Lolita is a 1962 drama directed by Stanley Kubrick. Humbert Humbert (James Mason) is a college professor of French Poetry who becomes obsessed with a young girl, Dolores Haze, nicknamed "Lolita" (Sue Lyon}, the daughter of Charlotte Haze (Shelley Winters}.

Charlotte removes a S&W Model 10 from a dresser drawer.
Charlotte tells Humbert the revolver is unloaded, but obviously this is not the case.
Humbert reloads the revolver and contemplates the possibilities.
Humbert leaves the revolver on the washbasin while taking a relaxing bath.
