Law & Order - Season 9 (1998 – 1999)

Season 9 of Law & Order introduced Angie Harmon as ADA Abbie Carmichael, replacing the departed Jamie Ross (Carey Lowell), who left the district attorney's office to spend more time with her daughter. Compared to Ross, Carmichael's politics leaned much more conservative and less lenient on criminals (reflecting some of Harmon's own political leanings.) A Texas native, she also wasn't afraid to push for the death penalty and wasn't as territorial as her boss Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) about punting jurisdiction to get harsher sentences for criminals. Season 9 was also the last for Benjamin Bratt, who left the show to concentrate on his film career, with Rey Curtis taking early retirement from the police force to support his wife, who had been suffering from multiple sclerosis since Season 7. Bratt would return as Curtis for a guest appearance in the 20th and final season.

"Sideshow" (S9E14) was the third and final two-part crossover the show had with fellow NBC stablemate Homicide: Life on the Street, which was in its final season. The episode "Empire" (S9E20) featured Julia Roberts as a guest star, who was arguably the biggest A-list movie star ever to appear on the series. (Her decision to appear no doubt had something to do with the fact that she was dating Benjamin Bratt at the time.)

Detective Lennie Brisco (Jerry Orbach) is armed with a Smith & Wesson Model 36 revolver. Despite the NYPD having officially switched to automatic pistols on January 1st, 1994, older officers like Briscoe were grandfathered in and allowed to continue carrying revolvers.

MGC M-16 Model Gun Corp Replica Rifle

ESU officers are seen with MGC M-16 Model Gun Corp Replica Rifle in numerous episodes. Some of them have round A2 handguards.

The MGC M16 Assault rifle: a non firing metal replica built by the Model Gun Corp of Japan and one of the most used non firing replicas of the M16 in movies and television. The 'forward assist' on the early models like the one imaged here are bolt inserts to keep the receiver together. Modern MGC M16 replicas have improved by third parties over the years (like adding A1 flash hiders) making it more accurate to the real thing making it harder for 'Connoisseurs' to identify.

A skinhead (Desmond Curran) is armed with a Valmet rifle in "Hate" (S09E10). There's not enough detail to make a more specific ID. Sgt. Frank Shepard (Tom Kemp) of the Pennsylvania State Police refers to it as a "modified AK."

Glock 17

Det. Rene Sheppard (Michael Michele) of the Baltimore PD carries a Glock 17 as her sidearm in "Sideshow" (S09E14).

Unidentifiable pistol

Bail Agent Ron Difka (Christopher McHale) draws an unidentifiable pistol when Briscoe and Curtis burst into the room in "Hunters" (S09E13.) It is never seen clearly enough to properly identify, but it might be an M1911A1.

Bail Agent Andy Grenada (Nick Sandow) picks up an unidentifiable shotgun with a pistol grip when Briscoe and Curtis burst into the room in "Hunters" (S09E13.) Curtis later picks it up, but it is never seen clearly enough to identify.
