This article is about the aircraft machine gun produced in the 1930s. For the World War I light machine gun, see Bergmann MG 15nA.

The MG 15 is a German aircraft machine gun adopted by the Luftwaffe as a flexible-mounted machine gun in the 1930s. By 1941, it was phased out from air service by other machine guns (such as the MG 81, MG 81Z, MG 131, and MG 151) and some examples were converted for infantry use near the end of the war.

The MG 17 is the MG 15's fixed-mount sibling.

The MG 15 was produced under license in Japan as the Type 98 flexible-mounted machine gun in the Imperial Japanese Army and as the Type 1 machine gun in the Imperial Japanese Navy. The Type 98 was initially produced in 7.92mm Mauser but was later changed to the same 7.7x58mmSR cartridge as the Army's Type 89 machine gun; the 7.7mm version was designated Type 98 Otsu ("otsu" in this context being analogous to "B") with the 7.92mm version retroactively designated Type 98 Kou ("A"). The Navy's Type 1 was chambered in 7.7x56mmR (.303 British), ensuring ammo compatibility with their Type 97 and Type 92 machine guns. On the flip side, this meant the Army and Navy guns were not able to use the same ammo, a typical example of the state of the relationship between the two services.
