royale, many of the foreign movies have access to AKs that are not imported into the U.S. I will look into getting page for the most common AK examples but usually there are the Maadi ARM(MISRS), Poly Tech Legends, Norinco Type 56, Romanian AIMS or Hungarian SA85s. That's about it for most of the AKs I've seen (and usually they are all 'dressed up' to look like other models if necessary). Again, interesting idea and I will start making note of and taking pics of AKs for that page.... MoviePropMaster2008

Jarhead M60E3

The real-life M1 Abrams has never been fitted with any variant of the M60 machine gun, it has always had two M240 machine guns; one mounted in a 'coaxial' configuration parallel to the main 120mm gun, and a second mounted at the Loader's hatch. The Browning M2 heavy machine gun at the Commander's hatch is correct though. If you look at my userpage on here, there's a picture of a real M1A1 in Iraq, the Loader's M240 being clearly visible. Great work on Reign of Fire. Good thing I took a pic of my Ultimax Mk 2 ;) If you want, the next time I do a big shoot at the Class III vault, I'll snap a pic with a stick magazine rather than the drum. We got so many Ultimax Mk2s (at least a half a dozen) and they're aren't often used. I just want to find someone with a Para model to photograph. :) MPM2008

BTW, just so you know, the round you see ejecting out of Harris's 1911 in the film isn't a live round, and it wasn't edited. That's what full-flash motion picture blanks look like after being fired. The extra powder has to be packed into an extension of the brass that might look like an actual projectile. Some guns have to have their ejection ports widened in order to function properly with these, though I don't believe 1911s do. You'd have to ask MPM2008 about this, as I'm sure I'm getting the details partially wrong in some way. -MT2008

It's a bit roughed up externally (which is to be expected, considering it's probably 15 years old), and I'll probably need to re-blue the hammer, but at $450, it was a pretty good deal (gun + three 15-round mags and a replacement short trigger). Plus, in my opinion, the stamped slide SIGs are of better quality than the ones with cheaply-milled American slides that SIG-Sauer produces today.

Most of my extended family (grandparents, cousins, aunt and uncle) are in New York, so I know what you mean about the gun laws there. Although I'm applying for a Master's program at NYU next year, in which case, I'll be in a worse situation. And yes, I do agree with that I'm very concerned about Biden being the VP. Obama may be the most left-wing president we've ever had once he takes office, but I expect him to be far too preoccupied with the economy and the wars (as well as the Russians) to care much about gun control. Biden, on the other hand, could be a very different story. I remember feeling terribly worried when I heard Obama chose him as VP - for precisely the reason you've mentioned! If he tries to push a new AWB through, it will definitely get through Congress, and Obama will sign it into law. I'm actually trying to persuade my dad, who cares very little for assault weapons, to buy an AR15 variant sometime before Obama gets into office. Eh, my dad mostly likes guns for "historical" value, as opposed to guns that are "tacticool", so if you can convince him a gun has historical value, he might get interested in it. That was the argument I used when I was 18 and trying to persuade him to let me buy an AK (which damn near gave my very-liberal mother an aneurism). Once I bought it and he had the chance to shoot it, he did become fascinated with the Kalashnikov, mostly just because he admires their ruggedness and simplicity and the fact that it's been such an important weapon in 20th century combat. But he doesn't seem to have as much enthusiasm for the evil black guns with polymer parts, like ARs or H&Ks.

As far as politics go, no worries. I'm pretty sure most people on this site feel the same way about Biden right now. I know I sure do. It's too bad we got him when we could've had a pro-RKBAer like Palin. Except that Palin's kind of a ditz and I don't really care too much about shit like banning gay marriage or teaching creationism in schools. But still...

BTW, very nice job on the Last Man Standing page! Though I would recommend maybe being a little less exhaustive when it comes to screencaps. I must concur with MT2008, the screen caps are beautiful, but there seem to be too many of the same sequence or gun. No offense intended, but it takes a long time to scroll down the page to see the 'Next' firearm used. When I screencap, I end up discarding all but the most clear shots of the guns. Western guns

I am trying to get pristine examples of a bunch of Western guns. I already have a Nickel SAA with ivory grips and a two tone SAA with rosewood grips and partial brass frame. the Nickel SAA has been in films. FYI

Nearly all blank adapted M16 variants in movies use the old style M16A1 birdcage flashhider. Directors want to the see the 'star pattern' full flash and the A2 style birdcage flashhiders with the solid bottom looks stupid with the high flash blanks. Don't know if you noticed by all of my A2s and (most of the M4s that are already blank adapted) have the A1 style flash hider. Also this is obvious in screengrabs of movies like Cloverfield, where there is obvious flash going downwards (which would not be the case if a real A2 flash hider was used). I will try to get an SP1 with a 30 round mag and an m203 for you. I 'may' be able to score that original weird fake M203 from someone who has one (they were made by Special Effects Unlimited in the late 1970s and aren't like anything commercially available now. Hollowpoint

I've been looking at that Hollowpoint page for a while. I spoke to MT2008 a while ago, and mentioned that we had a bunch of Type 84s in weird configurations and that I was going to restore them. After shooting the one in the classic Type 84 config, I was looking at a stripped barreled receiver and quickly put on some other wood and replaced the standard front site with a type 56 underfolding spike bayonet front end. That barrel's end was milled down anyway (which I don't like but a lot of the military guns were like that). I like threaded barrels so that I can put any flash hider or muzzle brake that I want. I finally got a pic uploaded and now IMFDB is the only site on the entire internet that has the "Hollowpoint rifle" or at least I think. So the short answer is that I made the gun to be identical to the movie gun. Dave Young is a canadian armorer (or at least works 99% of the time in Montreal) and I've seen a lot of weird hybrid guns in the Canadian armorer circles.

the subject of "dibbs"

Don't want to cause controversy, but I am not comfortable with the concept of calling Dibbs on the pages. Since any member or new visitor has the right to make their contributions, it seems like pre=emptively telling new members 'don't touch this page'. Sure you or anyone else can fix someone else's screw ups or replace crappy screen caps with good ones, IMHO it may send the wrong message that there is only the 'elite few' who can touch some pages. Sure, I don't like it when people "fix" the pages that I worked on (especially the ones that were blank before I spent my time fixing it), but I do have the power (as do you) to remove inaccurate or silly input. I have replaced low res or bad screencaps (look at what I did on "The spirit") and it didn't bother me when someone rushed out an redid the "Iron man" page before I could get to it (I Pre-ordered and purchased the DVD just for screengrabbing purposes, but my job got busy, and someone beat me to it and I didn't mind because they did a good job). Anyway, that's my opinion. You do a great job on screencaps (albeit I'm one of those that think there are too many images of the exact same gun on the page, but that's just my opinion. Others like Alienqueen for example, seem to love the many images, so who knows?) Hopefully we can encourage and guide new members to make good screen caps and contributions as well. anyway that's just an opinion. I think we can always see if new members want to try their hand at working on pages. Chances are most won't, so we will end up doing it anyway. But I would prefer the 'perception' that we encourage people of 'good intentions' (versus the idiot vandals) to contribute to the site. Anyway, thats just an opinion. I think this is the most pristine shot of an AK-104 ever on the net! ;) And only IMFDB has it. :) hahaha. The only inaccuracy is that I didn't have the bakelite 7.62 magazines that are correct on this model, so I used a Bulgarian Waffle Pattern Magazine. If you think it's too inaccurate then I will try to find a mag and repost the image.

The only thing really bugging me is the stock. The buttstock is a converted synthetic AK74 (made to fold) but the sling swivel is on the wrong side and the big gap for the scope mount on the stock is not there. I am waiting for a shipment of the real buttstock for the 104. That's a movie gun so it's not a perfect example of the real world AK104. I'll put a note that this is will be rephotographed when I get the correct magazine and buttstock.

FG42 1st pattern rifle - 7.92mm

Well you wouldn't see it in any American weapons catalogue. :) It was issued only to German Paratroopers of Nazi germany. Very few were made and BTW they're full auto guns. Imagine firing a rifle at your shoulder that dumps a 20 round box magazine of full sized 8mm Mauser rounds (!) on another note, I've been trying to get pics of the imperial Japanese guns (like the Type 100 or Type 97 MGs) for a while now. Stembridge used to have tons of them :( you know, I make a note of some of the pages you do, and the ones with lots of details, I make a list to try and get good examples of the guns. I still can't get a stainless 5906. But I'll still keep trying. I like your Hot fuzz page. Usually I try to get the gun to look just like the ones used in the movie (like the AMD-65 I did for the Rambo III page or the "Hollowpoint" Type 84). tropic thunder

I'll try to get you a Colt Sporter II in the exact configuration of Tropic Thunder very soon. It's on my list of things to do (along with redoing all the Colt carbine shots with the new digital camera (some of the older shots were with an old film camera and scanned on a flat bed scanner). Also you're right about the closeness of the blank firing pistol to be dangerous, but it's not that bad. The rule of thumb is 15 feet (but we try to get them to divert the angle so it's off axis and we also warn them that unburnt powder can still hit your eyes.). In the shot with Jack Black, it doesn't look too bad. We've done closer than 15 feet, but we take special precautions. MoviePropMaster2008 21:00, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

The Dark side of movie guns

One of the original Type 56 rifles from the movie "Uncommon Valor" (and no, please Don't post this image on that page, I have access to other rifles from the movie that are in way better shape and I intend to delete this image after a little while). This is what SOME movie guns look like. (Click on the image to see it up close) And no, they're not MY GUNS. I have some guns I need to clean up, but any beaters I try to clean up and keep as good as I can. But I tend to pick and choose the most pristine examples I can find of each movie gun. As you can guess, a lot of the movie guns (not the HERO pieces) are pretty beat up. We have actors and stunt persons dropping them and mishandling them all the time. I MAY have tracked down a custom .577 T-Rex to photograph. Still want it? Since they are usually custom built, some of the minor design details might be slightly different. normally I wouldn't care, but I was looking through a rack of another guy's armory and I asked "what's that gun?" and he quipped, oh a .577..... On some of your pics

Hope you don't mind, on some of your gun pics (the guns I don't have access to just yet) I was going to 'color correct' them and remove some of the excessive 'white space' around them. I was just going to get rid of any 'greenish' or yellow or bluish tints and make the colors more correct and reload them. Workload

hahahaha. Well i got my massive GUNS to photograph to do list ;) I've photographed over 200 guns so far.... It sure doesn't seem like it but I looked at my 'transfered to IMFDB folder' and there are about 207 images that were taken from original photographs. It's a very simple change to block anonymous users from making any edits, how to stop them from just making new pages I haven't quite figured out... My thoughts on Molotov Cocktail

Just so you know, I'm strongly against an improvised weapon like the Molotov Cocktail having it's own page. It's a bottle with gasoline in it. It's not manufactured or crafted, like any of the weapons on the other pages including things like custom swords, bows and knives.

Also no user ever needs to know, "Gee, what was the make of that Molotov Cocktail I saw in that movie?" Since IMFDB is an information resource on stuff that people intuitively would NOT already know, I feel we should not put pages on things that are improvised weapons, like "the Bride" in KILL BILL using a piece of wood with nails in it to kill Gogo Yubari.

Also would you also list the propane tanks used to blow up Zombies in DAWN OF THE DEAD as a weapon as well? They had a road flare in them so they were 'modified' like a molotov cocktail.

Since you made it and put effort into it, I won't complain any more, but I thought you must realize how I feel towards improvised weapons. I lump them in the same category as a crowbar (weapon used in Half life), a rock, a stick or a brick. Sure Video games use them as weapons, but they don't deserve the page that a known firearm or munition does since no one will ever wonder what country they came from, who made them, what their history or caliber is, or what version or variation is being used. Yeah, I use .pngs in place of traditional .jepgs. They take a while to load, but they're a lot clearer and less pixelated, and with the low res 90s movies I build pages for, I need all the clarity I can get.

This is NOT the Korean war Movie of the same name, but a Flash animated short that lasts less than 60 seconds, created by an (albeit talented) fan. WTF. Though the short is quite cool, it's weird and stylized animation of round headed figures duking it out for about a minute. does it count if it's only public release is a website? I think people are pushing the boundaries of what is a legitimate title here.

Someone has to draw the line. This guy Don whatever. He just posted a NEW flash animation on this site. What the hell? I've see the pics or trash that resembles pictures of guns and he thinks those are what they are? Is he high or some punk kid that thinks it's so cool that it deserves to be on this site. Hey, anime deserves to be on this site just as much as games. Most of them were drawn from concept to the us watching them, down to the very details. Gunslinger girls, Ghost in the Shell, Black Lagoon. The artists of those series took their time and effort to make then guns that appear to be as authentic as possible when they can and that in itself deserves respect in a site like this dedicate to cataloging guns from movies and shows we've seen. Anime that do draw the guns so realistic deserves to be on the same respect level as we respect the armorers for the movies and shows. Anime is a real work of art. These flash animations are just attempts at art and failing, only providing us with cheap and a lot of time free entertainment.

HK94 converted into a full auto gun with chopped barrel - 9mm

I will review it in detail later re the length or the trivia, but at a glance it looks very interesting :) . But I did make a note to myself take pics of the Colt Sporters used in the film. I got those configurations. You were right in that the slab side is just a Colt Sporter Carbine with the barrel chopped down. The "Commando" with the forward assist is the Colt Sporter II, again converted. I also have to replace some of my M16 pics since they are 'custom' guns that aren't indicative of the 'classic' models (like the 733, etc.)

BTW: I replaced the USP45 amongst other guns. I am also working on new FNC pics. The problem is that there are multiple versions of the FNC. The ones imported into the U.S. were the (a) FNC 223 Rem Sporter (the semi auto import version with a bayonet lug and thin sling ring), (b) the later model FNC 223 Rem Sporter with NO bayonet lug and thicker forward sling ring, (c) the FNC Para Sporter. Then there is the real deal, the Belgian full auto FNC Early model and the FNC Para model. And now there is a newer model FNC rifle with some design changes and the newer model FNC Para rifle. More modern movies filmed overseas would have the all Belgian guns. American movies would have the U.S. Imported variants. I'm trying to get pics of each type.

Screencaps on Commando

I know you like pages with tons and tons and tons of screencaps (so does Alienqueen, I think). And I've made it obvious in the past that I really don't like having so many screencaps on a page. I think it makes the page massive and unwieldy and hard to look at. But that's my opinion and my taste. I prefer to have no more than four images on a page. Recently some member added TONS of pics to my Dogs of War page. Way TOO many images and I think it made the page look clumsy. But I would appreciate NOT adding tons of new screencaps to pages that I essentially built up myself, just like I wouldn't delete any of the photos for the pages that you did from scratch. It's just a matter of taste, I know, but I don't like having a lot of pics of the same gun over and over again. I think it belabors the point and (especially for members with slower internet connections) it slows down the viewing of the page. (case in point, I thought that having over fourteen screenshots of Bruce willis and his M1911 in Last Man Standing was just too much, but that was your page and I'm not prone to criticize based on my "page layout" sensibilities. Eh, depends. Main question is, how many additional screencaps do you want to add? I really would prefer you not add a ridiculous amount of extra screencaps, like 20 shots per gun, the way you've been doing on some of your pages. I think it's been getting a little bit out of control lately, so if you want to work more on that page, I'd rather you limit yourself to something like 6 shots per gun at most. Especially since the Lord of War page is one of the site's most popular.

I see that I'm not the only one who isn't fond of too many shots of the same gun on a page. It makes the page way too big and unwieldy. I certainly don't love endlessly scrolling down just to see what the NEXT gun entry is. I don't mean to diminish the hard work done, but there is a limit to how many screenshots should be on a gun's section of the page. You've been doing a LOT better in reigning in the sheer number of screencaps. I must give fair warning any additional screenshots on pages that I've done 99% of the work on, I reserve the right to start editing out images if I think there are too many of them. Anyway, other than that issue, you've done tons of great work. I was thinking of requesting that members start taking a second look at orphaned pages, i.e. pages with no screenshots at all before we start adding tons of new pages. Question About Bond Actor Category

I was wondering, in the "James Bond Actor" category page, should we limit it to actors who've played James Bond himself, or should we allow 'supporting' actors such as Bond girls (ie, Halle Berry & Honor Blackman) and villians (such as Robert Carlyle & Gert Fröbe)? To answer your question about the gun used in the "Leave the gun..." scene, I tried to see what it was when I was screencapping it a few nights ago but I believe the shot was too far away to capture one. Yes, I was actually in DC for Obama's inauguration, as I told MPM in a brief post to his wall. And no, I am not at all a fan of our new President, and less so the VP. But my Mom (who is a liberal) was really excited and wanted me to come, and you know...I couldn't hurt Mom's feelings. Plus, my boss at the law firm where I work (also one of my Mom's friends) was able to book me at a really nice hotel (the Sofitel, where Edward Norton and Dennis Hopper also stayed), and I got two days off from work, and I got to hang out in DC for the first time in over 10 years. So, regardless of how I feel about our country swearing in its most left-wing President ever, the trip was still worthwhile.

Thanks, I'd always been a big fan of The Getaway (1972) so I decided to start re-screencapping it. I could do a few more but I wasn't sure on the protocol on replacing another user's images. (Also, thanks for adding the year; I have a DVD of the 1994 version coming in the mail so I'll be screencapping that as well. I hear it's not quite as up to par as the other but any movie is worth an article here). And yeah, I should probably add some info. Nice photos but the ones that are listed as M1917 on aircraft are not correct. The Machine gun on the Folker EIII is a Maxim LMG08/15 Air Cooled machine gun built by Spandau. The LMG in LMG08/15 stands for Luft Maschinen Gewehr or Air Machine Gun in english.

Nice job on Mail Call. When you get to the episode on the Colt Potato Digger machine gun I have some info on that. Also I will see if I can scan my challenge coin that R. Lee gave me for the site.

The Untouchables

Photo of Nickel pistol held by Kevin Costner and Billy Drago is a Star Model B. The show also had some Colt Official Police .38 revolvers and a Welbey in .455 caliber used by the RCMP.

XXX

Thats a M61 Vulcan mounted under the chopper. The special features in the film has it wrong. There are only two Vulcans in the industry at this time. They have been converted to blank fire and used in Armageddon, XXX and Death Race. I have hadled they and see them and the helicopter mount about once a week. Look at the size of the weapon mounted to the copper and minigun. The gun under the chopper is twice as long as the minigun. Also compare the photo from XXX to the gunship from We Were Soldiers that we had two miniguns mount on.

Video Games

Armorers work on video games consist of four parts. Part one is foley work sound department records every noise the weapons action makes without firing. Part two is live firing the weapon at private range with eight to ten mics surrounding the shooter and several more located down range. Part Three is have each weapon photographed and film in the firing position for the digital modeling. Part Four is firing at items with a suppressed weapon to record impacts for the game. To most people this would sound like a lot of fun but it has to be one of the most stressful events for a armorer since there is no breaks other than to change weapons. Most of the time games have about 20 to 30 different weapons in them and all this is done between one and three days. The shooter can not move, breath or make any noise while firing as the mics will pick it up.

Iron Man CAR15

In the photo with the line of rifles it states it has a commercial CAR15 flash hider. I really it is an M4 carbine with a Surefire suppressor flash hider BFA. I built those BFA's for that show. Phoenixent

I went back and checked to see if our M60's were of the E1 configuration. We had 18 on We Were Soldiers and they were all standard M60's. Then I checked out a sight that had a photo of the M60E1 and that is completely different system. I have a question about the M1-C Garand and M1-D Garand, do you load them like you would the M1 Garand? and does the En Bloc clip pop out of them too after the last round is fired? Usable pic?

I was tempted to reshoot this on a pintle mount so that I can get closer to the gun. Let me know if this format is preferable. I am still tempted to reshoot some of the Aircraft guns much closer so that we see more of the gun and less of the mount. I had to shoot it in the warehouse and digitally wipe out everything else with white (what a pain!) since I was alone and this sucker was TOO heavy to lift by myself! ;)

Good thing you mentioned the Winchester 1866 with the forearm and without, or else I would have forgotten about it. Again, don't know if the guys with these weapons even want to take the time to let me snap some pro photos, but it doesn't hurt to ask. As for the M60, I got one myself and are looking at it right now, but it's fubared, i.e. the plastic trigger group got cracked and I did a patch job on the rear end (and haven't bothered to fully fix it. Also it's REALLY beat up and I am still looking for one in decent shape. Here is a cropped snap shot of it taken some years ago on a movie set. One of the young actors was holding it near the crafts services table and I took a snapshot. here it is. But I will try to fix it up prior to IMFDB photography ;)

Actually, I only have the regular Unrated DVD. Mine doesn't seem to come with a whole lot of special features besides Deleted Scenes. If you want to add the screencaps of the armorer showing off the guns, that's fine by me. Also, I think I'm going to keep some of the publicity stills. This is the screen used SIG P220R used by Bruce Willis in the movie Live Free and Die Hard. This one is Bruce Willis's actual pistol in the movie (and was carried by him and fired by him)

Nickel plated STAR Model B - 9mm pistol from the movie Pulp Fiction. This one is Samuel L. Jackson's actual pistol in the movie (and was carried by him)

Blued STAR Model B - 9mm pistol from the movie The Untouchables (1987). This one is a screen used and fired handgun in the movie and was used by Kevin Costner on screen. Normally on generic guns I retouch out big scratches on the finish, but this is an original piece used in the film and the scratches are what identify it as authentic to people who know what Costner was firing.

Vincent's Smith & Wesson 5906 from Collateral - 9mm. This is a screen used gun. Note the late model 5906 pistols have the rounded trigger guard.

Early Model Smith & Wesson 5906 - 9mm. The early model 5906 pistols had the finger step trigger guard, but they changed it to the rounded trigger guard for 'ease of production'.

Late Model Smith & Wesson 5904 - 9mm. The early model 5904 pistols had the finger step trigger guard, but S&W changed it to the rounded trigger guard for 'ease of production'.

These others were also screen used, but I need to recheck and verify what. BTW, I do 'scramble' the serial numbers (in Photoshop) when they are visible so that nosy people can't track down the original SN for the movie gun. I have TONS more pics, but I don't want to sit here all night. I see what you are talking about with the none instead of left. I was just think about when you have multiple photos of the same weapon to put them next to each other to same some space. It looks great! Nice job! Too bad I didn't get the proper version, but I only spent $7 for this movie (used) at Half-Price Books. I don't think I would have wanted to spend more than that. Anyway, it does seem like this weapons coordinator was kind of a douche. I imagine armorers in Bulgaria aren't really held to the same standards as their American counter-parts.

Oh, yeah, and I think there may be one other weapon type in the film I missed (besides the myriad assortment of handguns on the table at Udre's place which I would never be able to figure out. shotgun in Thunderball

In other words, "SIG" is an acronym, while "Sauer" is not, so it's appropriate to capitalize all letters of "SIG". However, if you open that can of worms, just remember that in all fairness, I or other users could also replace any of your screengrabs on any page you built when we please as well. Norinco SKS Sporter

Rosario Dawson doesn't have an SKS-D. She has a Norinco SKS Sporter which has the thumbhole stock and the shorter paratrooper barrel. the SKS-M is nearly identical but the ones marked "Sporter" have a slightly different thumbhole design (and which model she has exactly is hard to see because her hand is in the buttstock nearly all the time), but both the SKS-M and the "Norinco SKS Sporter" are thumbhole, paratrooper length barreled SKS designed to take factory AK mags, like the D model. The D Model is a standard full length SKS that takes AK mags. Frankly, I've never seen these in any real foreign warzone. Only at gunshows in the U.S. But the SKS-D was used by Chinese police alot in the 1980s and 1990s.

Blank revolvers

Don't know what you mean about the primers, but we don't adapt any revolvers to fire blanks. No need to. I have never had a problem with primers unless the loading process was messed up or the blanks were bad. Also recoil (too much or not enough) should have no effect on the primers. So I have fired hundreds of different revolvers with literally thousands of blanks (everything from .45 LC - .38 sp - 44 mag - .357 mag - .38 short - etc. etc. ) and never ran into any difficulty. What type of blanks were you firing? MPM

BTW, spectacular job on filling out the rest of the Rundown. Though (as expected per MY personal tastes) there are more screencaps than I would have done per gun, you really scoured that movie for every single solitary firearm in it. Legends of the Fall

I corrected your discription of the weapons that Brad Pitt is carrying over his shoulder. The weapon is a Holland and Holland 10ga. Paradox used to hunt big game with 10 gauge slug. The barrels are smoth bores except for the final 2 inches before the muzzle were they are rifled. It is a rare weapon as most of which have been destroyed due over pressure from the unique design. I built the buttplate for that weapon as the wanted a brass buttplate on it. The weapon came form Ellis Mercantile- Phoenixent

I will check my old photo from Ellis to see if I have one. Holland and Holland were going to reissue the Paradox with different material for the barrels and new style rifling. The bullets were cast in the prop shop at Ellis using a pattern I made on the lathe and glued into original brass 10ga shells.

Street Kings

Hey,

I was just wondering if you'd be OK letting me add a few more shots to the Street Kings page. And I literally just mean a few:

(1.) Two more shots (good ones) of Tom Ludlow with his S&W 4506.
(2.) A better shot of Diskant with his Glock 17 when he and Tom go to the house where the real Fremont and Coates are buried.
(3.) A shot of the fake Fremont reaching for his own Glock (which looks to be another -17) when Tom kills him during the climactic shootout.

Would that be OK?

Also, I watched the scene again where Tom kills the Koreans, and as best I can tell, the S&W 4506's muzzle flashes are not digitally added. The gun cycles and ejects spent blanks, just as I would expect. --MT2008 18:10, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Tried to make it a little bit darker, but weirdly, I can't do it without really ruining the detail. Are you sure it matters if mine are a bit lighter? In daylight scenes, it's pretty hard to tell.

The Colt 1878 Shotgun you have listed for the show is incorrect. The shotgun is a 10 gauge supplied by Ellis Mercantile for the film. Dust hit gun

It's called a Sweeney gun and I have used it. The best features of that gun are the constant air feed and the variable full auto fire mode. The Dust balls are basically clear transparent paint ball containers that are full of 'Fuller's earth'. I don't use the Sweeney gun. It's basically a really EXPENSIVE paintball gun. I opt to use a standard paintball gun myself and shoot much closer to the action, but don't tell anyone that. It's way cheaper. Also those dust balls are really expensive. (think about 2$ a shot) As are the "Sparking" balls. Special effects houses also make full glass balls (these are all the same size as paintballs) which are designed to shatter windows and then the glass balls shatter themselves, thus 'masking' the source of the shatter (good for people's houses that you don't like) and metallic balls which blow out Car windows. Review on Wanted

You asked me a long time ago to review your WANTED page, and I deferred, primarily because I glanced at it briefly and saw that it might have spoilers. Now that I have seen the film I went back to the page. You did a lot of hard work and it shows. Also I was a bit horrified at the sheer amount of spoilers in the page. I would never DELETE a photo of yours on a page you built, since that seems to be an unwritten rule. I WILL delete unnecessary photos on pages that I built. I am probably going to delete all pics of Kenneth Johnson from my Rambo page ... this guy was just the head propmaster. He wasn't the armorer and this guy doesn't know anything about guns. All the armorers I know are disgusted and he (being the glory hound that he is) insisted on doing the DVD Featurette commentary on guns. the real armorers aren't even mentioned, which disgusted me. Anyway, back to topic, I would request that you remove the pics of Cross dying in that it is a major spoiler. I fixed some of the written spoilers in that I think that the page doesn't suffer if we don't know the plot twists. Like revealing that Darth Vader is Luke's father, some of these points aren't necessary. I was actually really glad I avoided the page previously since I was actually surprised at the betrayal and truth. I was surprised who Cross really was and what his motivation was. I was surprised at Fox's true test of faith and sacrifice and I was happy at the comeuppance of Sloan (the decoy surprised me completely). The entire movie experience would have been ruined if I had all those plot twists spoiled for me. For people looking up the guns (who have seen the film already), the non-spoiler explanations are good enough and clearly show what guns were in the film. Anyway, that was my input and opinion. watermark

excellent work on the watermark. It is a very attractive watermark. I tried a watermark already, once, and I didn't like how it looked in thumbnails. Who knows, I might start to like it in the future, but right now, I DO have hidden electronic tags in all my files (which a savvy tech person can remove, but it takes a level of skill that most pirates don't bother to develop). But I like the idea of the watermark for images I approve to be ALLOWED on other sites, like Wikipedia. As for IMFDB, I am content to (a) initially mark the files as copyrighted to IMFDB and also (b) have the invisible eletronic tags on the files themselves that outline ownership and license. Many high end programs can read this. the latest versions of Photoshop can read the electronic copyright on a file. Saturday Shoot --- more pics coming --- just a heads up

Group message cc:d' to MT2008, GM45, Alienqueen1 I'm heading to another armory to photograph some more long guns this Saturday if all goes as planned. (I'll get a new StG-44 amongst other cool stuff (like a SR-25, all tricked out, etc.) I've been photographing a lot of pistols recently. Since the last group of famous gun pics took an entire day to photograph and multiple days to 'clean up and format' (and put electronic Copyright tagging) on the images. I am also returning to Stembridge/CW to photograph a bunch of their more famous subguns/shortshotguns. I already have permission to photograph the actual McMillan TAC-50 used in S.W.A.T. As far as my own inventory, I still have to rebuild and fix some of MY guns still. I still have an M249 full stock gun that I need to photograph and a Walther MPL that needs fixing. And a bunch of Benelli M3 Super 90s in different configurations :) I want to work some more on the M16 page. If I can't get a real 733 (for example) I will try to build up an exact duplicate of one in the right configuration and then take a pic of it. Some of my older photos of M16 guns (like the 733) were build ups (i.e. just a standard gun with the barrel cut down, and not the exact configuration of the original gun type). I want exact examples of each one so that our M16 page is the definitive page of M16 types on the net. BTW: I have to go down to CW again and I will try to grab more "the Quick and the Dead" guns ... :) More handguns, especially Sharon Stone's SAA and Russell Crowe's gun (and original holster) and all the original screen used guns from 'Iron Man'. ;) I am also trying to get a ton of more famous screen used western guns for GM45's pages. re: Boondock Saints

Dude, armory scenes in movies always suck to do on IMFDB. And the one in "Boondock Saints" is probably one of the worst, even worse than Hard Boiled or The Matrix. I have an AVI rip of that movie on my external HD, and I don't think I've even managed to ID everything in that scene yet myself. I know you've already one-upped me if you saw the M79, because I don't recall that one and I've only seen the movie like, oh, 50 times. (Trust me when I say that if you ever go to college in the Northeast, especially a college where the student body is mostly of Irish descent, you will be watching that movie on an extremely regular basis, not even by choice necessarily.) But, it sounds like you're working hard, so I applaud you for that.

As far as movies I plan to do, I'm trying to decide what to rent on iTunes right now that I haven't seen in a while (or not at all). I want to watch something tonight because I know I won't have time tomorrow (I'll be going to Houston and not getting back home until Sunday morning). Hey I was just watching The Boondock Saints and noticed a gun you didn't include. I'm watching a full-screen version sadly, but at roughly 00:18:51 movie time (This is when Agent Smecker is in the police station and the MacManus brothers turn themselves in) There's a shot where you get a very clear view of a revolver in a shoulder holster on Detective Greenly. Titles starting with 'The' ....

I am willing to start mass changing titles that start with "The" to the standard nomenclature (used by IMDB) (i.e. instead of "The Shining" (yeah I know we don't have that movie ...) it would be "Shining, The". I can't count how many people have complained to me (in person, not on the net) about that.

I have some famous armorers complaining about that ;) SO I am willing to start changing them myself. Any complaints? Seriously, if any of you are seriously offended by that, I will change them back.... no charge ;) But the last straw was some blog making fun of us because of that. :( So I am going to start changing the titles. Just wanted to give a heads up....

(edit: I've done nine titles as a test. So far, I like them, but I think MT2008 had a cool technique regarding re-directs which would allow the main page to have the fixed titles, but when you click on it, it goes to the original named page. Let me know what you think) :)

Update on the new gun pics.... I started the new photo shoot on Say, but had to cut it short. Will reschedule and complete my massive new gun shoot either tomorrow or the next day. Title change

Well we all can disagree on somethings, I've always hated how our listing alphabetized on "the" as a "T". I think that's just stupid, since nearly everyone ignores "The" when looking for a title. Libraries do it, Video stores do it and I get pissed when I look for "The Dark Knight" but instinctively look in the 'D' section and see nothing. I've hated it since I joined the site, but also recently I've shown this site to famous armorers, and when their first comment is "great site, but sorting by "the", that's stupid" was the motivation I had to get off my ass and fix it. Heck, Mike Papac hated it. So I will still change the titles. I think you will find it easier to find movie pages as well. Thanks for your understanding. Hey John Since you are a Western Fan did you see this movie yet? When you do the page let me know as I built the 8 gauge for it and have photos for you. Also I got the okay to photograph the 10 gauge shotgun from Unforgiven will have them for you next week. The manufacturer of the shotgun is W. Richards originally owned by Ellis Mercantile and sold in 1999.

No problem John on the Win 97. Great job on the westerns as for the Lonesome Dove Series thats a lot of ground. I worked on the guns for the prequel and Streets of Laredo. Matrix

Sorry. Didn't mean to slam Matrix pics so much. But I did notice the image size versus the file size and it was kinda low resolution. They didn't look bad, but remember when some of your screencaps were so awesome that I actually thought you had bought a Blu-ray machine! :) I uploaded some pics very similar to your screencaps for comparison. Maybe Matrix is a fuzzy movie (A Bridge Too Far was maddening since it seemed like the entire movie was filmed through a layer of gauze) I did notice that the Matrix shots are still a little 'squished'. Maybe its an optical illusion, but maybe they look fuzzier because they aren't as bright. For some reason, my screencapping software has bright output and (IMHO) a little sharper image. Let me know what you think. But I know you can do it since I've seen your bright screencaps before. :)

FYI I am not for making any more people Admins until they've been on the site for a longer time. I'm not being weird about it, but we're seeing a lot of good contributors and unfortunately a lot of 'energetic but wrong' contributors. I want to give ALL new members a probation period to see how they work out. You might get a kick out of this

Would YOU want a handgun collection like this? The pistols on the right side belong to Syd Stembridge (he still has some stuff), and the back wall and left wall belong to Mike Papac. (And yes, the boxes on the ground are full, there is no room on the walls left. All the empty slots are for handguns that are either out for repair or out on rental. My own handgun inventory is less than half of theirs, so I'm a small fry compared to these guys. But I thought you'd get a kick out of this pic. A similar pic has been seen in articles in the past about Stembridge Gun Rentals, so it's nice to see that this room still exists, though I need a bigger wide angle lens, I can't get back far enough to even get a fraction of the room. It is massive.

Colt 25?

I'm asking you since you know a lot about older firearms. Isn't the Colt 25 as listed on IMFDB the same as the Colt Model 1908 Vest pocket? I think it's the same gun, but I wanted independent verification. I ask because I hate it when I shoot a custom pic for IMFDB (so as not to violate anyone's copyright) and other members STILL upload 'jacked' images off of Google of the SAME GUN, undoing the point of getting licensed images for IMFDB (versus violating someone else's copyright). Anyway I wanted to make sure that these were the same pistol. Thanks for your expertise. Imagine if you will.......

Walking down a hallway in a warehouse, from floor to ceiling are wooden cubbyholes, in these cubby holes are jammed multiple items which comprise three specific things (either submachine gun, select fire pistol, or short barreled shotgun). I am not sure how these items are sorted but I don't care, I like it! I LOVE poking around places like this. It make me happy :) I also see some items which I will try to photograph for IMFDB in the future (recognizing some of the stuff that I have on my list to take pics of for some of the specific movie pages). I just needed to cheer myself up after hearing daily news from the new administration! Just thought I'd share it! :)

Hey John, I know when you are completely done with a page some of the Mod's lock them out. I figure that way no one can mess with their Pet. But why lock out the actors pages associated with that show? The actors associated with The Wild Geese can not be accessed to add information and other shows since they worked more than one show. 1911's and other models.

Thanks for your message. Very nice. Don't worry about how some cops might think you're a smart ass. We all tend to be that way when it comes to teenagers.Teenagers and cops are like oil and water. But usually once we see that you're on the level we tend to change our tone.Take me for example. I'm an old cop. At 41 I tend to come across as an old grouchy fart to kids, but I do warm up.

I grew up in a 1911 household. My father was also a cop as well as a Vietnam veteran. Though he carried the S&W Model 28 and later the S&W Model 65 as his sidearms he was (is) all about 1911's. At one point he owned seven of them. He's now down to a 1911A1, Colt Commander and a Colt Officers Model.

Even though I appreciate what John Browning accomplished with the 1911, and aknowledge it's strengths (i.e. it's excellent grip), I've just never taken a liking to it. When it comes to autos I prefer the "classic" Sig design, Glock and Beretta. I'm also fond of the Browning Hi-Power so Mr. Browning's pistol designs do have some influence with me.

However I'm a big fan of revolvers. I own many many wheelguns. Smith & Wessons make up the bulk of my collection, but there are a couple Colts and a Webley Mk VI - which is my pride and joy.

I've been a gun-nut almost all of my life so you are not unusual at your age. I'm a firearms instructor at my department as well. Combine my interest of firearms with my love of movies and many of my fellow officers look at me like I'm some type of whacko. But whne they have a question about guns, movies or need help improving their pistol score guess who they come looking for?

The lever action rifle dosen't deliver the same type of accuracy as a bolt action. But it's fast and easy for lefties (like me) to use with ease. Plus there is the historical signifance.

Winchester Model 1895

I live in Idaho. Last summer Imade it down to Provo, Utah and went to the Browning museum. Also went and saw the old Browning shop. I mentioned that I don't really care for the 1911. But I do enjoy the Hi-Power and I'm a big fan of the Winchester 1895. I own one in 30-06. One of the new ones made back in 1996. I also own an 1897 riot-gun which I'm fond of. So I understand your fondess of Browning guns. Take care. Keep on working.

Colt Mustang

The Colt Mustang (a .380 pistol) is on the M1911 page. I don't think it belongs there. All those other models are in .45 acp (or they have other calibers as well as 45 ACP), but essentially they are .45 guns. I was going to pull the Colt mustang and create a page for the Mustang/Pony since they are both subcompact Colt guns in .380. What do you think? MPM20008

S&W MkII Hand Ejector

Hey John, I think this and the S&W M1917 has the same info they both the same N frames different calibers. Maybe they should be combined into a S&W Pre-War N Frame or the M1917 info transferred to the S&W MkII Hand Ejector. The same goes for the Colt M1917 as it is a Colt New Service in .45 ACP. CSI: Miami S&W Semi-Auto ID

I don't think the pistol shown on CSI: Miami is a S&W 5946. If you look at the screenshot versus the photo on the gun's page, you can see the gun in the screenshot has a decocker safety on the right side of the slide while the one in the photo does not. Hey John, Just to give you a heads up the Llama used In The Line of Fire is a Llama IIIA in .380 caliber. The weapons on the show were supplied by Ellis Mercantile. Hey John, I edited one of MPM's photo hope he doesn't mind to much but his photos are awesome. I worked on get those rifles ready for We Were Soldiers a couple of month prior to filming. It's amazing the research we did on all the weapons from that battle reconfigured our XM16E1 back to 1965. We even built the correct AK's for Vietnam since everyone else always used stamped receiverd AK. When the show was done everyone though we were wrong until you look and the combat photos and we were correct. Most critics completely missed that we only had two of the correct model Huey's. Steve

Taking no more gun pics

apparently it is becoming more acceptable for others to create 'frankengun' photoshop jobs out of my original pics and not even give credit. (for the record, YOU ALWAYS gave me credit and it was appreciated. Besides, I always ended up photographing the real deal as a result). Heck. I would give credit to the previously Google jacked shots that I clean up with recropping, or color correcting if I knew who the original photographer was. But that's a minor point. My intent all along was to replace all jacked images with official licensed images. It's a lot of hard work and only a very few (like you) even seem to appreciate it. (plus you're way more tolerant of the inevitable flood of conflicting page styles and info from new (and some anonymous) users ... inevitable as the site gets more recognition). I'm on hiatus for taking pics of guns for a bit. Working hard for IMFDB should be enjoyable, not irritating. :( A break is good thing. MPM

M4 vs. M4A1

The original M4 did NOT have a removable carry handle, it had a fixed one with 3-round burst. The original M4 was pretty much an M16A2's upper & lower recievers with a telescoping stock and 14.5" barrel with cuts for mounting the M203 ahead of the front sight assembly. The very earliest Type 56s, which were made 1956-1963, were built with milled receivers. The Poly Tech Legend is something completely different - it's a semi-auto copy of the original AK-47 designed for the civilian market in the 1980s. It looks almost identical to the original Russian AK-47 (visually, they're pretty much impossible to tell apart) and does not have the full-circle front sight of the Type 56. It was appreciated. Well I am back from a pretty tough assignment (over a week of 14 hour days and nothing but grief) Actually I didn't know WHO did WHAT on the so called franken guns. I was not really paying attention for months to the M16 page and only concentrated on the AP74 22 clones at the bottom. I didn't even know that some guy (Kin93) out of Hong Kong had made so many franken guns out of my pics. But after a really BAD week (which I will go into on a general note later) I scanned up on the M16 page and saw literally a bunch of Franken M16 pics. I thought "WTF?!!" It wasn't so bad, in just it was just the topper of a really bad week (where someone in the real world took a custom shotgun I built, replaced the buttstock, and then showed it off to various art directors as a gun 'HE' built even though I did 99.99% of the work). So it was kinda just the straw that bent (not broke! :) ) the Camel's back for that time. I KNEW I had to take a break, and I sure felt better when I put a stop to the 'picture requests'. like a weight was taken off my back. (Also I was getting a little TOO wound up over the wave of new anonymous/newbie users whose gun knowledge is only airsoft/Video Games making wrong edits on all the pages. It was bound to happen and is the risk we all take on an open wiki page. Anyway THANKS for the note. AMT Pistols page

Awesome work on the AMT page. It's been needed. Have you been talking to Rockwolf? Anyway, it's been sorely needed, but this was the best compromise possible since these guns were 'automags' in name only. Unfortunately there are VERY few of these types of guns in movie weapons rental inventory. No one ever wanted them. MPM2008

Only the original AMC guns were written "Auto Mag". When Arcadia Machine & Tool Company 'ripped off' the Auto Mag mystique they avoided copyright infringement by writing their guns as 'AUTOMAG". Get it? only one word. "No your honor. We're not licensed to make Auto Mags. That name belongs to the remnants of the AMC company. Our gun is called the Automag! Completely different!" That would make sense, since changing the name to one word rather than two words was the way AMT tried to legally differentiate themselves from AMC. Thanks. I screencapped ALL of the Indy films but I have to resize them and fix them for uploading. I sure hope no one starts doing it before I'm done. But I would argue its a lot easier to hold an absolutely 'neutral' attitude when one has no 'dog in the fight' per se. Having served some time in service I have such a disdain for that work that I must admit I get really angry when I see it. Perhaps in years to come, like the people who suffered on 9/11 may be able to stomach "watching a movie where Americans are the bad guys and the hijackers are the heroes", I may be able to stomach trash like DePalma's piece of crap. There are tons of more worthy films that have not been listed yet. We are so far away from being the all encompassing film database like IMDB that if we get closer to listing EVERYTHING, then we would be obligated to list even the most despicable listings. I would argue that it is controversial right now (perhaps not so much later on), but there is little upside to keeping it. Again thanks for your honest discourse. Always a pleasure. MPM2008

You're right about the model used by Tyne Daley in The Enforcer. It does look like a Python snubbie, but I still think Felton Perry is using a Colt Diamondback in Magnum Force. It looks like it has a smaller frame which would match the Diamondback. Jcordell

Thanks. I work hard on the Screenshots to make them look better. And as you've pointed out, I like bad cinema and tv. re: Model 36 pic. I don't want it to seem that I was in any way yelling at you when I reverted that image. That picture bothers me now. It was a project gun of a gunsmith and I checked the frame and it was definitely marked 36-2 (I take detailed notes when I take photographs of guns) and I'm no Smith & wesson expert, but the details LOOK like the more modern revolvers. Should I delete the image? The front sight and cylinder latch 'could' have been updated with newer parts. I hate having pics like this which 'could' be custom and not indicative of a standard model. Diamondback or Python

Hey, I know you just finished re-vamping The Enforcer, so I figure you'd be able to help. I'm not so sure that Insp. Moore is using a Colt Python. It's possible, but it looks more like the Diamondback that Insp. Perry used in the previous movie, Magnum Force. What do you think? Gunman69

Well for what it's worth I think that Tyne Daley is carrying a Colt Python "snubbie" in The Enforcer. It looks to be the right size since the Diamondback is built on the same frame as the Colt Detective Special while the Python was built on the old 41 frame - a bigger frame. Also the hammer's spur on the revolver carried by Tyne Daley looks like a Python hammer instead of the Diamondback. But I do believe that Felton Perry was carrying a Diamondback in Magnum Force. Hey John, Matt had asked me that same question so I talked to the other armorer on set Larry. Larry confirmed it was a two-tone Jericho 941 Blued slide and a hard chrome receiver. I was working with the SWAT guys for the night club scene and Larry handled the stunt guy which is who had that weapon. - Steve

John, It looks like the first photo is the two-tone Jericho 941 and photos two and three are the two-tone EAA Witness as those are different stuntmen. I would try and get some paperwork as backup but those were Gibbons Ltd gun and they have been sold to ISS.- Steve

I appreciate the weapons I missed. That's the eagle eyes I expect. BUT .... I'm not at all happy with MORE shots of the guns I already have. You and I have a fundamental difference of opinion regarding the number of screenshots for a movie page. You like to have WAY more than I like to have per weapon and though it really irritates me, I don't do anything to your pages. I do get annoyed when you add gun pics to the sections where I already have pics. I certainly cannot trim down the screenshots on pages that you make, though on pages like LMS I sure would like to delete about HALF of the screenshots, Why should I have to accept something which I fundamentally disagree with ... on my own pages? Well, I see you're already doing it anyway. :) But yeah, it's cool if you want to upload more. Just don't go too crazy. Also, you should go ahead and separate the AK variants. When I did this page originally, IMFDB wasn't in the habit of distinguishing the Norinco Type 56s from the AK-47 or AKM, so go ahead and separate the first section into the different variants. Chamelot-Delvigne Model 1873

Hey John, I see that you added the blued Chamelot-Delvigne Model 1873 back to the Chamelot-Delvigne Model 1873 page. Just to let you know the the revolver was never issued blued it was issued in a bare metal finish only. That was the reason I uploaded the correct image over MPM's. Just letting you know. - Steve

I agree with keeping the original finish, but here's a thought ..., if some armorer somewhere, at sometime decided to BLUE his gun and it appeared in any film (I'm not saying it has) but if it did, we would be benefited from having a blued version, even though it would technically be some gunsmith's aftermarket conversion. Just at thought. But the revolver WAS issued only "in the white" historically... :) MPM2008

Finally replaced some of the old images

Two tone Jericho 941. All of our Jericho (original pics) are of the original 941. I don't have any of the 941FS, which seems to be the model which is used whenever they have two toned Jericho pistols - the FS has the decocker on the frame, not the slide. I'll check around to see if anyone has a 941FS model.

Heckler & Koch HK91-A3. I hated that jacked image of the A3 model with a 'custom flash hider and barrel' it was a non-standard configuration that no one would ever see in a movie.

Winchester 1894 - .30-30. Is this a saddle ring carbine? There's no marking on it other than Winchester Model 1894 - .30-30 Winchester and there doesn't seem to be a hole for the saddle ring, but it looks to be the same

FINALLY replaced that jacked image of a Benelli M3 Super 90!! I will also have a version of the M3 with ghost ring sights and the shorter pistol grip version soon

Finally replaced that 'place holder' picture of the black Jericho 941. I was sitting, staring at a 941 for weeks, but I didn't have time to set up the photographic lighting rig. This one is way better than the previous one.

How do you properly do Redirects without losing the history of the page it was before? Because everytime I do it, I mess up somehow. Sorry about my late response, I've been busy between work and finishing the Deadwood page. It's all done now so I'll go through looking for errors and discrepancies, etc., etc. I appreciate your information added about the S&W Models 1 and 2, which I'll try to sort out once I can find good gun pictures for each to use. In response to grouping the SAAs together, I would do so (as I normally do) but since I took a large number of screencaps, I decided it would be at least a semi-logical way to split it up. The Joe Kidd page looks great of course; very interesting to see a C96 used in a Western (although it's a shame they used the typical Hollywood bottomless magazine!) Did someone ask for a Mossberg Pic?

I could have sworn that someone, someplace requested that I photograph a Mossberg 590 shotgun (parkerized version) with a 500C wooden furniture for some movie but I can't remember now what it was for. Hey John, Looking over the Joe Kidd page you built looks nice. I believe that the Colt 1877 Lightning you show in the capture is a Colt 1878 Double Action in 45 Long Colt. Also the Lightning photo you posted in the Lightning page for Kill Bill is a Cimarron Lightning Single Action. If thats the case does that go in the Single Action Army page like the Uberti's? -Steve

Calico Weapons page

Well I've been busy, photographing every Calico Variant I can think of (or that is available to me). The Calicos are probably the least photographed weapon on the Internet and a lot of the web based information pages on the Calico are either wrong or lame. IMFDB will soon be the only place where a lot of these variants are seen (well at least via a cursory Google search). I owe you an apology on the Model 60

Well, today I saw the owner of the Model 36 in satin nickel and he said 'that's not in satin nickel. I was talking about another gun. That's stainless', WTF? That's not what I remembered, but oh well. I popped it open and it is still marked Model 36, so I queried more about why it was marked Model 36-2 and he 'forgot' to mention that it was a factory missmark and thus was collectible. So my tirade about the Model 60 being a custom Model 36 seems a bit unnecessary. I showed him the IMFDB site and he basically concurred, there is nothing about that gun that makes it different from a Model 60 other than the weird factory model stamping which no one can see. I'm no S&W expert, but he set me straight and pointed out that I was wrong to complain about others naming it a 'model 60' when for all intents and purposes, it looks just like one. Help with Identifying Guns

hi, I was talking to a friend and he said that he saw 2 unusual weapons on CSI, i was wondering if you could tell me whether or not they were real

the first was a gun that, somehow was able to shoot 2 rounds into the same wound whilst only clicking the trigger once. Mail Call

I know you don't listen to me and use this to make the score bigger, but counting the REPEATS of weapons already establish. The Garand, the M16 repeats at least 3 times and you counted them into the score. That's just stupid. It's like if I take the 4 seasons of the Unit an counted 1 for every time I see a firearm, even though I have already established that we do see it from season 1. I put down M4s, but I don't do it 4 different times because this rifle has appeared in all the seasons, I just put images of how the rifle looks from each season under the M4 category. I label each section, handguns, SMGs, rifles, etc and put weapons under each regardless of the seasons they've appeared in. The format you've done for Mail Call makes it very messy and kind confusing and VERY unnecessarily LONG. I'm not dissing your efforts, I just think you over did it. I have been contributing to this website for a long time and have written several articles and provided additions to many others. However, while I identify gun use in my pages and include pictures of the firearms (taken from other articles on this site) I have never been able to figure out how to upload pictures to this site from outside sources. Any instruction you can provide on how to do this would be greatly appreciated. My computer skills are mediocre to say the least, therefore I would be greatful if you could make the instructions as simple as possible.

Arggg, did a Frankgun Fix

FIXED in Photoshop Podbyrin 9.2mm pistol (merged a rounded Beretta 92S trigger guard onto the handgun to make it look more like the movie gun)....

I spoke to the original gun owner, and suggested a 'frankengun' fix in PS, and surprisingly, he said he 'thought it was cool'. He was intrigued to see what the pistol would look like with the 'correct trigger guard', so I took a photo of a Beretta 92SB and 'merged' the rounded trigger guard onto the Podbyrin. How does this look? I usually try to avoid doing a lot of photoshop on a gun pic, other than lightening shadows or darkening highlights or fixing scratches or (obscuring SNs). Matrix Screencap

I noted on the Matrix discussion page that I was conducting a test and had realized that the existing screencaps are distorted, but the image is exactly the same as yours (the exact frame actually). Nothing on the page has changed, other than the fact that it was not uploaded by you. When people change pages, they're actually CHANGING the page, i.e. making the content different. I will only replace screenshots if they're distorted or crap. Yours were not crap, but I noticed that they seemed stretched upwards and I conducted a test to verify that. MPM2008

All it says is that there were three Shilo Sharps No. 3 rifles in 45-110 manufactured for him to use in the movie. Cool Guns

I've long considered the Luger P08, Mauser C96 Broomhandle, and the Webley Mk VI revolver to be "cool" handguns. Oh sure there are better handguns out there and certainly more modern handguns, but that itn't the point. Since I was your age (really) I have wanted an example of those three handguns. Honoring Actors who have passed away

Since the news of David Carradine's death :( I was cruising around IMFDB and I noticed a nice touch to Charlton Heston's page. Someone put a photo of him, not a screenshot, in which it simply stated, "Charlton Heston: 1923 - 2008" I wanted to do something similar to Brandon Lee's page (1965-1993) :( , but I also thought that it would be nice (but completely optional) to put a DOB-DOD listing on actors who have passed away. I was going to do one for PhoenixEnt's page for Morris Ankrum the actor, I was going to put (1896-1964) but I figured I would check first. Also I thought it would be nice to know which of our famous actors have passed on. Thoughts anyone? I'm not going to do any sort of mass campaign to do so, but to know that no one else has objections would be nice. :) MPM2008

Screencap assisstance

I am a little confused on what it is necessary to obtain sceencaps. I am under the impression that specific software is required inorder to play movies in a manner so that screencaps be taken. If that is the case where can this software be obtained.

Payback edit mistake

I recently viewed the changes you made to the Payback article. While I agree completely with your eliminating the Smith & Wesson model 29 and 28 sections and replacing them with one section on the model 27, I noticed that you got rid of the section on the Beretta 92 Porter uses akimbo with his 27. This weapon was definitely present in the film therefore I am confused as to why you omitted it. I have not changed this myself for fear I might accidentally undo some addition or correction.

Actually, I rather don't care for the new template. I looked at the text in the editing and saw that it is extremely complicated to create. In addition, while the new system presents more information in a more organized fashion, I find it less aesthetically pleasing that the older, simpler format. While I have no problem with the new template being used, I contacted you because I was hoping that contributors who prefer could still create articles using the older format.

Per the anonymous user's comment, (since I can't reply to him) The template only applies to ACTOR pages and Gun pages. No one user has ownership of an Actor page or gun page. Users have 'some' rights over MOVIE/TELEVISION/ANIME/VG pages that they have worked hard on, but that's only a courtesy. If something is horrendously wrong, like a new user creates a hideous page, they have no right to keep a stupid page (like the guy who put 'The Ring as a page, WTF?). MPM2008

Payback yet again

I noticed you removed all of my responses on the Payback page to your comments about mistakes the characters or filmmakers made. I realize that my comments made the text about the images rather lengthy and I apologize if they made you feel that I was being overly critical of you, but the reason I wrote them was because Payback is one of my favorite films and I felt the need to defend it when any justification could be made for its errors. I do not intend to replace my comments, however, deleting them while entirely disregarding the arguments they presented (my Walther-Bersa feature mistake excepted) seems a little discourteous. Once again I am sorry for giving you so much grief over this page the last couple of weeks, but as I stated this is one of my favorite films and I just wanted to see it done justice.

I realize you enjoy pointing out the gun-related errors films make (I really do as well to be honest) and I have no issue with that whatever. In fact, the majority of your criticisms I left alone because I found them to be fully justified. The only comments I made were pertaining to mistakes I thought could justified such as missing at a close distance because the target is concealed or useing a poor grip because the size and location of a target make a hit guaranteed. I know some of the excuses have shaky foundations, but sense I enjoy the film so much I have been grasping at straws to vindicate it. I don't mind your removing them so much as I hope you at least considered what they said first. I will try to stop beating a dead horse and refrain from further commenting on this film, however I am not entirely sure I can restrain myself. ;)

Standardize Template Layout

Hi, As we are moving forward with the new layout on the Guns and Actors pages. We need to finalize a standard layout for the Template. We have been changing gun pages over and they do look better but everyone has their own style. Dates for instance some are on the right side some on the left, some have the most current movie at the top and some have the oldest. Then we have other issues like the headers are different from one poster to another. We need to fix these issues now before we have a ton of double work to do. Please give you feedback on pages completed like the M1911 pistol series and the Steyr AUG so we can have a standard on these pages. Thanks - Phoenixent

To the mods: Though my own preference is strongly towards chronological order, I can accede to the wishes of the majority. I do like the format of Title First, before actor. Please note all, in the Steyr AUG page that the title, then character, then actor template, dovetails nicely into the other genres (television) but also Anime and Video games. Since there is no Character in some and no Actor in Anime or Videgame, I think this order maintains the same look from Film all the way down to VG. Updated Template

Thanks to everyone for the response. I have changed the first entry in the 1911 page to a blend of both mine, MPM and MT2008 which looks very nice right now. As to the other suggestions on lines for each entry I have posted samples at Talk:Test Template Page. The third sample looks the best as in not quite as busy as the others. The colors can be changed to a lighter gray or blue if that need to be changed to make it a little more eye appealing. It looks like we are getting close to a standard on this pretty quick. As for added actors using the same weapon I have always included them on the listing instead of trying to place multiple actors on one entry that way it has less clutter. Deleted Article Question

As an administrator I was hoping you could answer a question I had regarding some deleted articles. I noticed recently that the Television pages for American Dad, Family Guy, and The Simpsons had all been deleted. This seemed logical as animated programs such as these may not provide detailed enough images of firearms to definitively say what weapons the images were supposed to represent making these pages rather out of place on this website. However I noticed that the article for King of the Hill still exists which has better animation quality, yet still seems to have some of the issues as other animated pages. In addition, there are many other articles mostly on older video games and some animated works that have these problems. Why is it some questionable articles are deleted while others remain? I am not complaining about the decisions made, I am just curious about the process that leads to an articles deletion.

Fantastic new caps from Public Enemies! I'm definitely going for the first day it comes out, I'm a huge Mann fan as well (since you said it, I figure it won't sound as bad if I did haha) and I did a report on Dillinger in 7th grade and I've been fascinated with all that since then. I sure hope my teachers weren't worried about me after that :-/ Anyway, especially good call identifying the .38 Super M1911A1 machine pistol that Dillinger used. I'm really glad Mann used that, as neither of the other Dillinger films I've seen had it! If only there was a way we could share duties capping that when it's out on DVD. One book that does a great job is the Public Enemies book written by Bryan Burroughs, it covers Dillinger, Bonnie & Clyde, Pretty Boy Floyd, Baby Face Nelson, and the Barker-Karpis Gang. Really a very interesting book with a ton of stuff if you're looking to check some of the accuracy of the movie. I read the script actually (a few months ago so it'd still be pretty fresh) and I think they took a few liberties with who was involved with the gang and when they were captured/died/etc., but with things like that it might progress the story in their favor to have it play out a different way. I noticed the wide variety of new advertisers on this site. I am slightly confused over some of the new sponsers. While many of the ads are not surprising, I have seen ads promoting cosmetics and high-heeled shoes. Are these people unaware of the demographic this site caters to or are the ads simply generated randomly.

First off, I loved it. I feel like Mann really put a lot into this one (as well as the cast/crew, etc., giving credit where it's due of course) but I was incredibly impressed. I feel like they had done extensive research and used that to make the story so good. Like you said, the creative license with Nelson/Floyd/killings during Michigan City jailbreak/etc. may have been wrong but I feel like it did help to move the story forward for viewers not quite as knowledgable to the rest story as people like us ;)

Mann also proved that just because a movie takes place in the 1930s doesn't mean you only need to have 1911s and Thompsons. I noticed a bunch of the guns you had, such as the 1903A3s. I didn't get as good a look at the Winchesters, like the one used to wound Dillinger (I think the guy who wounded him in real life was John Shipley but I don't quite recall. I think the Sioux City bank robbery in the film was a mix of Dillinger's three 1934 bank robberies after his escape). I noticed a lot of revolvers, like the Colts you mentioned. I think I saw some with Smith & Wesson grips at one point but I can't remember when it was. I'm sure I'll go again to see it at some point this weekend so I'll be more eagle-eyed. Although I had especially noticed the shot of the Thompson during the Racine robbery and thought "that'd be GREAT for imfdb!" as well as a bunch of other shots. Amazing what this website does for the movie-watching experience haha

I was trying to do some shot-counting but it became difficult for me to sometimes discern who was shooting. But I agree; Bale looked steel-eyed when he was firing his 1911 at Nelson (also I noticed he kicked what looked like a nickel 1911 out of Pretty Boy Floyd's hand; I heard/read that the only nickel 1911s around during that era were the ones chambered in .38 Super. Do you know if this is true?)

Anyway I hope you enjoyed it, I know I certainly did. My friends were a bit confused by who the characters were exactly (which I could understand, Mann went right into the story!) but I was blown away! Another good (but long!) book to pick up if you have the time is a book called DILLINGER by William J. Helmer I believe. It goes very indepth into the story. The last couple summers my friends and I have been working on making our own Pretty Boy Floyd film but now it's gonna be pretty tough to avoid copying almost directly from PE! Hey John, Lets see if I can fill in some of the gaps on this. I restore the weapons for Gibbons Ltd used by John Depp and weapons were also supplied by ISS.

Johnny Depp's Colt 1911A1's were chambered for .45 ACP blanks they represented the real Dillinger's Colt 38 Supers. As of this time there are no 38 Super weapons or blanks in the industry.
1928A1 Thompsons the way we have them listed in everything is an error that I have yet figured out how to resolve. The weapons on the show are whats called a 1928 which is the same externally as a 1921 the difference is internal with a heavier actuator to reduce the cyclic rate of the weapon. The horizontal forends were offered on both 1921 and 1921 models of the Thompson. The 1928A1 is a World War II Thompson that had several shortcut in it to increase production during the war and were built by Savage and Auto Ordnance. The first short cut was no more commercial finish on the weapon then the fins were left of the barrel, The rear sight was changed to stamped L shape and not Cutt's comp was the final mod before production switch to the M1. Also if you notice when I have done pages with a Thompson in it the title is Colt 1921A or 1921 AC. The A is for a Thompson without a Cutt's compensator on it and AC is with a Cutt's. For the show there were Colt 1921's (Same weapon from Indy IV) with 1928 internals, 1928A1's refinished to look like a 1921 (Polished Blued finish) and there were some Thompson hybrids that were built by for the show.
1903 Colt Pocket Hammer was sent to the production it is unknown if it was used or it was used and the scene was cut.
Revolvers I know that both the Colt Detectives and Colt Official Police were shipped on the show. I will see if I can help out on the on Saturday when I see the film.
38 Super Machine Pistol used in the movie was chambered in 9mm blank as 38 Super is not carried by the industry. The weapons was built by ISS for the film.
BAR these were supplied by Gibbons Ltd and were modified in the Bonny & Clyde configuration by another gunsmith for Gibbons Ltd.

I'm pretty sure that the 1903 Colt Pocket was the gun that Dillinger used for about the last third of the film, in place of the 1911 he had carried earlier. It's the gun he takes with him to the theater and then tries to draw before he gets killed by Purvis and the other agents. I have no idea how accurate this is in real life.

I believe Depp had the 1903 Colt Pocket Hammer in the Tucson hotel scene. It was brief as Depp sets it down on the table and you can see the tab for the mag catch. But would need to see it on DVD to be sure. Did see a whole was full of Colt Official Police in the Crown Point jail vault. Also the machine gun out side of Crown Point was a Colt Model 1928 Light Machine Gun. -Steve

FC2 SVD

By the looks of things it's a bit of both; the forend has twin holes halfway up like the FPK, but it's shaped like the SVD's and the exposed part of the gas piston is smaller like the SVD's, too; other SVD features are things like the cheek pad, the kink in the fire mode switch as opposed to the AK-like switch on the FPK, and so on. Though the weirdest feature the FC2 SVD has is a duckbill three-point flash suppressor like it's an early M16. Vangelis 10:22, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey I was just wondering if you knew of a good website from which I could download some good firing sound effects for a movie I'm doing/editing. Preferably there would be sounds for a Thompson (with the higher ROF on the earlier models) and a .44-40 Winchester, as well as pistols. I had considered trying to get some sounds from Youtube but they didn't sound crisp enough when I added them to the film. No big deal, but I was just curious if you knew of anything. That's actually a very good idea to borrow from movies like that, I wish I had thought of it! I might be able to get some crisp Thompson sound shots from Dillinger or Miller's Crossing. The Grizzlies in 45 Win Mag were loud with hearing protection on. The Thompsons used on the set started out as Colt 1921's when Tim Curry was firing them but when we switched to the bridge scene the flash did not appear on camera. The cyclic rate on a 1921 was to just fast enough to not show completely on film so we went to the Colt 1928 Thompson we had on hand and the Colt 1921 became a backup. Also on the bridge scene the actor that fired the Thompson tossed away a Smith & Wesson M&P Snub Nose. On the pistols for the head on shot I would have to check and see if I have the paperwork for those. - Steve

This is true, the only real difference is those cocking serrations. To me it has more features common to the CGNM. Most noticeably is the sight rib, with is a part of the slide. I have yet to see this on any other colt variant with the exception of the AMT Hardballer. It is possible that it's a custom series 70, but it's also a possibility that it's an older custom GCNM.-RedJedRevolver

Well I do not know for sure. I have yet to find information on the older (pre series -70). In the mean time, I think the best thing to do, would be to call it a Custom Match Grade Series '70 Colt, because everything on there lends credence to it being a Match grade firearm. I will look for older models though. What do you think? btw, is it just me or does the second picture look like a commander sized gun? The distance from muzzle to the tip of the frame seems too short for a standard. -RedJedRevolver

Hey John, I agree with that it is not a Gold Cup National Match. Those sights look like a Millet copy of the Novak. The markings on the slide appears to be a Mark IV Series 70 Government Model. So I believe it's a Colt Mark IV Series 70 Government Model with Millet sights. -Steve

Yeah after some reasearch this is not the NM as I had thought. That D*** sight rib threw me off, never seen another Colt with that, and the markings are a Series 70 (or later) and no series 70 NM had straight serrations. I somewhat think this was a Colt custom shop gun. Sorry, you were right man. But if you change it back please make note it has been customized to hell. Lol, for what was probably paid for the custom job, that gun;s owner probably could have just bought a NM-RedJedRevolver

Create a sub-page to use as an archive. For example, at User_talk:Gunmaster45/Archive1, and move the text you want to archive there.
Add the following code to the top of your main talk page, to link to the archive or archives: <div align=right style="float:right;font-size:100%;">'''Archived talk:''' [[User talk:Gunmaster45/Archive1|1]], [[User talk:Gunmaster45/Archive2|2]] etc.</div><br />
Adding a note at the top of the archive pointing out that it's not to be used for discussion, as well as a link back to the main talk page, is good idea as well.

Glocks

I asked about this on another forum a few months back. The answer is...there's no consensus. Some of the Glock fans I talked to told me that the Glock "Generations" refer to the styling only (meaning, any Glock that has rails and finger grooves is a 3rd Gen, while no rails and checked backstraps is 2nd Gen, etc.), while others told me that it does indeed refer to specific models (meaning, a Glock 17 with rails is a 3rd Gen, but a Glock 22 with the same style frame is only 2nd Gen). From what I gather, Glock themselves haven't really taken a specific position on the matter. Also, I have Gun Digest issues from 1999-2000 (when the rail frame/finger grooves models were introduced), and the advertisements for Glocks in them don't make any references to "3rd Generation" or "2nd Generation". So, from what I can tell, the "Generation" nomenclature was invented by fans, not by the company.

Long story short...I stopped caring how people described them, which is why I haven't reverted changes by other users, but I guess the first way of doing it (associating Generations with the styling only) is much easier and makes enough sense. -MT2008 02:03, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Thinking of adding a brief forward to the Far Cry 2 article

As you might have noticed, it's almost finished and I'll have any remaining images tonight. I was thinking of adding a brief introduction it, just explaining firstly the game, then a subheading explaining how the inventory system works and the player actually gets weapons in the game, since our pages on movies tend to include a shot of how a character first acquires a weapon if there is one [say, Arnie talking to the gun store owner in Terminator]. Hey, I haven't checked the forums in awhile so I don't know if anyone's had this idea before, but I was wondering if we should set up a way of making pages for movie armorers or at least one page with the armorers and links to the movies they've done. Smith & Wesson hammers

I don't know whether or not you have the answer to this question but I thought I'd ask anyway. I was doing some reading recently and learned Colt's Positive Lock safety, separating the hammer from the firing pin to prevent accidental discharge, was developed fairly early in the twentieth century and applied to Colt revolvers, however, many Smith & Wesson revolvers continued to use the simple spiked hammer design for decades. I was currious if you knew when, if ever, S&W adopted a safer mechanism for their revolvers and if you had any details about the design.

The grip on the Colt 38 Super

Hey, my contact got back to me on the Colt 38 Super machine pistol from Public Enemies. I asked him how the rail for the grip was attached to the frame, and he said this:

"[T]he rail was semi permanently added with some small screws. The screws can be removed from the rail but where they anchored into the frame---those marks will still be there."

Unfortunately, one thing I'm starting to realize is that even if I do use Blu-Ray, I won't be able to take screencaps that look quite as good as the disc player is capable of generating. On my HDTV, Point Break on Blu-Ray looks very good, but on my laptop, it doesn't come out nearly as well. You may have noticed, for instance, that the resolution of these is only 1166x528 pixels even though the resolution on the disc is 1280x720. This is either due to the limits of VLC Media Player, or my laptop's graphics hardware, or maybe both. And it also may explain why the images aren't quite as sharp as they could be. So if I can edit them manually, I will gladly do so to get the most out of having Blu-Ray. -MT2008 14:06, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Also, I tried playing Push in Blu Ray on my laptop, and much to my disappointment, it looks WAY worse when I use the screencap function on VLC Media Player (the screencaps come out semi-pixalated). I'm beginning to think it really is an issue with the player and that I'm going to need to find a better screencapping software. That's probably talking about the two gun positions on the sides that a Blackhawk tends to have. Also, out of curiousity; I wrote that extra section on Brawl because he's basically a giant prop, which I think fits in with the general idea of this Wiki to say what's a real weapon and what isn't. Looking at it, it does look like a Vulcan; the barrels look like they're tapering inwards towards the muzzle in both those shots, though the barrel clamps are a little off. Brawl's would probably be whatever Blackout's is. Vangelis 10:15, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

I've edited the note on the BFR to clear that up a little; "BFR" is obviously a reference to the true meaning of the "BFG" acronym, even though the guns themselves aren't anything like the Doom one. I tried right-aligned images, but they either aren't lined up, or if they are add a lot of big empty spaces to the article. Also changed the tables, I like yours better. Neon Genesis Evangelion: Glock 17

Thanks for pointing that out; I don't understand too well because it says that Glock 17 has "a safety" but then says it doesn't: please explain more clearly (not here, on my user talk page; I don't check in very frequently...or on the Evangelion page). My bad understanding after reading through this is that "the Glock 17 doesn't have an external safety switch, it's got an automatic safety on the trigger so it only fires if you pull the trigger properly; the English dub inserting a line where a character says "safety off" while looking at his glock makes no sense, because there IS no external safety-switch" - is that correct?--V 21:39, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Template Layout

Hi Everyone, Now that I am back let's talk about the page layout template. On the forum we had one item brought up about the chronological order being reversed. Also another item was brought up about putting lies or boxing in the information. As admin it is up to us to police the site and make a decision that is agreed upon by the majority of admins and then implemented. Let's all go back to the Talk:Test Template Page and nail these last issues down. Hey GM, I just wanted to say I thought you had a great idea for concealing the spoilers on the page for Se7en. I always hoped there was a way to explain how the gun was used so that people who had seen the film would understand but people who hadn't wouldn't have it ruined for them. Also great work with the page, as always, it's coming along very well and definitely needed your skills! Do you think we should start maybe going through some other films (when we have time) with major spoilers in the descriptions and changing them to fit the format for the descriptions on Se7en?
