The Last of the Finest is a 1990 crime drama directed by John Mackenzie (The Fourth Protocol, The Long Good Friday) and stars Brian Dennehy as Det. Frank Daly, the head of an LAPD narcotics unit, who finds himself having to go underground when his unit discovers a conspiracy involving drug dealers and rogue US government operatives. The cast also includes Joe Pantoliano, Jeff Fahey, and Bill Paxton.

The following weapons were used in the film The Last of the Finest:

Pistols

Smith & Wesson 645

Det. Frank Daly (Brian Dennehy) carries a Smith & Wesson 645 as his sidearm. This pistol is also seen in the hands of Detective Wayne Gross (Joe Pantoliano). The use of the Model 645 is inaccurate. Filmed in the Fall of 1988 the Los Angeles Police Department wouldn't authorize officers to carry the S&W 45 auto pistol until 1997; after the infamous North Hollywood Bank Robbery. Unintentionally the movie is eight years ahead of actual events.

Smith & Wesson 645 - .45 ACP. This particular 645 is the screen used pistol carried and fired by Don Johnson in the series Miami Vice.

Beretta 92FS

The Beretta 92FS is the handgun carried by Det. Ricky Rodriguez (Jeff Fahey). Captain Torres (Henry Darrow) is seen using a Beretta on the firing range. The movie was filmed in the Fall of 1988. The L.A.P.D. was in the midst of transitioning from the Smith & Wesson Model 15 and Smith & Wesson Model 67 at the time, so the Beretta is technically accurate.

Colt Python (Stainless Steel)

A stainless steel Colt Python is the revolver carried by Det. Howard "Hojo" Jones (Bill Paxton).

Shotguns

High Standard K-1200 Riot Deluxe Shotgun

The High Standard K-1200 Riot Deluxe Shotgun is used by several LAPD officers, including Frank.

Submachine Guns

Heckler & Koch HK94A3 (chopped and converted)

Frank is seen using Heckler & Koch HK94A3 with 16" barrel chopped and converted to resemble an MP5A3 during a shootout. The weapon is fitted with a Surefire light dedicated forend and has three mags taped together "jungle style".

Colt Sporter II Carbine

Some of the henchmen appear to be armed with the Colt Sporter II Carbine.

Colt Sporter II Carbine with 20 round magazine - 5.56x45mm. Colt model #R-6420. Colt still insisted on using the SP1 style lower receiver so any rifle that looks like this but has the ribbing around the magazine release button is not a Colt rifle. Variants of this rifle have both the round and tear drop forward assist buttons, however, most of the early years of production had the tear drop button, like this rifle in the photo.
