The MP-412 REX (REX stands for 'Revolver for EXport') is a Russian double-action revolver with a break-open frame and an automatic extractor. It was developed by Izhmekh in the late 1990s and intended for export, but the revolver never made it past the prototype stages. It was mainly created for the civilian market.
The MP-412 was a further development of the MP-411 "Latina" (a compact top-break 8-shot .22LR revolver, introduced in 1997) design, for more powerful ammunition. The first sample was created in 1998 and was chambered in .38 Special. Subsequent known revolvers had a modified design, and were chambered in .357 Magnum. A pocket version in .22 LR (similar to MP-411) was also created. REX revolvers were publicly presented at the IWA-2000 weapons exhibition in Nurenberg, Germany. However, soon after this the development was closed. The project was canceled as a result of a lack of markets, since the largest export market, the United States of America, banned imports of Russian handguns since the mid-1990s.
