Nice, but where's the trigger?

Sherlock Holmes (2009)

The following guns, supplied by UK-based movie armourers Bapty and Co., were used in the 2009 Sherlock Holmes movie:

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!

Webley revolvers

Holmes' (Robert Downey Jr.) revolver, though of a style colloquially termed a 'Webley RIC' (after 'Royal Irish Constabulary'), is technically a No.5 'Express' model by the same maker. This was available from the 1880s onwards in either .360 or .38 caliber. Holmes' example has a 4" barrel, an early-style deeply-fluted cylinder (deeper front-to-rear than either the Bulldog or the true RIC), and a contoured frame at the lower edge ahead of the trigger guard. It also features a flattened swivel-type rammer, squared-off butt with lanyard ring, and a nickel finish.

Webley No.5 'RIC' - .360 caliber.

Several characters in the film employ Webley Bulldogs. Based upon their short 2.5" barrels and lack of a rammer/ejector, those wielded by Dr. John Watson (Jude Law) and American Ambassador Standish are most likely to be No.3 'R.I.C.' models in .442 calibre. These weapons fired a black powder cartridge and were gate loaders, unlike the later and more memorable "top break" Webleys.

Unknown Shotgun

In the carriage in the beginning, a police constable is briefy seen loading a shotgun. Based on how he loads the shell into the shotgun, the shotgun might be a Winchester Model 1887. Which would be a damned unlikely weapons for the LMP, a 14-gauge Greener-Martini Police Gun or generic 12 gauge side-by-side doubles perhaps.

It is a Winchester 1887. Will cap it when I can Excalibur01
Based on only the loading shot of the gun I would agree on the Win. 1887, however when the Metro. Police storm the ceremony hall the profile of the gun appears much too narrow to be that of the '87. So I would somewhat lean towards it being the Greener Police Gun.RedJedRevolver
I can't get a good screencap, but whatever it is, it has two Baddeley type bands around a single barrel. I'd agree with some variant of Martini-Greener shotgun.--Big les 18:50, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Unidentified pocket revolver

Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams) uses a pocket revolver of relatively large caliber, with open top and spur trigger, as seen in the promotional still below. (Possibly, given her nationality, a Smith & Wesson?)

I'm going to go with this is a belgian folding trigger revolver or pinfire revolver. Though there is another folding grip and folding trigger vest type revolver out there it could be but the name is eluding me.~Pawnstar

Maybe a Smith & Wesson Model 1? - Kenny99 20:46, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Looks like an open top revolver to me though..arent model 1's only break action with a top strap?

This pistol appears to be a small calibre (.22) copy of the Webley bulldog. These weapons were made in Belgium and sold very cheapy in Britain during this period. For a better view I located a picture of the props used in the film. http://www.tarverproductions.com/images/pic006.jpg

C. Sharps Pepperbox

Professor Moriarty is seen deploying, from a concealed wrist-mounted rig, a (probably reproduction) C. Sharps patent Model 1A four-barreled pepperbox type pistol in .22 rimfire with engraved brass frame

Pryse revolver

On the carriage ride to the 'raid' in the opening scene of the movie, Inspector Lestrade can be seen loading a Pryse patent revolver. Based upon the form of the front part of the frame, it is most likely the model of 1877, and may be a Webley-built gun, or any number of licencees and copyists.

Lestrade snaps shut his Pryse revolver

Enfield Mark II Revolver

A henchman disarmed by Holmes in the opening scene is armed with an Enfield Mark II .476 caliber revolver with its distinctive lower frame, designed to accommodate a cylinder which slides forward to allow reloading.

Enfield Mark II - .476 caliber.

Howdah Pistol

The Home Secretary, Lord Coward has a large-caliber (most likely .577) centerfire Howdah Pistol by one of the usual makers (e.g. famed shotgun makers Purdey).

Howdah - .577 pistol.

Police Revolvers

The actual police sidearms of 1891 were the older Webley M.P. Model in .450 Adams at least partially supplemented by the Army issue Webley Mark I (in .442 Enfield).

Silenced Revolver

This appears to be a Nagant M1895 Revolver. This would allow the weapon to be effectivly supressed due to the Nagant's gas seal design. This type of weapon may be anachronistic for this film and the prop used appears to be a Soviet manufactured model as a star is visible on the l/h side of the frame.
