The '''SIG-Sauer MG 338''' is a machine gun manufactured by the American branch of [[SIG-Sauer]]. It was conceived as a weapon to bridge the gap between the [[M240 machine gun|M240]] general-purpose machine gun and the heavier [[Browning M2HB]]. Chambered in the more powerful .338 Norma Magnum (8.6x63mm) cartridge, the MG 338 has a greater effective range than the M240, with effective ranges almost reaching that of the .50 BMG Browning M2. The MG 338 is also lighter than both of these weapons. The machine gun is short-stroke gas operated, with a quick change barrel and gas regulator that the operator can adjust between normal and suppressor use settings.
