The following weapons appear in the video game Resident Evil 4:

Resident Evil 4 (2005)

Handguns

Silver Ghost

Leon Kennedy's standard sidearm, the Silver Ghost [1] is often mistaken for an Heckler & Koch USP. However, Ryoumura Jyoshin (the weapon designer for the Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and Dino Crisis series) admitted that his design was inspired by H&K USP, S&W Sigma, and Ruger P85.

The Silver Ghost bears a very close resemblance to the Smith & Wesson Sigma, especially in the slide, magazine, and lower frame. In the game the gun has brown checked grips with a laser sight pressure switch and a stainless steel slide. The weapon however is shown with a hammer as opposed to a striker. It features an extended barrel, threaded for sound suppressor which is not a feature on the S&W Sigma pistols but are featured in the H&K USP. The Silver Ghost is longer than the Sigma or USP.

Albert Wesker uses this weapon in the Mercenaries Mini game, albeit equipped with a detachable suppressor.

Punisher (FN Five-seveN)

Based off of Fabrique Nationale's Five-seveN pistol which normally chambers the 5.7×28mm cartridge originally intended to pierce low-levels of body armor. The version seen in-game chambers regular 9×19mm rounds. In game, the weapon has the ability to pierce shields and multiple enemies. It has a modified trigger and custom grips.

This weapon can be purchased from the Merchant or won in a contest after shooting 10 of 15 blue medallions scattered across two areas. If all medallions have been shot, the Punisher will have a free upgrade added onto it, making it slightly more powerful than the standard Handgun.

When every pistol is upgraded to its maximum, the Punisher is the weakest, but it can penetrate through several enemies.

The gun is used by Ada in Assignment Ada and The Mercenaries.

Red 9 (Mauser C96 "Red 9")

A 9×19mm version of the Mauser C96 pistol, one of the first semi-automatic pistols to enter production in the world. The Red9 version was developed during World War I and chambered 9mm Parabellum to keep ammo supplies standard, but when soldiers began to load the weapon with the wrong type of ammunition, a large red-painted number 9 was placed on the grip to differentiate the model from the standard Mauser.

This weapon can be purchased from the Merchant, along with a stock which improves its accuracy significantly. It is the most powerful 9mm pistol in the game and when coupled with its stock, it is also the most accurate, but it is also the slowest.

Vagrant Spaniard Luis Sera uses this as his primary weapon in the main game.

Blacktail (Springfield Armory XD-9)

The Blacktail, based on a Springfield XD-9 with 4" barrel and the grips of an FN FP9, it has a better handling than the standard handgun. It appears to be a rather bulkier larger caliber version of the XD rather than 9×19, perhaps a design error. After Leon reaches the castle, it can be purchased from the Merchant. Ada uses this as her pistol in the main game and Separate Ways. Leon uses it in The Mercenaries. Fully upgraded, it is the second fastest firing and highest capacity handgun in the game, with the Matilda being at number 1.

Ashley isn't the only one equipped with ballistics.

Matilda (Heckler & Koch VP70M)

The Matilda, an H&K VP70M is unlocked to be purchased from the Merchant after successfully completing the normal difficulty of the game. It has a stock, although, unlike other guns in the game the stock cannot be removed. It is the same handgun Leon uses as a rookie cop in Resident Evil 2. Fires three-round bursts. It's exclusive upgrade grants a 100-round magazine and a near machine gun rate of fire, making it an extremely effective handgun. The gun's name is a reference to the movie Leon The Professional.

Bonus

Fictional Umbrella Red Hawk ammo box for 9×19 rounds.

Thirty cartridges, yeah right. You'll be hard pressed to find one with more than 20 in the game.

Magnums

Broken Butterfly (S&W Schofield M3/Colt SAA hybrid)

The Broken Butterfly is a double-action revolver chambered in .45 Magnum (.45 Schofield), it has a firepower of 50 when you make the exclusive upgrade. Noting the gun is a top-break revolver, there are few revolvers it could be, but the closest it seems to be is a hybrid of the Smith & Wesson Schofield and Colt Single Action Army. May be found in a section of the castle after freeing Ashley, or may be purchased from the Merchant. The barrel and hinge resemble the Model 3, while the frame is nearly identical to the Colt SAA.

Amusingly, Leon reloads it so energetically that he is literally "throwing" bullets into the cylinder rather than simply sliding them into position. It uses the same ammunition as the Killer7 despite that .45 Schofield is not fully interchangeable with some early .45 versions, especially between revolvers and semi-autos.

Though black in detail view and in game, the Broken Butterfly shows up as nickel plated in the attache case.
Leon fully reloads the Broken Butterfly by putting in 3 shells.

Killer7 (Colt M1911)

The Killer7 is a magnum version of the Colt M1911 that may be purchased from the Merchant, the only weapon that has no exclusive ability when fully upgraded. The in game version is equipped with a AMT Hardballer scope-style laser. The name of the weapon is a reference to the game Killer7, in which the character Kaede uses a similarly modified M1911. The design of the gun is a Terminator homage.

Bonus

The ".45 Magnum" ammo box, even though ".45 ACP" can be seen on it.

A rare sight, but a welcome one.

Handcannon (Smith & Wesson M500)

The Handcannon, based on a S&W M500 is available if you can get a five-star rank with all characters on all stages (The Mercenaries). When fully upgraded has infinite ammunition and deals the highest damage of any non-explosive weapon in the game. The in-game weapon is equipped with a laser sight. Upon reloading Leon loads three rounds manually (it's initial capacity) unless the reload is maxed, in which case he uses speedloaders.

Bonus

A box of ".5 caliber" (.50) Handcannon ammo. The cartridges looks to have a rim, which means .500 S&W Magnum. Not .50AE.

The answer to this question is always yes.

Submachine guns

TMP (Steyr TMP)

The Steyr TMP, simply called the TMP may be purchased from the Merchant. A stock may also be purchased to improve accuracy and reduce recoil. HUNK uses a TMP modified with a fixed stock, fore-grip, sawn-off barrel, and PEW laser sight box in The Mercenaries. Krauser also uses this same modified TMP in his boss battle in the main game. Ada also uses it in The Mercenaries and regular game. The rounds it uses are "custom" 9×19mm rounds, probably different kinds of loads and types of bullets in magazine (JHPs, JSPs, FMJs, EFMJs).

Brügger & Thomet MP9

In The Mercenaries mini-game, HUNK carries a customized TMP based on the B&T MP9 as his main weapon. It has several upgrades and looks slightly different from the standard TMP, as well as being already equipped with a folding stock.

Bonus

The box of TMP ammo.

The arms dealer from Far Cry 2 would love this stuff.

Chicago Typewriter (Thompson M1A1)

The Thompson M1A1 submachine gun appears in the game under one of its many famous historical nicknames, the "Chicago Typewriter". This gun is unlocked by completing the main game (for Leon) and mini-game Assignment Ada (for Ada) and may be purchased from the Merchant for 1 million (300,000 for Ada) pesetas after that. Comes with unlimited ammo. If used with the Mafia costume (not present in the original GameCube version of the game), it will load from drum magazines, while the handguard is replaced with the foregrip normally found on the M1921 and M1928 Thompson variants.

Blazing away, not really at anything.
Reloading is not necessary, but hey. Leon rocks in a new magazine, then tilts the Typewriter sideways to pull the bolt.

Shotguns

Shotgun (Remington 870)

The first shotgun that Leon gets. May be obtained in one of three ways. On easy mode the weapon is in inventory, on normal modes or higher you may obtain it for free in the upstairs section of a house in the village "Pueblo", or it can be purchased from the Merchant. Not an outstanding weapon, nonetheless when fully upgraded it's range exceeds that of any shotgun, enabling it to kill enemies normally out of shotgun range.

Remington 870 - 12 gauge
Easily the lowest detail weapon model in the game.

Riot Shotgun (Benelli M3 Super 90)

This stainless-steel shotgun is a custom Benelli M3 S90 with elements from the Benelli M4 Super 90 added to it, notably the collapsible stock and the top rail on the receiver. It is identically the same Assault Shotgun from the Resident Evil Remake. Many fans mistakenly claim this is a M4, however the real M4 is semi-auto only while M3 has both action types. The in-game version is actually a modified M3, because many of Benelli M1, M3 and M4 stocks are interchangeable, although no such weapon is confirmed nor seen in the real world. Despite the fact that many prefer the tighter spread of the Riot Gun over the Striker's wide-shot, it is rarely used once the Striker becomes available due to its compact design, despite the fact that the Riot Gun has clearly been intentionally modified with the M4 collapsing stock.

The weapon may be purchased from the Merchant from chapter 3-1. It is also used by Leon in the Mercenaries.

Striker (Armsel Protecta)

The Armsel Protecta may be purchased from the Merchant. Unlike the other pump-action shotguns, this weapon is semi-automatic enabling it fire faster. Upgraded to maximum it has a 100-round drum, which Leon can reload completely by putting two shells into it. Leon aims and fires the Striker from the hip like Ada's shotgun, despite a foldout stock being clearly present.

Note the lack of a winding key on the drum, making it a Protecta.

Ada's Shotgun (Mossberg 500)

Ada uses this stubby Mossberg 500 Cruiser shotgun in Separate Ways. The gun in the game has stainless steel receiver and barrels and the action bar is in the pistol grip style. Its damage is average for a shotgun.

Mossberg 500 - 12 gauge
Another very low detail model, like the standard pump action.

Bonus

Fictional Heavyfield ammo box.

They are 12 gauge sabot slugs, although you can't fire a sabot slug from a smoothbore shotgun, they have a wide spread anyway. Hybrid is also misspelled as Hybred, though whether this is intentional or not is unknown.

Rifles

Bolt-action rifle (Springfield M1903A4)

A modified version of the Springfield M1903A4 rifle which fires commercial .223 Remington rounds as opposed to the real steel's .30-06 Springfield (7.62×63mm) cartridges. May be purchased from the Merchant. A higher magnification scope can be bought for the rifle, increasing it's accuracy at long range. When fully upgraded, the bolt action Springfield's damage greatly exceeds that of it's semi-auto counterpart, and rivals the power of the magnums.

Semi-auto rifle (Heckler & Koch SL8-1)

A semi-auto H&K SL8-1 may be purchased by Leon from the Merchant. Being a semi-auto it fires significantly faster. Like the bolt-action rifle, a custom scope can also be attached. This gun is used by Ada in Separate Ways, Assignment Ada, and The Mercenaries. It is also used by Wesker in The Mercenaries.

Merchant exclusives

The Merchant has a few weapons on display that can not be purchased. These include a Steyr SPP (or a TMP missing its fore-grip), a low-detail H&K SL8, and a few (very, very low-detail) unknown handguns.

Other weapons

Rocket launcher/special rocket launcher/infinite launcher (RPG-7)

The standard rocket launcher may be purchased any time from the Merchant, or it can be found in the castle. The special rocket launcher is a special-event item. The infinite rocket launcher is available for purchase from the Merchant upon completion of the game once. Obviously the rocket launchers are capable of dealing heavy damage to any creature, even killing bosses with one shot when aimed at their weak spots.

Ganado militia custom minigun

Saddler's ganado combatants/militants on island complex have several custom Gatling-type machine guns with 9 barrels, they're equipped with shield.
