NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service

NCIS is an American crime procedural series that centers around agents of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service investigating criminal cases involving military personnel in the US Navy and Marine Corps. The series is a spinoff of the series JAG, as most of the characters were introduced in the JAG Season 8 episodes "Ice Queen" and "Meltdown". Created by Donald P. Bellisario (Magnum P.I.), the series (which originally was titled Navy NCIS in order to differentiate itself from the CSI franchise) premiered as a weekly show on CBS in September of 2003 and continues to air original episodes on the network. The series' current cast includes Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, Sean Murray, Pauley Perrette, and David McCallum. NCIS would itself spawn two spinoff series: first in 2009 with NCIS: Los Angeles (whose characters were introduced in the NCIS Season 6 episodes "Legend Part I" and "Legend Part II") and then in 2014 with NCIS: New Orleans (whose characters were introduced in the NCIS Season 11 episodes " "Crescent City, Part I" and " "Crescent City, Part II").
