It should be noted that a variation of the SIG 225 is the SIG P6, a West German police handgun from the 70's and 80's. In some films, it may actually be the SIG P6, rather than the P225, but for the sake of argument, the two are interchangeable.
Notable differences between the SIG 225 and the SIG P6 are that the P6 has a much heavier main-spring (giving it an intensely heavy DA pull) and a cruder feed ramp, thus lowering reliability with hollow point rounds. The P225, being a commercial weapon, was available with tritium night sights, while the P6 has standard iron sights.
The P225-A1 was launched in 2015. Compared to the original P225, there was a new contour to the frame, a short reset trigger, and a milled slide (the earlier one was stamped). The P225-A1 was discontinued in late 2019.

SIG-Sauer P228
The SIG-Sauer P228 was introduced in 1988 for commercial sale and was used by the US Secret Service until it was replaced by the newer P229 in .357 SIG. It is also used by the US military (under the designation M11). Also used in limited numbers by Pilots and Criminal Investigation forces due to need of a more compact weapon and can be authorized for shooters with smaller hands who have trouble gripping the Beretta M9 properly. Note that the newer SIG P228R has a squared trigger guard. Production originally ceased when SIG-Sauer introduced the 9x19mm variant of the P229. However, recently SIG-Sauer has introduced the M11-A1 for civilian sales, which is essentially the civilian version of the P228 used by the US military, equipped with a high capacity 15-round magazine.

SIG-Sauer P229
The SIG-Sauer P229 DAK (Double Action Kellerman) pistol was introduced to serve as a compact version of the P226 that could handle the higher velocity .357 SIG and .40 S&W rounds. The previous P228 had a lighter weight cast slide that could only take the higher pressure rounds if an overly heavy spring were installed. The newer P229 used a heavier CNC Machined steel slide that could take the high velocity return with a standard spring and not damage the pistol. The SIG P229 chambered in .40 S&W is the standard issue pistol of Department of Homeland Security and the Coast Guard, and P229s in .357 SIG are the standard side arm of the US Secret Service, and are commonly used by police departments around the country. When the P229 was expanded to offer the 9x19mm as a standard caliber, that marked the end of the production life of the older P228.
The original 9mm variant had a magazine capacity of 13+1 rounds. However all current versions of the P229 in 9mm now ship with 15-round magazines as standard.
