Splitting into sections?
Does anyone mind if I split this into the correct sections? By that I mean M1919A4, M1919A4E1/A5, M1919A6, AN/M2 (which is incorrectly on the Browning M2HB page right now), and M37 (if it is genuinely in anything, will find out when I sort them but from flicking through pages that use the image so far none have). --commando552 15:55, 17 May 2012 (CDT)
M1919A6
Was this version designed as a replacement for the BAR in the SAW role, or simply to be a more mobile GPMG along the lines of the MG42? Spartan198 (talk) 18:02, 9 August 2015 (EDT)
- I always heard it did intend to replace or at least supplement the BAR as more of a SAW, though I understand in practice this didn't really end up being the case - Though they cut a bit of weight with the barrel for the most part it was still just the 1919A4 with a stock, bipod and carry handle added to it, as such it certainly wasn't light or mobile enough for such a role. With the bipod I suppose it did fill a bit more of a GPMG role, and was possibly used as such but I had long heard that many troops ended up doing away with the stock and bipod and continued to use it more as a crew-served medium MG on more fixed mounts (like the A4) and keeping the BAR, which they still saw as the only real one-man-operable squad automatic.
