Welcome to IMFDB

Before you do any editing please take the time to read the Rules, Standards and Principles. This is a very important document that explains how this website is setup as well as telling you what is and isn't allowed. If it is determined by an admin that you have not read these rules, your account will be suspended. Continued non-compliance may result in a permanent ban.

There are a number of pages that desperately need your help. You can find these Incomplete pages here.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here but make sure to sign your post by typing --~~~~.

Finally, IMFDB has a forum set up here that is only available to registered members. There is lots of good stuff to see there. If you would like to join the forum, please post HERE and an account will be created for you.

Now, HAPPY EDITING! Zackmann08 IMFDB Chief of Operations (talk) 11:24, 4 June 2013 (EDT)

Unnecessary comments

I've modified/removed several comments you've made on pages that weren't necessary and frankly didn't seem professional. The Rules, Standards and Principles page clearly states that there should be no snarky commentaries on pages and that criticisms should be as scholarly and neutral as possible. I wanted to address to you personally instead of bringing it up with a mod since I don't think you're doing it on purpose, but still wanted to bring this matter up nevertheless. Screenshots

Please refer to the IMFDB Style Guide when it comes to file names. "I Demand a Plain Roll!.jpg" is simply not a good file name. And if you want to update the image on the page, you just have to tweak the thumbnail size, going from 500px to 501px, for example. --Funkychinaman (talk) 16:21, 22 March 2014 (EDT)

Shorthands

"jap." immediately before words in Japanese is about as offensive as "rus." before something in Russian, it's only going to offend people who make being offended their life's work, since it's obvious from context that it's referring to the Japanese language rather than Japanese people. Evil Tim (talk)

JPN is the preferred abbreviation for Japanese in American English, given that "Jap" has unfortunate racist undertones thanks to WWII here (sort of like calling black people "negro" to prove a point). Feel free to look this up here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jap. --A Jaded Lizard (talk) 20:36, 3 February 2018 (EST)
Yeah but that doesn't really work as an equivalent since there's no language called "Negronese" the name of which is not regarded to be offensive that you might be talking about instead. If there was and you were clearly talking about that language, it would be silly to get offended by it. Anyway, it doesn't really matter since I've removed it, I figure most people can figure out the stuff that looks like it's Japanese is Japanese without further prompting. Evil Tim (talk) 01:22, 4 February 2018 (EST)
Feel free to ask any Japanese you know what their preferred race is "Japanese" or "Jap," and whether referring to them or their language as "Jap" would be offensive. I'm curious what their response would be. I'm white, and I don't appreciate accusations of race baiting. I'm not really interested in arguing on this either, but it's pretty common knowledge elsewhere on the internet, especially in places where lots of kana and kanji (such as the anime wikia I administer) are used. To use your argument, "Rus" probably wouldn't be offensive, but "Russkie" would almost certainly irritate someone, and that's without the racial undertones Russkie doesn't have, but Jap does. The point is, racial slurs are racial slurs, and context doesn't make them acceptable. --A Jaded Lizard (talk) 16:57, 4 February 2018 (EST)
No word means anything without context, and no slur means anything but the intent the reader assumes is behind it. Stop going around getting offended on the behalf of hypothetical people, you'll be much happier that way. Evil Tim (talk) 01:41, 5 February 2018 (EST)

And you're continuing to miss the point. So disappointed. --A Jaded Lizard (talk) 11:01, 5 February 2018 (EST)
I don't care and to be honest neither should you. Evil Tim (talk) 12:40, 5 February 2018 (EST)
By Jove, you're right! I should only care about bigotry and racism when it effects me! Why didn't I see it before?
