Men of War (Russian: В тылу врага 2: Лис пустыни, or Behind Enemy Lines 2: Desert Fox) is a 2009 real-time strategy video game. Players issue orders to and/or take direct control of soldiers on a simulation-driven battlefield.

The game takes place during World War II (with the exception of the Vietnam expansion pack) and features battles set in Europe, the Soviet Union, Crete, and North Africa across three different campaigns for the Americans, Germans and Soviets. The Empire of Japan was later introduced as a multiplayer faction in a patch.

On November 1, 2009, a sequel called Men of War: Red Tide (Russian: "Черные бушлаты") was released, featuring missions centered on the Soviet Naval Infantry of the Black Sea Fleet, in addition to adding the arsenals of two more countries, Italy and Romania. This game notably featured no multiplayer or editor.

On February 25, 2011, a stand-alone expansion pack called Men of War: Assault Squad was released, featuring more small arms and high quality weapon models. The expansion pack focused on the multiplayer and infantry combat aspects of the game more.

On September 9, 2011， another stand-alone expansion called Men of War: Vietnam was released, featuring 2 campaigns focused on the Vietnam War (of the Vietcong and their Russian Advisors, and American Forces respectively) and featuring Vietnam War-era weapons.

On April 12, 2012, a sequel called Men of War: Condemned Heroes was released, featuring several campaigns focusing on the infamous Soviet "Penal battalions" and high quality human models.

It is not to be confused with the Perry Lang's action film Men of War.

M1 Garand

The M1 Garand is used by US soldiers in game. It's a semi-automatic rifle which means the rate of fire is higher than other bolt-action rifles, but it only holds 8 rounds of "Rifle ammo".

M1A1 Carbine

The M1A1 Carbine is used by US Soldiers. It holds 15 rounds, more than any other rifle-type weapon in Men of War.

In Men of War, the STG-44 is classified as a SMG and called "MP-44", a popular misnomer. It holds 30 Rounds of "Pistol Ammo" and the range of the STG-44 is longer than other SMGs.

The FG 42 is used by the Fallschirmjäger (German Paratroopers, hence the "FG" 42) in multiplayer mode. Like the STG-44, the FG-42 in game is also classified as a SMG. It holds 20 rounds of "Pistol Ammo".

Most of the Machine Guns in game use the "MG Ammo Belt", but large-caliber Machine Guns like the DShK or Browning M2 use another kind of "MG Ammo Belt".

Rifles

Like the original Men of War, all assault rifles (AK-47\M-16) are classified as SMGs, loading "Pistol Ammo". However, battle rifles like the M-14 still use "Rifle Ammo".

SKS

The SKS is used by NVA Riflemen. The model of the SKS in game has no bayonet attachment.

AK-47

The AK47 is used by NVA soldiers, and it is also used by SOG member Bill Kirby in the US Campaign.

M16

M16 rifles, used by US soldiers and ARVN Rangers, have -2 ammo per magazine (for example a M16 with 20-Round magazine only holds 18-rounds).

The original M16, the first version, firing in a 20-round magazine, adopted in large numbers by the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam. This has the original 3-prong flash hider. It would later be replaced by the upgraded M16A1 - 5.56x45mm

XM177E1

XM177E1s are used by Carl Dillan and some US Special Forces operators.

Colt Model 609 aka U.S. Army's XM177E1- 5.56x45mm. This Carbine utilized the partial magazine fence, the tear drop forward assist, but kept the 10" barrel and Flash hider/Suppressor that did not have a grenade ring (a later feature on the E2 model).

Vickers K

The Vickers K machine gun is available in Men of War:Assault Squad. Surprisingly, the Vickers K is not mounted on any vehicles or aircraft, but used by the British SAS in multiplayer.
