The Time period of this series

I'm beginning to think this show takes place in an alternate early 2000s since something about Sousuke's XM8C being used, and Kaname's flip up phone never being updated to current time. Excalibur01 (talk) 17:41, 23 April 2018 (EDT)

That would account for Sousuke's XM8 since it was the hotness gun of that period and Mithril is known to have advanced weapons in their arsenal though oddly I would have thought a standard sidearm for Tessa's escort be a more updated 1911 if that was the case. I'll throw it in that Mithril SRT/PRT forces were using Cornershots in TSR, though one can argue that they got the first gen models from the production line before it made the '03 released date. Ominae (talk) 10:31, 6 May 2018 (EDT)

Not to mention the Cornershots they used were actually linked to their visors/goggles whatever you call them instead of video screens that are in the real ones, which is similar to the Land Warrior project. Which goes along with the concept that everything they use is years ahead of the most advanced countries in the world. The M9 ASs they use are barely in trials for the US though it seems like the Soviets of this universe is still trying to outpace the US with tech since they've already fielded their 3rd gen ASs developed by Amaglam. That's the problem with military-centric fiction that tries to keep viewers interested with the "latest and greatest." It just ends up looking ho-hum if the latest and greatest doesn't end up panning out, just like very few today get excited by the prospect of a major military force adopting the Dreyse Needle Gun as standard-issue. Now that the real-world timeline has long-outpaced the "cutting-edge technology" then-current in the original series' release date, we can only look at this series as alternate history rather than an exciting glimpse of what the real world might be in "a few short years." And the Land Warrior project didn't become anywhere near standard-issue. It's good on the producers of this series to keep with the original continuity, overdue as this season is (frankly, it should have been made decades ago since the source material is already finished and not many newer fans have even heard of the original series). Animated series are notorious for "sliding continuity" where it's always "the current year" (for the viewers when the shows originally came out). Another major comeback animation series that had its previous season in 2000, named Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card, has the titular character age only three years (back from when the series first started airing in 1998) and yet somehow be able to make a video call with a smartphone to someone overseas, as if the entire cast took a time machine to the late 2010s without ageing more than three years. If Clear Card used a more realistic continuity, Sakura would have had to place an overseas phone call to the other character while paying through the nose for the privilege (something that many younger viewers would know nothing about). --Mazryonh (talk) 21:08, 24 April 2018 (EDT)

Sousuke's Glock

M4/M203 with no rear sights!? and other low production moments

This is the first time I've seen an animation company done so poorly with how firearms are portrayed. We typically see very fine details but a lot of the scenes with firearms are done kinda piss poorly, especially the M4s. I can understand a live action movie or series forgetting the ask the armorer to put some sights but this is an animation. They remembered to draw the top rails but not a sight? 00:31, 20 July 2018 (EDT)
