Several [[Colt Model 723|Colt Carbines]] are seen wielded by Groom Lake / Area 51 USAF personnel in the two-part episode "Dreamland" (S6E04 / S6E05). The weapons best appear to be Colt Model 723 variants, noted by the slightly thicker smooth (non-notched) barrels and fixed carry handles. Some (perhaps all) of the weapons feature full A2-style upper receivers (distinguished by the brass deflector and A2 rear sights). The carbines all also feature mounted weaponlights.

Several [[M16 rifle series#Colt XM177/CAR-15/Commando Series|XM177-type carbines]] are seen used by military personnel and SWAT officers, notably Groom Lake / Area 51 USAF personnel in the two-part episode "Dreamland" (S6E04 / S6E05). Unlike previous seasons of the series, these weapons all appear to be mocked up from newer Colt Carbines with A2 receivers (distinguished by the brass deflector and A2 rear sights) with a slightly different style of mock XM-type flash moderators, more similar to those commonly seem on carbines in LA productions (This would be appropriate, given the series' move in production to Los Angeles from Vancouver beginning in S6). The carbines all also feature mounted weaponlights.

The X-Files - Season 6 (1998-1999)

The following firearms were used in Season 6 of the television series The X-Files:

Handguns

SIG-Sauer P226

FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) carries a SIG-Sauer P226 as his sidearm. Other FBI agents and government personnel are seen with P226s.

Beretta 92FS

Beretta 92FS pistols are seen numerous times throughout the series, carried and used by police officers and government agents, as well as soldiers and military personnel as a Beretta M9 substitute. A Beretta 92FS is seen carried by Special Agent Diana Fowley (Mimi Rogers) in "The Beginning" (S6E01).

Colt Python

A stainless 4" barreled Colt Python with grooved grips is taken and used by Patrick Crump (Bryan Cranston), a man suffering from a critical inner ear illness due to exposure to faulty extremely-low-frequency (ELF) transmission, to hold Mulder hostage in "Drive" (S6E02).

Crump holds the Python on Mulder in "Drive" (S6E02). TRIVIA: Bryan Cranston would later go on to play the central character Walter White in Breaking Bad, which was produced/written by The X-Files writer Vince Gilligan. Gilligan, who wrote "Drive", specifically wanted Cranston to appear in the episode; His performance here would become a deciding factor for AMC officials to allow him to be cast in Breaking Bad. Along with Dean Norris and Aaron Paul, he is one of three Breaking Bad stars who first came to Gilligan's attention through their guest appearances on The X-Files.

Luger P08

German soldiers occupying the Queen Anne luxury liner in "Triangle" (S6E03) are seen with Luger P08 pistols.

A Jericho 941 is used by 'Lone Gunmen' member Richard "Ringo" Langley (Dean Haglund) to "shoot" Suzanne Modeski (Signy Coleman) in "Three of a Kind" (S6E20).

Jericho 941 R (early model) - 9x19mm

Submachine Guns

Heckler & Koch MP5A3

Numerous Heckler & Koch MP5A3s are seen throughout the series. These are wielded by police tactical officers and government agents, as well as military and black-ops personnel. In Season 6, these weapons are first seen wielded by Groom Lake / Area 51 USAF personnel in the two-part episode "Dreamland" (S6E04 / S6E05), fitted with Surefire 628 weaponlight forearms.

MP40

German soldiers occupying the Queen Anne luxury liner in "Triangle" (S6E03) are seen with MP40s.

MP-40 - 9x19mm
German troops drag away Mulder In "Triangle" (S6E03). An MP40 is seen slung on the soldier to the left. The use of MP40s is a (slight) anachronism as these sequences in the episode take place in 1939; The MP40 wasn't introduced until 1940. However it could be argued these weapons are stand-ins for the less-available MP38.

Another German soldier with an MP40 on Mulder and the OSS agent / 1939 version of Scully in "Triangle" (S6E03).

Rifles / Carbines

M16A2

Actual M16A2 rifles are seen in the later seasons produced in Los Angeles, California (Season 6 onward), rather than Olympic Arms variants as seen in the previous Vancouver-produced seasons of the show. These appear in the hands of police and law enforcement officers, as well as military personnel.

Another USAF soldier with an M16A2 with mounted weaponlight slung as he arrests Mulder at the conclusion of "Dreamland" (S6E04).

M16A1 (Mocked up as M16A2)

Some M16A2 rifles seen are actually M16A1s fitted with A2-handguards to stand-in for the M16A2. Several of these rifles are seen in the hands of police officers manning a roadblock in "Drive" (S6E02).

M16A1 with A2 handguards - 5.56x45mm. Putting the distinctive A2 handguards on the older rifle was a method used by Movie/TV armorers to simulate A2 rifles when M16A1s were the only ones available.

Another Highway Patrolman with an M16A1/A2 mockup in "Drive" (S6E02).
The Nevada Highway Patrol officers with their rifles in "Drive" (S6E02). Note the thinner barrel, as well as the lack of brass deflectors and A2-style rear sights, clearly indicating these are M16A1 rifles with A2 handguards installed to pass for M16A2s.

XM177 / CAR-15 (mock-ups)

Several XM177-type carbines are seen used by military personnel and SWAT officers, notably Groom Lake / Area 51 USAF personnel in the two-part episode "Dreamland" (S6E04 / S6E05).

Another shot of the Senior Airmen with his Colt Carbine, this image better showing the receiver - Note the brass deflector and A2 rear sights. Note also, however, the older 'teardrop'-style forward assist. The pressure switch for the weaponlight can also be clearly seen in this shot, mounted on the right side of the handguard.
To the left is an Air Force soldier with a XM177 mockup with mounted weaponlight in "Dreamland II" (S6E05). Note again the brass deflector on this rifle, not seen on original XM177s or CAR-15s.

LAR Grizzly Big Boar

What appears to be a LAR Grizzly Big Boar with stainless barrel and lower receiver, ported muzzle brake and scope is seen in the hands of a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper manning a roadblock in "Drive" (S6E02).

LAR Grizzly Big Boar with black finish - .50 BMG (12.7x99mm). Note the ported muzzle brake. The weapon seen in the show has a stainless barrel and lower receiver, but is otherwise identical.
A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper with a Grizzly Big Boar in "Drive" (S6E02). A single-shot .50 BMG rifle seems a somewhat odd choice of weapon for a patrolman to be carrying around.

Shotguns

Remington 870

Remington 870s are wielded by police officers and and government agents throughout the show. 870s are also seen rarely in the hands of black ops soldiers. Both standard variants and variants with mounted forend weaponlights are seen.
