Law & Order - Season 13
Season 13 of Law & Order saw the introduction of Senator Fred Dalton Thompson as new District Attorney Arthur Branch, replacing Dianne Wiest as Interim DA Nora Lewin. Dalton was at the time still serving as the junior senator from Tennessee, which made him the first sitting US Senator to become a regular cast member on a television series. (He had not run for reelection in 2002 and his term expired in 2003.) Thompson was a lawyer by trade, having served in the US Attorney's office as well as special counsel in the Senate Watergate Committee and Senate Foreign Relations Committee before running for the Senate seat in 1994 to fill out Al Gore's term. Prior to taking the Senate seat, Thompson had been familiar to movie audiences for his appearances in such films as No Way Out, Die Hard 2, The Hunt for Red October and Flight of the Intruder.
The transition from Lewin to Branch is never shown, although it is stated later on that Branch was elected District Attorney, whereas Lewin was only an interim appointment to serve out the term of Adam Schiff. Like Thompson, Branch was a southern Republican, and it is explained that his wife is from New York and he moved up north twenty years prior to be with her. His political views were a sharp contrast with his predecessor, and sometimes conflicted with his subordinates, Jack McCoy and Serena Southerlyn. In reality, New York County hasn't had a Republican District Attorney since Thomas Dewey (yes, THAT Thomas Dewey.) Branch, like Lewin, would be featured in all of Law & Order's spinoffs as well.

Smith & Wesson Model 36
Detective Lennie Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) is armed with a Smith & Wesson Model 36 revolver. Despite the NYPD having officially switched to automatic pistols on January 1st, 1994, more senior officers like Briscoe were grandfathered in and allowed to continue carrying revolvers.
Colt Python
The murder weapon in "Tragedy on Rye" (S13E04) is a snub-nosed, stainless Colt Python, which is described by detectives as a .357. A Python with a 4" barrel is the murder weapon in "Star Crossed" (S13E14).
Charter Arms Bulldog Tracker
The murder weapon in "Under God" (S13E12) appears to be a Charter Arms Bulldog Tracker. The detectives say it is chambered in ".44."
Pistols
Glock 19
Detective Ed Green (Jesse L. Martin) and other NYPD officers are armed with Glock 19 pistols.
Beretta 92FS
One of the murder weapons in "American Jihad" (S13E01) is a Beretta 92FS.
Unidentifiable pistol
An unidentifiable pistol is used in a shooting in "Open Season" (S13E07). It is impossible to make a proper ID.
Shotguns
Ithaca 37
An NYPD officer (uncredited) is seen armed with what appears to be an Ithaca 37 in "Sheltered" (S13E22).
Submachine Guns
Heckler & Koch MP5A2
An ESU officer (uncredited) is seen armed with a Heckler & Koch MP5A2 in "Sheltered" (S13E22). It looks like one of the rubber guns first introduced in Season 12.
Rifles/Carbines
Winchester Model 1892
A patron (uncredited) at a shooting range fires what appears to be a Winchester Model 1892 in "Sheltered" (S13E22).
Remington 700
The murder weapon in "Sheltered" (S13E22) is identified by the police as a Remington 700 chambered in "7 millimeter."
Unidentifiable rifle
A police sniper (uncredited) is armed with an unidentifiable rifle in "Sheltered" (S13E22).
