O Brother, Where Art Thou? is a 2000 American comedy-drama-musical film, written, produced, edited, and directed by the Coen Brothers. It is a loose retelling of Homer's epic poem The Odyssey, with the action relocated to the Depression-era American South. In 1937 Mississippi, convict Ulysses Everett McGill (George Clooney) escapes from a chain gang with fellow prisoners Pete (John Turturro) and Delmar O'Donnell (Tim Blake Nelson) in tow. Remington 870
One of the Sheriffs carries a Remington 870, which is anachronistic for 1937. The somewhat similar looking and earlier Remington Model 31 would have been more appropriate.
M1928 Thompson
Several of the posse chasing the gang carries M1928 Thompson submachine guns. George "Baby Face" Nelson (Michael Badalucco) also carries a Thompson, referring to it as his "Choppa" and using it to fire on police and cattle, stopping and (rather realistically) clearing jams several times.
