Detective Spooner's Pistol (A dressed up Taurus Model 85)

Det. Spooner's custom futuristic Pistol (really a Taurus Model 85 in a plastic shell)
Det. Spooner's custom futuristic Pistol (really a Taurus Model 85 in a plastic shell)
Detective Spooner searches the Robots for the 'killer'

Spooner (Will Smith) carries a futuristic custom pistol that is supposed to be a Semiautomatic 9mm. It is built from a 2 part plastic shell (with parts molded from a Walther P99) that has a real Taurus Model 85 .38 special revolver hidden inside. Other characters like Lt. Bergin (Chi McBride) also have the sidearm. It is seen in the film next to loaded 9mm magazines, and is holstered with like magazines in adjoining mag pouches, but the real firearm inside the mockup is a .38 special revolver.

Note: the same technique (enclosing a Taurus Model 85 in a plastic shell) to make a futuristic gun was used on the Television show Firefly. Malcom Reynold's hero gun was also a modified Taurus Model 85.

FN P90

FN P90's are carried by the majority of the SWAT teams in the movie I, Robot.

Franchi Spas 12

One of these combination Pump and Semi-automatic shotguns is picked up and used by Lieutenant Bergin when the NSA robots storm the police station, using it to take down several attackers before being disarmed. His SPAS is heavily modified with a futuristic and extended front end. It is slightly different than the prop (rubber) 'shotguns' of the other police forces in that it does not have multiple grips along the length of the barrel.

Futuristic Shotguns

Future police use a fictional shotgun in the movie I, Robot

The Security and police tactical units carry these futuristic shotguns. In reality, they were all rubber guns, cast from a custom sculpture of a 'tacti-cool' shotgun put together from SPAS-12 parts as well as other models of shotguns. They never fired in the movie and were completely inert movie props.
