Law & Order: Criminal Intent was the second television spin-off of the series Law & Order. In each episode, a particular crime was examined from the viewpoint of the detectives in the NYPD's Major Case Squad as well as from the viewpoint of the criminal. For the majority of the series, the detectives' point of view was primarily seen through the eyes of Det. Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Det. Alexandra Eames (Kathryn Erbe). Beginning in Season 5, Det. Mike Logan (Chris Noth), the veteran detective from the original Law & Order, and his respective partners would be seen investigating separate cases in alternating episodes. After Logan was seen retiring from the Department in Season 7, Det. Zach Nichols (Jeff Goldblum) would join the squad and the Goran/Eames team would be seen leaving the force at the end of Season 9's "Loyalty, Part 2" (S9E02). When Goldblum decided not to return for the 10th season, D'Onofrio and Erbe were brought back as Goren and Eames for what would turn out to be the series' final 8 episodes. From 2001 to 2011, the series aired 195 episodes on two networks in the United States: six seasons on NBC and its final four on the USA Network. The series' premise would later be adapted for Russian television.

The following weapons were used in the television series Law & Order: Criminal Intent:

Pistols

Glock 19

Many of the Major Case Squad detectives, including Det. Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio), Det. Alexandra Eames (Kathryn Erbe), Det. Nola Falacci (Alicia Witt) and Det. Mike Logan (Chris Noth) carry the Glock 19 pistol as their sidearm throughout the show. In reality, the Model 19 is the only Glock model authorized by the NYPD for onduty carry by its officers.

The Glock 26 is also the sidearm of choice for Det. Carolyn Barek (Annabella Sciorra), Det. Megan Wheeler (Julianne Nicholson) and Detective Serena Stevens (Saffron Burrows). In reality, the Glock 26 is only authorized to be carried as an offduty weapon.

Revolvers

Colt Detective Special

A Colt Detective Special 3rd Gen was the main service weapon carried by Det. Mike Logan (Chris Noth). He is notably seen holding it in Season 7's "Senseless" (S7E10). As Detective Logan had been serving on the force for twenty-five years, it would not be uncommon for veteran NYPD Detectives, who were sworn officers prior to 1993, to carry Detective Specials. However, the service weapon Logan was seen carrying in the original Law & Order was a Smith & Wesson Model 36.
