The X-Files - Season 4 (1996-1997)

The following firearms were used in Season 4 of the television series The X-Files.

SPOILERS.jpg WARNING! THIS PAGE CONTAINS SPOILERS!

Pistols

SIG-Sauer P226

After carrying a different weapon in Season 3, FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) returns to carrying a SIG-Sauer P226 as his sidearm, which he carried during Season 2. Mulder would carry the P226 for the entirety of the show from Season 4 onwards. Mulder's superior, FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) is also seen with a full-size P226 in "Unrequited" (S4E16).

SIG-Sauer P228

After carrying a different weapon in Season 3, FBI Special Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) returns to carrying a SIG-Sauer P228 as her sidearm, which she carried during Season 2. Scully would carry the P228 for the entirety of the show from Season 4 onwards, except for several Season 4 and Season 5 episodes when she used a SIG-Sauer P225 instead (see below). FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) is also seen with a P228 in "Zero Sum" (S4E21), as is Alex Krycek (Nicholas Lea) in "Tunguska" (S4E08).

SIG-Sauer P225

In several episodes, Dana Scully used a SIG-Sauer P225 rather than the P228 she used in Season 2 and other episodes of Season 4. This might have occurred because the show's armorer was unable to bring a P228 on-set for those particular episodes. Scully first used the P225 in "Unruhe" (S4E02), and would be seen using the gun in interspersed episodes throughout Season 4. Mulder and Scully's superior, Assistant Director Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) also occasionally carried a P225.

Walther PPK

Fox Mulder carries a Walther PPK as a back up weapon, carried in an ankle holster. He is seen using it when he loses his SIG-Sauer P226 during "Paper Hearts" (S4E10).

Revolvers

Taurus Model 66

Conrad Lozano (Rubén Blades) carries a stainless Taurus Model 66 in "El Mundo Gira" (S4E11). Soledad Buente (Jose Yenque) also uses the revolver at one point. This is almost surely the same Taurus Model 66 which previously appeared in the Season 3 episode "Pusher" (S3E17).

Mulder's revolver

In a dream during "Paper Hearts" (S4E10), Fox Mulder grabs his father's revolver from a box. This is the same revolver he attempted to use to save his sister Samantha from alien abduction as a child, seen briefly during Season 2's "Little Green Men" (S2E01).

The revolver falls out of the box when Mulder knocks it onto the floor during a dream sequence in "Paper Hearts" (S4E10).

Unknown revolvers

Throughout the season, many characters use various revolvers. Few are seen very clearly.

Rifles

Colt Model 715/Olympic Arms K4B (mocked up as M16A1)

Militia gunmen and several FBI agents in the episode "Tunguska" (S4E08) use Colt Model 715 rifles (or the Olympic Arms K4B copy, which is commonly used by armorers in British Columbia) fitted with M16A1 hand guards. Apparently, the armorers had no genuine M16A1s to use when the episode was filmed.

Also note that the rifle is missing the forward sling loop under the front sight for some reason (it may have broken off during a stunt).

M14

An M14 rifle is used by members of the Temple of the Seven Stars during "The Field Where I Died" (S4E05) and a militia gunman in "Tunguska" (S4E08).

Ruger Super Redhawk (mocked up to resemble the KAC silent revolver rifle)

The third rifle is what appears to be a Ruger Super Redhawk .44 Magnum mocked up to resemble the KAC silent revolver rifle. This is a long barreled pistol has a carbine length bull barrel, and a bipod and black synthetic buttstock. The rifle has appeared in movies and television shows filmed in Canada including Another Stakeout and Psych. It was previously used in the X-Files by an FBI sniper in the Season 1 episode "Lazarus" (S1E14).

Submachine Guns

Heckler & Koch MP5A3

Special Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) uses a Heckler & Koch MP5A3 with Surefire 628 flashlight forearm during the FBI raid on the militia in "Tunguska" (S4E08). Various soldiers also use MP5A3s through the show. Unlike in previous seasons of The X-Files, the MP5s are no longer fitted with flash hiders in Season 4.

(Mock-up) Heckler & Koch MP5K

What appear to be Heckler & Koch MP5Ks are seen used by government and military personnel. These do not appear to be real MP5Ks; but rather mock-ups built on the bolt carrier and magazine well of a Kimel AP-9, because the armorers in British Columbia did not have genuine MP5Ks during the 1990s. The same guns have also appeared in the film Crying Freeman and the series M.A.N.T.I.S. and The Outer Limits. These weapons are seen wielded by FBI SWAT agents in "The Field Where I Died" (S4E05).

Ithaca 37 "Stakeout"

A custom Ithaca 37 "Stakeout" with a chrome finish on the barrel and magazine tube and an MP5K style pump is used by Scott Ostelhoff in "Gethsemane" (S4E24). This gun can also be seen in several episodes of the television series Supernatural, Human Target, Painkiller Jane, and several other TV shows filmed in British Columbia.

Composite Pistol

In "Tempus Fugit" (S4E17) and "Max" (S4E18), various members of the Conspiracy use Composite Pistols. These seem to take after the weapon featured in the film In the Line of Fire, but have a different overall look and color than the weapon from that film.
