The Norinco Type 63 rifle, also incorrectly referred as the Type 68 by Western sources, is a Chinese made assault rifle that was made to replace the Type 56 in Chinese service when soldiers needed a combination of long rifle range and rifle firepower. It was also exported to Vietnam, Cambodia, North Korea, Anti-Soviet forces in Afghanistan, Albania, and semi-auto surplus variants were also exported to Australia before the introduction of the 1996 bans on the legal ownership of semi-automatic longarms and pump-action shotguns.
