Sniper (1993)

Sniper is a 1993 action thriller starring Tom Berenger as Master Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Beckett, a USMC sniper who is paired with Richard Miller (Billy Zane), a novice former Olympic sniper employed by the National Security Council, as the two are sent on a mission to Colombia to eliminate a drug cartel leader. The film would be spawn a film series as Berenger would return as Beckett in 2002's Sniper 2, 2004's Sniper 3 and 2014's Sniper: Legacy and Zane would return as Miller in 2011's Sniper: Reloaded and 2016's Sniper: Ghost Shooter. Both Berenger and Zane would reunite onscreen in the 2017 sequel Sniper: Ultimate Kill.

The following weapons were used in the film Sniper (1993):

Sniper Rifles

M40A1

USMC Master Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Beckett (Tom Berenger) uses an M40A1 in 7.62x51mm NATO, a sniper rifle based on the Remington Model 700. The M40A1 rifles used in the film were Remington 700 rifles, supplied for the filming by 'Weapons and Effects' of San Rafael, CA. The rifles were fully prepared as though they would see real use, with aftermarket bedding, trigger jobs, McMillan stocks and parkerization done by Scott, McDougall & Associates of Santa Rosa, CA.

Beckett takes aim with his M40A1. Apparently a Unertl 10X Mildot scope could not be procured for the filming, so what is mounted appears to be a Leupold M3 Ultra 10X.

Heckler & Koch SR9TC

SVD Dragunov

The guerrilla sniper DeSilva, who was trained by Beckett (Tom Berenger), uses an SVD Dragunov as his sniper rifle. Another guerrilla sniper at Ochoa's Compound also uses a Dragunov.

The Norinco Type 56-1 is carried by several guerrilla fighters in the film. They are fitted with AKM-style slanted muzzles, but are identifiable as Type 56s and not actual AKMs from the hooded foresight that only Chinese AKs have.

An L1A1 SLR rifle is seen hanging on a wall of the Marine Enlisted Club. As the movie was filmed in Australia and used an actual Australian Army NCO club this would have been an actual Lithgow Small Arms Factory Australian L1A1 with the original handguards prior to the introduction of the rounded variant more common on Australian L1A1's.
