Inglorious Basterds (2009)

WARNING! This article contains spoilers.

The following firearms were used in the film Inglourious Basterds:

MP40

Many German soldiers and guards throughout the film are seen with MP40s. Many of the "Basterds" use MP40s as well, including S/Sgt. Donny Donowitz (Eli Roth), PFC Smithson Utivich (B.J. Novak), PFC Omar Ulmer (Omar Doom), PFC Gerold Hirschberg (Samm Levine), and Oberfeldwebel Hugo Stiglitz (Til Schweiger). Wilhelm (Alexander Fehling), another Oberfeldwebel, gets ahold of an MP40 during the Nadine tavern gunfight.

Hirschberg, Stiglitz, and Donny fire MP40s at a group of German soldiers. Stiglitz is holding his sideways so that the brass doesn't hit Hirscheberg.
Omar and Donny fire their MP40s into Hitler's box at Shoshanna's theater.

Walther P38

SD Standartenfuhrer Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz), Gestapo Maj. Hellstrom (August Diehl) and several other German officers carry Walther P38 pistols. At the end, Landa hands his to Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt), who fires it himself. During the Nadine tavern gunfight, Hellstrom fires a P38 as do other German soldiers in the bar and Cpl. Wilhelm Wicki (Gedeon Burkhard), one of the "basterds".

  • Major Dieter Hellstrom (August Diehl): Did you hear that? That was the sound of my Walther. Pointed right at your at your testicles.
  • Lt. Archie Hicox (Michael Fassbender): Why do you have your Walther pointed at my testicles?
  • Major Dieter Hellstrom: Because you've just given yourself away, Captain. [...]
  • Lt. Archie Hicox: I was saying that makes two of us. I've had a gun pointed at your balls since you sat down.
  • Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz (Til Schweiger): That makes three of us. And at this range, I'm a real Fredrick Zoller.

M1 Garand

As the "Basterds" are first assembled, M1 Garand rifles are seen slung over the shoulders of Wilhelm Wicki (Gedeon Burkhard), Smithson Utivich (B.J. Novak), PFC Andy Kagan (Paul Rust), PFC Michael Zimmerman (Michael Bacall), PFC Simon Sakowitz (Carlos Fidel), PFC Omar Ulmer (Omar Doom), and PFC Gerold Hirschberg (Samm Levine). They are also seen wielded by some of the American soldiers in the film-within-a-film "Nation's Pride".

Karabiner 98k

Some of the "basterds", including Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt), Wilhelm Wicki (Gedeon Burkhard), and PFC Gerold Hirschberg (Samm Levine) carry German Karabiner 98k rifles, most likely taken from German troops they captured and killed. Raine's Karabiner has "Inglourious Basterds" carved into the butt. In the propaganda film-within-a-film "Nation's Pride", Fredrick Zoller (Daniel Brühl) fires a Karabiner 98k. With trick editing in "Nation's Pride" (presumably to make the single German soldier appear like a "superhero" to the German audiances), Zoller's bolt-action Karabiner is made to appear to fire semi-automatic shots.

MG42

Hugo Stiglitz (Til Schweiger) carries an MG42 during his first scene at the ambush on the Nazis. In the first trailer, Hirschberg runs down a hallway firing an MG42, but this was never seen in the final cut.

Sawed-Off O/U shotgun

When the "basterds" break Stiglitz out of custody from a Berlin jail, Donny Donowitz (Eli Roth) carries a sawed-off over/under shotgun, using it to shoot a German soldier guarding Stiglitz. It is best seen on a promotional image (seen in the Discussion section of this article).

Walther PPK

When disguised as an SS Captain, British Lt. Archie Hicox (Michael Fassbender) carries a Walther PPK. During the same part of Operation Kino, Hugo Stiglitz (Til Schweiger) disguises himself as a Lieutenant First Class and packs his own PPK. Both men end up aiming their pistols at Gestapo Maj. Hellstrom. After the gunfight in the Nadine tavern, Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) picks up Hicox's PPK and fires it.

Stiglitz and the female German shoot each other in the tavern. This shot is rather curious, since the female German shoots Stiglitz only once, and here he is shown with multiple bullet wounds.

Double Barreled Shotgun

Eric (Christian Berkel), the owner of the tavern in Nadine, keeps a hammerless double-barreled shotgun behind the bar, firing it when the gunfight begins.

Eric fires his shotgun as Wicki shoots at him. Note Stiglitz's knife in Major Hellstrom's neck.
Unless those were rounds from other firearms (which is doubtful, since the rounds aimed at him are from an angle and not perpendicular to the table), there is no way the shotgun was able to spread the pellets that much at that close of range.

Luger P08

As Lt. Raine "debriefs" Bridget by pressing his index finger into her leg wound, Donny Donowitz (Eli Roth) holds his Luger P08 on her. Fredrick Zoller (Daniel Brühl), as a German private, carries a Luger as his issued sidearm and arms himself with it while attending the premiere of "Nation's Pride".

Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket

Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) prepares for trouble at the premiere of "Nation's Pride" by loading a Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket and keeping it in her purse, eventually drawing and firing it.

M1 Carbine

Some of the American soldiers in "Nation's Pride" carry M1 Carbines.

M1921 Thompson

Some of the American soldiers in "Nation's Pride" carry M1921 Thompsons. M1928A1s, M1s, or M1A1s would have been more time-appropriate, but its possible that since "Nation's Pride" is a German-made film, it would be easier for the supposed armorers of it to acquire older M1921 Thompsons.

M3 Grease Gun

OSS pistol glove

Donny Donowitz (Eli Roth) and Omar Ulmer (Omar Doom) each use a .38-caliber short-range OSS Pistol Glove when assassinating the two guards outside the German high command. As in real life, these weapons are loaded with a .38 round and punched into the target to fire it.

Aldo Raine's knife

Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) carries a classic American Bowie knife throughout the film, notably using it to carve swastikas into the foreheads of Nazis.

Schutzstaffel Dagger

An SS dagger is seen being sharpened by Hugo Stiglitz (Til Schweiger) while the Basterds wait for Bridget von Hammersmark's rendezvous, and at the end of the film Hans Landa hands his dagger over to Aldo Raine. All SS daggers are engraved with the SS motto "My honor is called loyalty" but in both their appearances, they are carried by German traitors.
