The Grenade Mle 1915 "Bertrand is a French tear gas grenade developed during the First World War. It is made of an iron shell held together by lead wire; the shell contains a glass bulb filled with ethyl bromoacetate and four protusions. When thrown the bulb shatters on impact. The grenade was unreliable and the bulb would often shatter while on the move releasing the gas; this risk made it unpopular with soldiers.
