Live Free or Die Hard is the fourth installment in the Die Hard film series. This 2007 sequel was directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld) and Bruce Willis returns as NYPD Lieutenant John McClane, who finds himself paired with a young hacker (Justin Long) as they must attempt to stop cyber terrorists from shutting down the United States government. The cast also included Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Timothy Olyphant, Maggie Q and Cliff Curtis. The film was released internationally under the title Die Hard 4.0.

Handguns
SIG-Sauer P220R
In this fourth installment, Detective Lieutenant John McClane (Bruce Willis) changes his sidearm to a SIG-Sauer P220R (nowadays, this model is simply known as the standard P220) instead of the Beretta 92FS he carried in the previous films. The use of a SIG-Sauer series pistol is more in line with the sidearms approved for on-duty carry by the NYPD (although the P226 DAO is the actual approved NYPD model). During the confrontation with Mai Linh (Maggie Q) at the power plant, she takes the P220R and points it at Matthew Farrell (Justin Long). After McClane hits her with an SUV, she loses the gun and it is never seen again. McClane later takes a Beretta Px4 Storm from Robert Russo (Yorgo Constantine), which becomes his weapon for the rest of the film.

After being accused of not being a real cop, Detective Lt. John McClane shows Matthew Farrell the SIG-Sauer P220R in his shoulder holster.

It's worth noting that only three of the shots are actually seen on-screen, with the remainder edited in as background sound effects as the camera cuts to the rest of the terrorists in their van.

...and fires four rounds at a fire extinguisher in the hallway of Farrell's apartment building, launching a terrorist out of the window with the blast in true action movie fashion. McClane fires two more rounds at the remaining terrorists as they retreat back to Farrell's apartment, and the gun runs empty.
McClane drops an empty magazine out of his SIG-Sauer P220R before reloading. Although the magazine appears to stick somewhat instead of dropping free, this appears to be because McClane is shaking the pistol vigorously, due to nerves and panic, which is preventing it from smoothly ejecting (as opposed to shaking it
because it's sticking).

McClane peaks around the corner with his P220R (now loaded again) drawn. He fires a total of seven rounds from his second mag, with one round evidently lost in editing.
After firing at the terrorist in the kitchen, McClane has to reload his P220R a second time. This magazine seems to contain sixteen rounds, though it's noteworthy that the first eight (a proper full capacity) are all shown on-screen, and then the second eight are all shown from the perspective of the bullet impacts; this could simply be standard movie embellishment, or it could be seen as showing the same eight rounds from two different points of view.
McClane's P220R runs empty again after he blindly fired at the terrorist's direction. In total, McClane used all three of his carried magazines and then ran out of ammo, something exceptionally rare in action movies.

Beretta Px4 Storm
Terrorist Robert Russo (Yorgo Constantine) is seen carrying a Beretta Px4 Storm in several scenes, both with and without a suppressor. John McClane (Bruce Willis) takes it after killing the previous owner and uses it as his sidearm in the second half of the film. During the final confrontation with Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant), Matthew Farrell (Justin Long) uses McClane's dropped Px4 Storm to kill Emerson (Edoardo Costa).

Beretta 92FS
One of the terrorists is seen using a Beretta 92FS to take care of the hackers in the semi-truck, including Casper (Andrew Friedman). An interesting note, the particular Beretta used in the film was the same prop gun used by Bruce Willis in Die Hard 2 and Die Hard with a Vengeance. Call it a "cameo" role, if you will. This is also the only film in the Die Hard series in which McClane does not use a Beretta 92 variant as his own sidearm.

Jericho 941 R
Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant) uses a stainless steel Jericho 941 R as his sidearm, which he points at Lucy McClane (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) during the final confrontation and uses to shoot Matthew Farrell (Justin Long) in the leg. Later, Gabriel sticks the muzzle of the Jericho into John McClane's (Bruce Willis) gunshot wound, so McClane simply forces him to pull the trigger, causing him to shoot through his pre-existing wound.

Glock 22

They are noted as such by their muzzle diameters and by the fact the FBI actually carries Glock 22s in real life. John McClane (Bruce Willis) at one point also takes a Glock 22 from a terrorist disguised as an FBI agent and uses it to kill him.

During the scene at the power plant, McClane (Bruce Willis) runs into a terrorist (Michael Papajohn) who is armed with a Heckler & Koch USP Tactical fitted with a KAC suppressor. Mk 12 Mod 0 SPR
The rifle used by Rand (Cyril Raffaelli), first in the shootout at Matthew Farrell's (Justin Long) apartment, and later during chase scene in Washington D.C., is the Mk 12 Mod 0 SPR (Special Purpose Rifle). This is a little-known AR-15 derivative developed by Crane and is used by U.S. SOCOM personnel in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other hot-spots globally. The Mod 0 uses a PRI carbon fiber handguard while the Mod 1 uses a Knight Armament free-floating aluminum handguard. The weapons in the film are fitted with a Leupold Mark 4 CQ/T rifle scope, suppressors, brass catchers, Surefire M900A weaponlight foregrips, as well as AN/PEQ-2 IR designators, and are fired on automatic (which suggests that the terrorists simply took the upper receivers/barrels and slapped them on full-auto lowers).

Since the weapon is fitted with a brass catcher (a safety precaution in a helicopter), it is not necessary to use blanks during this scene and instead CGI muzzle flashes are used. They are quite obvious to spot since they are shown as emitting a "star" pattern flash, despite coming out of a flat-tube suppressor.

Rand climbs out of the co-pilot's seat and prepares to fire at the police car in the tunnel. Here we see the brass catchers are attached by electrical tape wrapped all the way around the gun, including the magazine. This completely eliminates the possibility of reloading the weapon.

General Dynamics GAU-22/A
At one point, John McClane (Bruce Willis) is forced to face a Lockheed Martin F-35B jet (noted from the F-35A model by its short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) system similar to a Harrier jet). This jet is erroneously outfitted with a pair of GAU-22/A 25mm guns (a four-barrel model of the older GAU-12/U) under the fuselage when the actual F-35B is only outfitted with a single external gunpod. At the time the film was made it was hard to find information on where this was mounted (the final model being a single wedge-shaped gunpod mounted on the centreline hardpoint), so it's possible the filmmakers simply assumed the F-35 used twin external pods like some models of the Harrier. The guns devastate the semi-truck McClane is driving but the pilot recklessly hovers the aircraft around a demolished cluster of overpasses and eventually crashes when debris falls in the lift fan, causing engine failure.
General Dynamics GAU-22/A - 25x137mm
The F-35B jet somehow effortlessly flying around a collection of overpasses while inaccurately firing off two GAU-22/A 25mm Gatling guns. This is obviously fake because the car on the left is not even so much as scorched by the high-powered jet exhaust mere feet away. The F-35B's VTOL engine is purely for takeoffs and landings and not designed to allow the aircraft to operate like a helicopter for prolonged periods, and would overheat if used this way.
