Police Squad!

Police Squad! (1982).

Police Squad! was a 1982 television comedy series that starred Leslie Nielsen as bumbling police detective Frank Drebin. The show, which was created by the same team that produced the film Airplane!, parodied the cliches of popular crime series of the 1960s and 1970s. Police Squad! premiered in the US on ABC in 1982 and only lasted six episodes. The series subsequently gained a cult following that would culminate into a trilogy of feature films, beginning with The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!. Note: The episodes are denoted by number only, due to the fact that one of the gags in the show was that the announcer would name a different episode than the title that would appear onscreen.

Handguns

Colt Detective Special

The main sidearm of Det. Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) is a Colt Detective Special. Drebin's superior, Capt. Ed Hocken (Alan North) uses a Detective Special as well.

Colt Detective Special - .38 Special

Drebin's assistant, Pete Prussing, aims his Detective Special during a crime scene recreation in Episode 1.

Drebin fires his Detective Special during his stand-off with Sally Decker in Episode 1.

Drebin draws his Detective Special while working undercover in Episode 2.

Capt. Hocken has a Detective Special in a holster on his waist in Episode 3.

"Special guest star" William Shatner uses a Detective Special to fire back at assassins just before he is poisoned during the credits of Episode 4. The revolver is on the table in front of him.

Smith & Wesson 4th Model

During the opening credits, Abraham Lincoln (Rex Hamilton) fires back at his assailants with what appears to be a blued Smith & Wesson 4th Model. This character was never a character on the actual show but was a staple of the main credits. (If the show had lasted another season, Lincoln firing at the screen would have been replaced with Gandhi firing at the screen with an assault rifle, according to the show's producers).

Colt Official Police

Sally Decker (Kathryn Leigh Scott) uses two Colt Official Police revolvers when setting up the murder of Jim Johnson (Terry Wills) and Ralph Twice (Russell Shannon) in the opening scene of Episode 1. The crime lab scientist Ted Olsen (Ed Williams) is later seen firing both revolvers into sets of tapes of Barbara Walters interviews in order to prove a point to Drebin.

The special guest star Georg Stanford Brown in Episode 2 is crushed by a safe while holding a Smith & Wesson Model 19.

Luca holds a Smith & Wesson Model 38 "Bodyguard" on Drebin when he takes Mary, the boxer's wife, hostage in Episode 2.

Stella (Rebecca Holden) fires a Smith & Wesson Model 10 Snubnose with white grips on Drebin when he comes to her door in Episode 5. Gunderson's thug Leo (Robert Costanzo) later uses the same revolver.

A Civil War soldier in Episode 6 steps off the elevator from Police Squad into a battle with a Remington 1858 New Army.

Willy (Jerry Layne) threatens Drebin and Veronica (Claudette Nevins) in Episode 6 has a Single Action Army before Drebin disarms him in his typical fashion.

MP40

A hitman named Luca (Irwin Keyes) claims to be a member of the press to get in to see one of Martin's boxers in Episode 2, despite the ammunition, axe, bombs, grenades, and MP40 he is carrying.

A maid working for Police Squad dusts the MP40 for prints as Hocken and Drebin inspect the "suicide".
