There Be Dragons is a 2011 war film following the early life of Josemaría Escrivá, founder of Opus Dei (Work of God), told through the flashbacks of Manolo Torres, a fictional friend of Escrivá. Most of the story is told during the Spanish Civil War, where Torres struggles with being a spy for the Nationalists whilst fighting alongside Republicans, and Escrivá struggles with being a Catholic priest in Republican-occupied territory.

A Mauser C96 "Red 9" is the preferred sidearm of Manolo Torres (Wes Bentley). He uses it to execute a CNT strike leader, and later Hungarian communist and love interest Ildiko (Olga Kurylenko) .

Colt M1911s are seen in the hands of Republicans throughout the film, most notably used to execute a Catholic Priest.
HAFDASA Ballester-Molina
A Ballester-Molina is used by Oriol to kill himself so he doesn't have to execute Ildiko. Again likely used due to the filming in Argentina, and standing in for the Star Model A widely used in the Spanish Civil War.

The Argentine Mauser 1909 Carbine is by far the most seen weapon on screen, easily identified by its distinctive endcap and bayonet lug. An anachronistic M1A1 Thompson is used by communist agitator Oriol (Rodrigo Santoro) after he acquires it from a dead Nationalist. It is never fired. It might be standing in for the earlier M1928 Thompson (Which was used in small numbers by Republican forces in Catalonia and American volunteers).
Labora Fontbernat M1938
When Oriol has to fire his M1A1 Thompson, it is replaced by a Labora Fontbernat M1938 SMG mocked up to look like a Thompson.
Machine Guns
FN MAG
An FN MAG is used by Nationalists. The gun is an anachronism but was probably used to impersonate a machine gun of the period, as it is only seen for a few seconds.

Other
T-26 Light Tank
A Soviet-made T-26 appears in one of the battle scenes. During the Spanish Civil War, the Soviet Union was the only country to supply the Republicans with heavy equipment overtly. Interestingly, only Russian crews were allowed to crew these tanks.
Heinkel He-51 fighter
A He-51 appears in the film, used by Nationalists to bomb Madrid, almost killing Father Escrivá. The He-51 was supplied to the Nationalists very early in the war by Germany. Initially, they were flown by German pilots of the Condor Legion. As more modern planes became available to the Condor Legion, Spanish pilots took over flight duties of the He-51.
