Sniper (1993)

Sniper is a 1993 American action thriller directed by Luis Llosa and starring Tom Berenger as Master Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Beckett, a USMC sniper who is paired with Richard Miller (Billy Zane), a novice former Olympic shooter now employed by the National Security Council, as the two are sent on a mission to Colombia to eliminate a drug cartel leader. When the mission is comprised, the duo must find a way to complete their missions as well as devise a way for their safe extraction. Sniper would be spawn a series of DTV films, as Berenger would return as Beckett in 2002's Sniper 2, 2004's Sniper 3 and 2014's Sniper: Legacy and Zane would return as Miller in 2011's Sniper: Reloaded and 2016's Sniper: Ghost Shooter. The Type 56-1 assault rifle is carried by several guerrilla fighters. They are fitted with AKM-style slanted muzzles, but are identifiable as Type 56s and not actual AKMs from the hooded front sight that only Chinese AKs have.

An L1A1 SLR rifle is seen hanging on a wall of the Marine Enlisted Club. As the movie was filmed in Australia and used an actual Australian Army NCO club this would have been an actual Lithgow Small Arms Factory Australian L1A1 with the original handguard prior to the introduction of the rounded variant more common on Australian L1A1s.
