Hap and Leonard - Season 1

The following weapons were used in the film Hap and Leonard:

SPOILERS.jpg WARNING! THIS PAGE CONTAINS SPOILERS!

Pistols

Walther PPK

Despite being an anti-war peace activist, Howard (Bill Sage) begins using a Walther PPK in "The Dive" (S1E3). He carries it for the rest of the series, but never fires it.

Howard aims his PPK in the foreground.

Colt M1991A1

Soldier (Jimmi Simpson) uses a Colt 1991A1 Series 80 with a nickel finish and pearl grips throughout the series, waving it around and firing it often. Hap later gets ahold of this pistol in "War" (S1E5), where some closeups perfectly display the gun's manufacturing proofs. Despite the fact that this appears to be a real firearm, all of the gunshots in the show are CGI. This gun is also an anachronism by three years since the show is set in 1988.

Colt 1991A1 Series 80 Stainless - .45 ACP
Soldier (Jimmi Simpson) draws his nickel/pearl 1991A1 in "Trudy" (S1E4).
Soldier fires his 1991A1 at a Texas State Trooper "Trudy" (S1E4). The muzzle flash is clearly CGI, and the hammer simply falls without the slide cycling when the gun is "fired."
The pistol on the table in "War" (S1E5).
Soldier fires his pistol in "War" (S1E5), which is once again added with CGI.
Soldier dual-wields his 1991A1 and Angel's Model 66 in "War" (S1E5).
Hap (James Purefoy) aim's Soldier's own pistol at him in "War" (S1E5).
An excellent closeup of the pistol in the same scene, clearly showing the COLT 1991A1 engraved on the slide.

Smith & Wesson 5906

The Smith & Wesson 5906 first appears in the hands of a police officer in "Savage Season" (S1E1). Another 5906 (likely the same gun based on the identical features like the blued hammer and Novak sights) is used by Paco (Neil Sandilands) starting in "Trudy" (S1E4), and he's seen using it for the rest of the series. In one notable scene in "War" (S1E5), Trudy (Christina Hendricks) struggles with Paco for this gun and knocks it to the floor, causing it to break apart. This is a rare instance in film and television where dropping a firearm actually causes it significant damage. Like the 1991A1 above, this gun is an anachronism since the 5906 began production in 1989, one year after the film is set. The gun seen in the show is actually a later-model 5906, noted by the round trigger guard, making it more anachronistic.

Smith & Wesson 5906 - 9x19mm. Note the late model 5906 pistols have the rounded trigger guard.
The police officer holds his Smith & Wesson 5906 on Soldier (Jimmi Simpson) in "Savage Season" (S1E1).
Paco (Neil Sandilands) holds his 5906 on Howard (Bill Sage) in "War" (S1E5).
The 5906 frame seen on the floor in the same episode. Note the orange magazine follower that's visible since the slide is removed.
Trudy (Christina Hendricks) tries to reassemble the broken gun, but is unable to.

Revolvers

Smith & Wesson Model 66

Soldier's murderous female companion Angel (Pollyanna McIntosh) carries a snub nose Smith & Wesson Model 66 with black rubber grips throughout the series. Soldier and Trudy also use it in "War" (S1E5).

Angel fires her Model 66, which is clearly done with CGI.
Soldier dual-wields his 1991A1 and Angel's Model 66 in "War" (S1E5).

Unknown Revolver

The Texas State Troopers carry what appear to be Smith & Wesson revolvers, but they're only seen briefly and at a distance.

The State Trooper tries to draw his revolver, but is outgunned by Soldier and his 1991A1.

Shotguns

Winchester Model 1912

Chub (Jeff Pope) carries what appears to be a Winchester Model 1912 with the barrel and stock sawed off throughout the series.

Chub aims his shotgun.
Chub "keeps watch."

Double Barrel Shotgun

Hap (James Purefoy) shoots skeet with a double barrel shotgun with internal hammers in "Savage Season" (S1E1).

Savage/Stevens 311A Shotgun - 12 gauge

"Pull." Hap (James Purefoy) aims his shotgun in "Savage Season" (S1E1).
Hap pulls the spent shells out of the breech. Based on the large puff of smoke and the nature of the shot (shooting a skeet midair), this appears to be both the only instance of a gun actually firing on the show, and also the use of live ammunition.

Unknown Pump-Action

Leonard (Michael K. Williams) keeps a pump action shotgun with a field barrel and ornate wood furniture amongst his gun collection. It's never seen in detail and is also seen in promotional material for the show.

Leonard (Michael K. Williams) wipes down his shotgun in "Savage Season" (S1E1).
