Broqua & Scholberg Marked .44 Russian Single Shot Pistol. Breech Opened by use of Thumb Lever on the side of the receiver.

Broqua & Scholberg Pistols is a family of breach-loaded pistols, produced by joint Uruguay-Belgian Broqua & Scholberg company (founded in 1856). Their design appears to have been inspired by Nagant 1877 Gendarmerie. These top-break pistols, often with two barrels, but sometimes made with one barrel, were quite popular in South America in the 19th century. There was also a variants with sliding barrels (like the French Darne system). Most of the pistols were made in Liege, Belgium, but some, apparently, were produced in Uruguay. They are rare in North America and in Europe, because most was went to Montevideo, Uruguay.
