Globalsecurity says these were phased out in favour of the M240 in 1977, M60A3 didn't even start development until 1978. Evil Tim 22:22, 8 November 2011 (CST)

M60A3s were just upgraded A1s though, not a new design. Most of the upgrades appear to be in the fire control systems. --Funkychinaman 22:43, 8 November 2011 (CST)
Yeah, but if they were pulling the A1s in for a block upgrade at exactly the same time they were retiring the M73, they'd pull the M73s out and replace them. Army-Technology says current M60s have an M240 as their coax, so I'd guess only the pre-A3 versions would mount this. Evil Tim 02:32, 9 November 2011 (CST)

The only thing I can remember about this weapon and the M85 is how universally bad they were. If I remember the articles I read there were constant functionality problems and maintenance on them were a bitch. --Charon68 17:20, 9 November 2011 (CST)
Just to confuse this, apparently the M240 was the second replacement for the M73 on the M60 Patton, the first was the M60E2. So I'm not sure when Pattons stopped mounting M73s. Evil Tim (talk) 08:48, 23 June 2015 (EDT)
