The prize racehorse Shergar is kidnapped and held for ransom by the IRA, and left in the care of a farmer (David Warner). When the Irish government refuses to pay the terrorists' ransom, they plan to kill Shergar. A young farmhand named Kevin, however, learns of their plan and steals the horse so he won't be killed.

Browning Hi-Power

IRA leader Gavin O'Rourke (Mickey Rourke) carries a Browning Hi-Power as his personal sidearm. It is first used equipped with a silencer to shoot two guard dogs when the group kidnaps Shergar from his owners. The sound of the silenced gun firing is fairly accurate instead of the usual muted "pew" of silenced movie handguns. Later, O'Rourke pulls the Hi-Power at an S.A.S. roadblock, leading to his death.

Unknown Handgun

A silenced pistol is used by an IRA member to hold Shergar's owner at gunpoint during the horse's kidnapping. O'Rourke's bodyguard pulls a similar gun (unsilenced) at the roadblock only to be killed by the S.A.S.

M16

The M16 or some variant thereof is seen used throughout the film by various characters. S.A.S. soldiers at the roadblock are armed with them and use them to kill the IRA members in O'Rourke's car (including O'Rourke), and O'Rourke's right-hand man Concannon (Andrew Connolly) uses one in an attempt to kill Kevin at the end of the film. He never fires it, though.

Concannon's M16 is not actually kept in his Land Rover. Instead, it is removed from a different Land Rover and in a rather bizarre sequence passed down the line of IRA members, each one handing it off to the man next to him until it reaches its owner.
Concannon chambers a round.
Concannon finishes chambering the gun, providing an unobstructed view of the M16's side.
Concannon takes aim.
