Sudden Impact (1983)

Smith & Wesson Model 29

"Dirty" Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) carries his Smith & Wesson Model 29 .44 Magnum as his sidearm in the film, until it is kicked into a curb drain by Mick (Paul Drake). He then uses his AMC Auto Mag Pistol in .44 AMP as a replacement.

Callahan holds his Smith & Wesson Model 29 on a robber in the diner as he holds a woman hostage.

"Go ahead, make my day."

Callahan dispatches the mob assassins with his Model 29 after hiding in a trash can.

"I guess I should read you your rights." Callahan arrests a bank robber in San Paulo.

AMC Auto Mag 280

After being attacked by the group of assassins in the mob, Insp. Callahan (Clint Eastwood) is inspired to take out his old pistol, an AMC Auto Mag 280 chambered in .44 AMP. When his Smith & Wesson Model 29 is kicked into a curb drain by Mick (Paul Drake), he replaces it with his Auto Mag for the remainder of the film. The production crew had a very difficult time aquiring this gun to the point where they had to contact the original designer, who had enough parts in his basement to build two guns for the film. The first was left in live firing mode so Clint Eastwood could shoot it and accurately depict recoil while the second was converted to fire blanks for the film. The gun's serial numbers were "Clint1" and "Clint2".

AMC Auto Mag 180 - .44 AMP.

Callahan takes his AMC Auto Mag 280 out of its case. Note how the magazines are loaded with six rounds instead of the full eight. This may be because he doesn't want to wear out the springs on the magazines, so he doesn't store them fully loaded. It could also be a reference to the famous 'Five shots or six' line in the first movie.

Never sneak up on a man with a loaded gun, especially if he's Clint Eastwood.

"Well, this is the .44 Magnum Auto Mag and it holds a 300 grain cartridge. And if properly used, it can remove the fingerprints."

Not to harp on Eastwood, but he gets a pretty good group for someone not using the sights.

Callahan takes his Auto Mag out of its case before heading to the fair grounds to get revenge on Mick.

Callahan kills Mick with his Auto Mag. It is rumored that for this scene a diver was hired on stand-by to retrieve the gun from the river after Eastwood lost his temper several times and threw it after it jammed, requiring several more takes.

Colt Detective Special

Jennifer Spencer (Sondra Locke) uses a nickel plated 3rd Generation Colt Detective Special as her weapon of choice to get revenge on the people that raped her and her sister long ago. Later in the film we see Mick (Paul Drake) use her gun to kill Police Chief Jannings (Pat Hingle). The barrel diameter indicates that it is a .44 special instead of a .38 special.

Smith & Wesson 3000 Shotgun

Horace King (Albert Popwell, in his fourth and final role in the Dirty Harry series) uses a Smith & Wesson 3000 Shotgun with a pistol grip and a side-folding stock when showing Insp. Callahan (Clint Eastwood) his marksmanship on paper targets. Later, Mick (Paul Drake) takes this shotgun from him after he stabs him and uses it for the rest of the film.

Two of the mob assassins attempting to kill Insp. Callahan (Clint Eastwood) use Browning Hi-Power pistols. Later, Mick (Paul Drake) tries to grab his to shoot Callahan when he walks into his house unannounced.

IMI Uzi

IMI Uzi submachine guns are used by several mob assassins chasing Insp. Callahan (Clint Eastwood).

Smith & Wesson Model 10

A Smith & Wesson Model 10 is used by the leader of the robbers during the diner robbery, who is soon killed by Callahan (Clint Eastwood).

"Smith and Wesson, and me." The thug watches Callahan draw his S&W Model 29 with his Model 10 drawn.

Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless

One of the robbers during the diner robbery uses a Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless.

One of the robbers during the diner robbery is seen briefly using a Smith & Wesson Model 19 revolver.

The robber farthest back is holding a Smith & Wesson Model 19, although it is at an angle that makes it look smaller.

Ithaca 37

One of the robbers during the diner robbery is seen using an Ithaca 37 shotgun before being killed. One of the police officers that soon responds to the robbery is also seen using an Ithaca.

Police Chief Jannings (Pat Hingle) uses a Smith & Wesson Model 36 when Jennifer Spencer (Sondra Locke) enters his house but is soon forced to drop it when Mick (Paul Drake) arrives.

M1911A1

An M1911A1 is used by the bank robber that Insp. Callahan (Clint Eastwood) chases when he arrives in San Paulo.

Trivia: The chase scene in the film True Lies between Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Salim Abu Azziz (Art Malik) heavily resembles the chase scene in this film and may have been inspired by it.

Colt M1911A1 - .45 ACP

A bank robber shoots a patrolman with his M1911A1 before running away from Callahan's car.

The robber runs from Callahan.

Another is later seen in the hands of one of Mick's (Paul Drake) men, George (Michael Maurer).

George holds his M1911A1 on Horace King (Albert Popwell).

George is shocked when Mick kills Chief Jannings (Pat Hingle).

Remington 7600

A Remington 7600 pump action rifle is seen in the hands of Mrs. Wilburn, who points it at Insp. Callahan (Clint Eastwood), though she doesn't fire it, and instructs him to leave her fish market after he starts beating her brother George (Michael Maurer).

Mrs. Wilburn points her Remington 7600 rifle at Callahan.

Shooting Callahan wouldn't be very good for George, since the bullet would likely go through to him as well.

Callahan is forced to leave the fish market.

Beretta 92SB

Ray Parkins (Audrie J. Neenan) shows off her personal protection Tyrone's (Wendall Wellman) hardware store, a Beretta 92SB tucked in her waist "Mexican carry" style. It is assumed to be the 92SB because the earlier Beretta 92 variants had a butt-mounted magazine release and the Beretta 92F didn't exist yet, leaving only the 92SB.

Browning Buckmark

An assassin tries to kill Insp. Callahan (Clint Eastwood) in his apartment with a Browning Buckmark pistol fitted with a suppressor, but trips on his dog Meathead, giving Callahan time to draw his Smith & Wesson Model 29 and kill him.

The assassin attempts to kill Callahan with his suppressed Browning Buckmark pistol.

The Buckmark was not produced until 1985, and this film was released in 1983. I can't tell from these photo what else it might be (though it looks like I see an ejection port and slide, and it looks like might be a supressed Hi-power to me) will have to dig out the DVD. -J3

Colt Trooper

San Paulo patrolman, Officer Bennett (Mark Keyloun) tries to fire his Colt Trooper at the bank robber but is injured before he can fire off a shot. Later, one of Mick's (Paul Drake) thugs is seen shot in the head by Insp. Callahan (Clint Eastwood) while holding a Colt Trooper belonging to Horace King (Albert Popwell) from his holster.

Callahan shoots one of Mick's men through cover, who is holding a Colt Trooper. Note how the squib is obivously present, that's too metallic to be flesh.

Molotov Cocktail

The jocks who are insulted by Insp. Callahan (Clint Eastwood) in the elevator try to burn his car with Molotov Cocktails, one of which burns the back of his car while the other one fails to shattter. Callahan then parks his car over and uses the unbroken Molotov to burn their car and causes them to crash into the river.
