Welcome to IMFDB

Before you do any editing please take the time to read the Rules, Standards and Principles. This is a very important document that explains how this website is setup as well as telling you what is and isn't allowed. If it is determined by an admin that you have not read these rules, your account will be suspended. Continued non-compliance may result in a permanent ban.

There are a number of pages that desperately need your help. You can find these Incomplete pages here.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here but make sure to sign your post by typing --~~~~.

Finally, IMFDB has a forum set up here that is only available to registered members. There is lots of good stuff to see there. If you would like to join the forum, please post HERE and an account will be created for you.

Now, HAPPY EDITING! bunni (talk) 14:46, 20 June 2013 (EDT)

File names

Please use distinctive file names for your uploaded images. If it's for Largo Winch, then you can name it "LW_HP_01.jpg" or something. Simply naming it "Hi Power 1.jpg" is confusing and can lead to files being overwritten. --Funkychinaman (talk) 16:33, 22 July 2013 (EDT)

Images

I noticed that you kept reverting an image. If this is because the image won't change to the one you uploaded then just give it some time since the site takes awhile for images to update.Mr.Ice (talk) 16:35, 27 July 2013 (EDT)

Lord of War

The nickel-plated AK from this movie does not appear in Typhoon. Why did you edit the page to say otherwise? I was briefly worried that you were engaging in vandalism, before I looked at your other contributions. Next time, please be more careful when making such edits. -MT2008 (talk) 20:36, 27 July 2013 (EDT)

Desert Eagle caliber

Don't go by what is marked on the slide of a Desert Eagle, but by the number stamped towards the front of the barrel. The .44 Magnum and .50 AE cartridges have the same case diameter which means that all that is needed to switch the caliber is to change the barrel and the magazine, hence the slide is the same for both calibers. I don't know if all Mark XIX Desert Eagles chambered in .44 or .50 are simply marked .50 on the slide or if this gun has been modified later, but as you can see from the markings at the front of the barrel it is currently a .44. Also, you can see that there is fluting (grooves) along the outside of the barrel, which are present on .44 barrels but not .50 AE ones. --commando552 (talk) 20:45, 28 July 2013 (EDT)

PPS-43 in The Last Cartridge

Hello! You made an edit in The Last Cartridge about PPS-43 with straight magazine. It cannot be Finnish M/44 because the magazines in PPS and M/44 are attached in different ways and the movie-used SMG has a PPS-style attached magazine. The shape of the receiver is also PPS, not M/44. Greg-Z (talk) 09:34, 3 August 2013 (EDT)

2012

Please crop the black bars from your uploaded screencaps and reupload. Thanks. --Funkychinaman (talk) 18:37, 22 September 2013 (EDT)

Your screenshot was not in the right aspect ratio and the black bars weren't cropped. I would suggest using VLC player to capture screenshots in the future. --Ben41 (talk) 03:45, 23 September 2013 (EDT)

Edits in Zvezda

You changed the entry for Mauser rifle to 98k. Are you sure that the screen rifles are really 98k? According to Firearms by Aleksandr Zhuk and Mauser Military Rifles of the World by Robert Ball, 98k rifles never had straight bolt handle. These rifles look more like Czech Mausers like Vz. 24 (or Vz. 23 in case of the rifle without grooves on the stock). Maybe you have some information about 98k that I don't know? Greg-Z (talk) 03:37, 29 September 2013 (EDT)

The rules doesn't allow to use here other language than English, but you can email me on [email protected] in order to discuss in Russian. My email adress is also on my user page. Greg-Z (talk) 15:04, 30 September 2013 (EDT)

Elysium

Please do not add any more low quality screenshots. I'm not sure what source you're using, but these do not appear to be in high definition. You can still write descriptions on the page, but please wait until the official US video release date to add any more photos. --Ben41 (talk) 15:04, 7 October 2013 (EDT)

Actor pages

The Petr Vins page lacks a screenshot where the actor is seen. That isn't recommended (Style Guide on Actor Pages, second paragraph). If you have no screenshot or production still where the actor is seen (preferably with some firearm in hands) then it's better not to create a page and keep a red link until a screenshot can be added (maybe from some other movie). Greg-Z (talk) 15:40, 19 October 2013 (EDT)

I have a screenshot, but did not have time to add it. Now I'll add it. Andrey Karchikyan (talk) 23:51, 19 October 2013 (MSK)

AK pages

I have moved the 5.56mm AKs back onto the AK-47 page for several reasons. Firstly, these are mostly just 5.56mm version of 7.62mm rifles so separating onto a different page altogether doesn't make sense. Secondly, having them on a different page makes it harder for less knowledgeable users to make IDs. Thirdly, moving them onto a new page would break most of the links on the actor/media pages. In the future, if you want to make big changes like this please suggest it on the talk page first to check that it is OK. --commando552 (talk) 19:26, 19 October 2013 (EDT)

I understand you. Next time I will circumspect in such matters. --Andrey Karchikyan (talk) 13:53, 20 October 2013 (MSK)

Addition of Additional Variants of firearms

I have to say, it seems like you've been adding a lot of images of additional variants of guns on the site. That would be fine except it seems they're just there and don't seem to be added because they were used in anything or because someone made an inquiry. The rules state the site doesn't need to document every variant of every gun out there unless they have been used in something - are those extra pics really necessary? If so, great, if not, maybe it should be reevaluated as to whether they belong on the site. I wanted to talk to you personally about this instead of bringing it up with an admin since I don't think you're trying to do anything wrong or anything, just wanted to know what was up. Also it's mostly procedure when you recieve any messages on your talk page to reply in the poster's talk page so they know you've made a response. Thanks again for your attention on this matter StanTheMan (talk) 18:15, 24 October 2013 (EDT)

That's ok, I was pretty sure you were just trying to help out, which is why I talked to you directly. I know there were problems before about people putting up tons of images just because (not just extra guns but extra screencaps as well) but those guys were just being jerks - didn't seem at all like the case here. It's all good, live and learn and all that - Hey I made a few screwups here and there too. ;) Anyway, appreciate your reply - I know you got some loaded because people asked about certain variants which is usually alright. Otherwise I think the point is that it should be kept in mind to keep use of the wiki's space down as much as we can so it runs smooth for everyone. I'm no admin so I can't really 'command' anything but I like trying to help out where I can, same as you and hopefully this might have helped you avoid a telling-off later or something (well maybe not a telling-off, they probably would have responded like me, the admins aren't jerks.. mostly :P). Heh, again, thanks for the reply. StanTheMan (talk) 16:23, 25 October 2013 (EDT)

MW2 AK

I'll tell you what they've done there; the gas tube is the right length for a -47 but it joins to the barrel at 90 degrees, which means it's joined in the wrong place (to the back of the band on the barrel rather than in the middle of it). That makes it look like a -103. Evil Tim (talk) 16:00, 27 November 2013 (EST)

New image of Golden Desert Eagle

The new version of DesertEagleGolden.jpg has a poor quality. What was the reason of replacing of the old image with this one? Greg-Z (talk) 09:16, 7 December 2013 (EST)

Another thing to bear in mind is that not only was the caliber different, it is the current production variant that has a MIL-STD-1913 rail and lower profile safety rather than the older model which the image originally was. If you are replacing an image, you should always make sure that it is the exact same variant as otherwise it potentially makes its usage on other pages incorrect. If there is a piece of media that has a gold plated current production Mark XIX then feel free to upload it as a separate image file, but only if it has actually appeared in something. --commando552 (talk) 14:07, 7 December 2013 (EST)

Please stop uploading low quality images instead of old ones. If you think that your image shows some feature of the weapon that isn't seen on the existing version, then upload a new image as an additional one and put it on discussion page but don't replace the old one. Greg-Z (talk) 07:04, 8 December 2013 (EST)

You again replaced an image with a low quality new version. The new version of DTASRS.jpg is very blurry, unlike the previous version. Keep in mind that it't the last warning. Greg-Z (talk) 09:40, 3 January 2014 (EST)

About the low-quality images.

Before you write to me about the poor quality of images uploaded by me, I ask you to read it. My advice: do not do that - try to find a better image, better than mine, in the same format. If you can - instead of mine put it, if not - please, do not write to me in such occasion. Thanks in advance. Andrey Karchikyan (talk) 01:12, 6 January 2014 (MSK)

I don't see any problems with the quality of Type 94 image that you uploaded, but such manner of discussion - "do not even think to write to me in such occasion" - is unacceptable. Don't use such statements in future, please. For your own sake. Greg-Z (talk) 01:44, 6 January 2014 (EST)
Unfortunately there is a problem with the Volcanic image you just replaced. If you compare the original image to the one you replaced it with they are clearly different variants, with your image having a longer barrel. You should only replace an image if the new one is a higher quality image of the exact same model, as otherwise it leads to the image being incorrect on some pages. If a long barrelled Volcanic pistol has appeared, then this image should be uploaded as a new file and used accordingly. --commando552 (talk) 05:26, 6 January 2014 (EST)
commando552, thanks for the correction. Unfortunately, I can not find the image volcanic repeater pistol with a short barrel in good quality. If you can find it, I'll be very grateful to you. Good luck.

Greg-Z, you're right, I was too emotional. I changed the wording. However, I beg to listen to my words. Not always possible to find enough quality new images, so you have to be content with what we have. If you can find good quality pictures, I'll be glad to see him and I'm ready to admit his mistake. If not - I hope you understand me. And by the way, despite the poor quality of some images uploaded by me, it is still, in most cases remains high enough to image data could be placed on the site. Andrey Karchikyan (talk) 15:12, 6 January 2014 (MSK)

I have replaced the Volcanic pistol iamge with a larger version of the same model. The one you posted on my talk page is fine to use, however it shouldn't overwrite the original one as it is again a different model. The original image has engraving (this was a factory option, note that it is exactly the same of the two images) whereas the one you posted is plain. --commando552 (talk) 20:11, 7 January 2014 (EST)

Resident Evil Afterlife

Your source for the screenshots appears to be of low quality. Please find a DVD or HD source in the future because the weapons are hard to identify if the video quality is inferior. --Ben41 (talk) 18:30, 12 April 2014 (EDT)

Do NOT replace MPM images

You tried to replace the SIG P210 image that was actually a copyrighted image from MoviePropMaster2008. Please do NOT do this. If you see the IMFDB copyright logo in the lower left, do not try to replace the image. --Ben41 (talk) 17:18, 22 April 2014 (EDT)

Oh, sorry, I really don't know for this rule. Andrey Karchikyan (talk) 01:31, 22 April 2014 (MSK)

Do NOT replace any more gun images. If you want to upload a new gun image, make a new file. --Ben41 (talk) 15:43, 25 April 2014 (EDT)

That is the authority of a man whom I do not know, it means more to you than the improvement of images quality? Andrey Karchikyan) 23:48, 25 April 2014 (MSK)
I am one of the admins of the site. I had just told you not to replace a gun image that was done by MoviePropMaster2008 and if you look at the history of the Bren Gun image, you can see who last modified it. He works in the movie business and has very graciously provided very good images of weapons actually used in films. You can still upload images, just don't overwrite any. --Ben41 (talk) 16:20, 25 April 2014 (EDT)
You, me, and 98% of the users on the site just go online and grab whatever gun images we could find. MPM takes the time to photograph guns, some of which are screen used, just for us. --Funkychinaman (talk) 16:58, 25 April 2014 (EDT)
Then what do these images on the page devoted to these weapons? Brings them to the discussion, or at least, mark, please, as "screen used gun." Andrey Karchikyan) 01:08, 26 April 2014 (MSK)

Banned for 1 Week

I just told you NOT to replace images. You are banned for a week to think about it. --Ben41 (talk) 18:22, 25 April 2014 (EDT)

It's never a good idea to come back from a ban and do the exact same thing you were banned for in the first place. I understand your motivation, it's not a great image, but your image is not an improvement. Either find an image that is truly an improvement, or just let it go. --Funkychinaman (talk) 04:58, 4 May 2014 (EDT)
I was forbidden to replace only MPM images. Is the last three that I replaced were these? What about Orita M1941 image - I'll try to find it in the best quality. but while it is - the best I've found. however, in my opinion, it really was better than that taken now. --Andrey Karchikyan 16:58, 4 May 2014 (MSK)
Bigger in dimension yet smaller file size doesn't make it better. --Funkychinaman (talk) 09:45, 4 May 2014 (EDT)
The original image does not look to me like a real weapon - rather like drawing or 3D model. And I was looking for exactly what is the real weapon. Andrey Karchikyan 17:58, 4 May 2014 (MSK)
No one is barring you from uploading it as a new file. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:11, 4 May 2014 (EDT)

Richard III

Your screenshots are low resolution and in the wrong aspect ratio. Please only upload screenshots from legal sources. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:26, 4 May 2014 (EDT)

Let me see if I can be more clear: STOP UPLOADING. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:32, 4 May 2014 (EDT)
I'm terribly sorry, but where I'll get it in good quality in Russia? I already downloaded the torrent the best of what has been. Andrey Karchikyan 22:35, 4 May 2014 (MSK)
As far as I know, Russia is not a lawless third world country. I'm sure someone sells or rents legal DVDs somewhere. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:39, 4 May 2014 (EDT)
I prefer to download torrents - my finances are too limited to waste them on DVD discs. And besides, who wants to try to sell not very popular 1995 releasing film?

Honestly, I do not want to quarrel. Maybe I will post some images to Lee-Enfield rifle, and then you will find and post better versions of these images. It's a great plan, right? Andrey Karchikyan 22:45, 4 May 2014 (MSK)

Except for the part about making me spend two hours watching a movie I wasn't going to otherwise watch, sure. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:59, 4 May 2014 (EDT)
Um... What this no people except you and me? You can also post a message on the talk page that need screenshots in good quality. Put this banner, ({{incomplete}}) finally --Andrey Karchikyan 23:05, 4 May 2014 (MSK)
Other than the principle of making work for other people, there's the issue of uploading images from admittedly pirated sources. Oh, and when an admin tells you to stop uploading bootleg images, stop. --Funkychinaman (talk) 15:18, 4 May 2014 (EDT)
Oh, I see you've never lived in Russia. Otherwise you would speak very differently, honestly. --Andrey Karchikyan 23:21, 4 May 2014 (MSK)
We do not condone the usage of bootlegs/torrents as a source for caps (perhaps you need to re-read the site rules), in particular when it is a widely available film and your reasoning is purely that you do not want to pay for a legitimate version. If you do not legally own the DVD and have no legal way to obtain or stream the film, then do not cap it. --commando552 (talk) 18:25, 4 May 2014 (EDT)
If for you it is so available, supplementing an article about it themselves. But for me it is currently only available in the torrent version. --Andrey Karchikyan 07:54, 5 May 2014 (MSK)
We have no control over how you get your media at home, but you will refrain from uploading caps from illegal sources. --Funkychinaman (talk) 00:28, 5 May 2014 (EDT)
OK. I will consider your opinion and try to load images only from legitimate sources. However, there are cases where the quality of legal sources worse than illegal. But it's not our problem, is not it? --Andrey Karchikyan 14:54, 5 May 2014 (MSK)
I strongly recommend you to change this manner of discussion, for your own sake. Greg-Z (talk) 15:36, 5 May 2014 (EDT)

Sucker Punch

Your Sucker Punch caps are also from a torrent, aren't they? --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:52, 6 May 2014 (EDT)

No, DVD. --Andrey Karchikyan 22:57, 6 May 2014 (MSK)
In that case, use VLC, select PNG as your format, and then convert them to JPGs afterwards. You get much better results. --Funkychinaman (talk) 15:00, 6 May 2014 (EDT)
I use the MPC (Media Player Classic), and I never had any problems with it. But if you think that VLC brings the best results, I will use it. --Andrey Karchikyan 23:12, 6 May 2014 (MSK)
If MPC has a capture option that allows you to take PNGs, then try that. --Funkychinaman (talk) 15:34, 6 May 2014 (EDT)
That is, first you have to offer to save the image in PNG, and then convert it to JPG? --Andrey Karchikyan 23:37, 6 May 2014 (MSK)
Yes. Instructions are in the IMFDB Screencapping Guide. --Funkychinaman (talk) 15:46, 6 May 2014 (EDT)
I did a similar thing now downloading a new image to the page of Matrix, The film. It really is somewhat improved image quality. Thank you for the advice! --Andrey Karchikyan 23:53, 6 May 2014 (MSK)

Your images

Because you are adding images to pages that have HD caps (these have dimensions of 1280 x 544 or 1920 x 796px), any screenshots that you add will be looked at very closely. The ones you added are only at 720 x 408, which are not of the same quality. In the future, if you cannot find Bluray or HD sources for popular films, please add your screenshots to the discussion first before adding it to the main page. --Ben41 (talk) 17:32, 6 May 2014 (EDT)

I would like to take screenshots in high resolution, but Media Player Classic will not let me do that. I think I really need to install VLC Media Player --Andrey Karchikyan 10:47, 7 May 2014 (MSK)
It's not a matter of what media player you use, it's what your sources are. --Funkychinaman (talk) 02:51, 7 May 2014 (EDT)
I do not agree. Those screenshots, I added to Hangover, The movie, were made using Media Player Classic with licensed DVD - while their quality is pretty bad. --Andrey Karchikyan 16:47, 7 May 2014 (MSK)
Are you sure that was a legit DVD? Because those Hangover caps are in the wrong aspect ratio. --Funkychinaman (talk) 11:14, 7 May 2014 (EDT)
Yes, I am absolutely sure. Just as in Taxi 4 screenshots of which I do not spread, but has already begun to do. And there is the same problem. Perhaps I still will install VLC Media Player? --Andrey Karchikyan 19:29, 7 May 2014 (MSK)
Are these Region 5 DVDs that you are having a quality problem with, or imported Region 1 or 2 ones? If they are R5, then this might be the problem, as although legal licensed DVDs, R5 DVDs tend to have a worse picture quality than R1/2 ones. The reason for this is that R5s are released very soon after the film hits cinemas (only a few weeks I believe) in an attempt to counter illegitimate piracy. However, this means that they have not undergone any of the post processing or optimisation that a proper R1/2 release would have and are basically just ripped from a cinema reel using a telecine machine with varying degrees of success. Even if you are using a sub-par quality R5 there are some things you can do to improve how the image looks, such as correcting errors in the aspect ratio and adjusting the brightness/contrast and sharpness using an image editor like Gimp for single images, or something like FastStone for batches. --commando552 (talk) 11:46, 7 May 2014 (EDT)
I know this problem quite well. Many French and Italian movies that I own are on Region 5 DVDs, and I had a lot of work, manually correcting aspect ratios. Greg-Z (talk) 15:21, 7 May 2014 (EDT)
Now I can not say exactly the format, since I do not have these discs on hand. But as soon as I see it again, I'll try to find it on this what is the Region. --Andrey Karchikyan 23:27, 7 May 2014 (MSK)

I looked drives and reported results. Taxi 4 has Region 5 on Hangover, The I could not find what region, but the disc definitely not illegal. --Andrey Karchikyan 16:17, 11 May 2014 (MSK)

Gun Images

From now on, do not overwrite ANY more gun images. If you want to add a new gun image upload as a NEW image with a new filename. Also, I would recommend NOT using Media Player Classic to grab screenshots as its screengrab feature does not produce very good images. I would recommend using VLC player and grabbing these first as PNG files, then using Fast Stone Image Viewer to convert to Jpgs. You also use Fast Stone to screengrab. --Ben41 (talk) 19:45, 9 May 2014 (EDT)

VLC Media Player I'm already using. And about the gun images - let me to decide whether to overwrite them to me or not. As I recall, good luck in this case I had more than errors. --Andrey Karchikyan 16:05, 11 May 2014 (MSK)
"From now on, do not overwrite ANY more gun images. If you want to add a new gun image upload as a NEW image with a new filename." That means you don't get to decide whether to overwrite or not. --Funkychinaman (talk) 09:54, 11 May 2014 (EDT)
Oh, even if I can find the version with the best quality and in high resolution? --Andrey Karchikyan 20:45, 11 May 2014 (MSK)
Like the man said, upload under a new name. We'll decide whether to use it or not. --Funkychinaman (talk) 15:18, 11 May 2014 (EDT)
No, allow ME to decide, can I overwrite the file or not. Believe me, it would be better for everyone. --Andrey Karchikyan 01:15, 12 May 2014 (MSK)
No, that isn't how it works when multiple admins have told you to do something, particularly when you have that attitude. Some of the images you overwrote are fine, but others are at best unnecessary, or at worst destructive. You should only overwrite an image if it shows exactly the same weapon with the same accessories but at better quality. For example you should not overwrite an image if it shows the different side of a gun, if it is fitted with different sights, or if it is fitted with a suppressor or not. For one, it shows the gun in a different way which may aid in ID'ing it, but secondly by overwriting that image you may be creating errors in captions or descriptions which refer to that specific configuration. As some of your replacement images have been suspect you have been asked to upload them as new files to avoid future problems, and I strongly suggest that you do it. On a related note, is there any media that you have in mind which features the Panzerbüchse 38, because if not you should not have created a page for it. If it does feature in something, then in future please wait until you have made the corresponding media page before creating the gun page as it saves the admins the trouble of trying to work out if you are going to do anything with it or whether it needs to be deleted. --commando552 (talk) 17:42, 11 May 2014 (EDT)
The next step would be curtailing your editing rights. I hope we won't be forced to do so. --Funkychinaman (talk) 19:12, 11 May 2014 (EDT)
Actually, you could see that I suffered technical information about PzB-38 on the discussion page. --Andrey Karchikyan 18:01, 12 May 2014 (MSK)
You were told to stop overwriting gun images. Explain yourself. --Funkychinaman (talk) 11:48, 27 May 2014 (EDT)
Nevermind, you can explain yourself in three months. --Funkychinaman (talk) 12:13, 27 May 2014 (EDT)
Nine months now. --Funkychinaman (talk) 06:20, 7 June 2014 (EDT)

Treasures O.K. (Sokrovischa O.K.)

You're still working on this, right? --Funkychinaman (talk) 01:27, 13 May 2014 (EDT)

Yes. --Andrey Karchikyan 10:57, 13 May 2014 (MSK)
