It's a shame that this exquisite example of Smith and Wesson's handywork is so underused in movies and games-S&Wshooter 17:58, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
I guess their interest is mostly in either the bigger-caliber large-frames or the smaller 'pocket' revolvers like the Model 36. Orca1 9904 18:15, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
I know, but the +P model holds 7 shots! How is that not interesting? "Did I shoot 5 shots 0r 6? Oh wait I have 7! *BLAM*

One of the side arms used by Raptor Pilots in the new Battlestar Galactica series was a modified S&W 686.

Capacity means nothing in a movie.--FIVETWOSEVEN 19:53, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Usually. It did matter in Blood Work, though.--PistolJunkie 23:05, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

One movie < most movies. Also I highly doubt that most would notice UNLESS a point is specifically made about it in the movie.--FIVETWOSEVEN 21:31, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

They actually do point it out in Blood Work. I had never heard of the 627 before I saw it, and was almost certain that one of the script writers had botched up when Clint said "eight shot Smith & Wesson". But yes, ammo capacity is usually dependent on the same thing that a character's intelligence, vehicle, and computer all run on; a 1:1 solution of plot and applied Phlebotinum.--PistolJunkie 00:28, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Are you, by chance, a TV Troper? - User: 2wingo

I was watching the newer hitcher movie and saw some behind the scenes stuff. i think the 4" 686 used is the plus model. in a deleted scene you can see the locking notches aren't above the cylinders and what looks like 7 chambers. just to let you guys know. this is my first post on this site. sorry if there are any issues in posting and not having an account currently. 1/11/2011

I kind of wish I could get a IMFDb-quality picture of my 686+, so we could have one of a 5-inch barreled Stocking Dealer Special, and so there would be at least ONE picture of one online.-S&Wshooter (talk)
I don't agree with putting such an image on here solely for the sake of doing so. That variant is probably not something that ever will be seen in a film, and that's the main point behind posting up a gun image - it either has to have been in something, or be likely to have been in something. Granted there are some extra images but they're either there for information purposes or they just don't have listings yet. In both cases it's only a few extra images though. No matter how cool it is or how much you think it should be featured, that alone isn't reason to post an image. There's a few gun images I've seen that could easily be canned because they were likely posted up 'just because'. That said, there IS a 686 Plus image on the site, right on the gun's page actually - The one with the 3" barrel. StanTheMan (talk) 15:34, 15 May 2014 (EDT)
