In Love and War is a 1996 romantic war drama based on the true story of a young Ernest Hemingway severely wounded while serving as an ambulance driver during World War I and his subsequent encounter with Agnes von Kurowsky, an American nurse who assisted in bringing him back to health and whose relationship inspired the character Catherine Barkley in Hemingway's novel A Farewell to Arms. Directed by Richard Attenborough, the film stars Chris O'Donnell as Hemingway and Sandra Bullock as von Kurowsky.
