Nice, but where's the trigger?

This article or section is incomplete. You can help IMFDB by expanding it.

Fallout 3 (2008)

The following guns were seen used in the game Fallout 3.

Handguns

10mm Pistol

The back end sights, hammer, slide and grip are definitely from a Desert Eagle. However the barrel and front of the gun are similar to the Dan Wesson PPC revolvers, having an enlarged front that is weighed down to reduce recoil, as well of having a metal canister-like tube underneath the barrel. It looks like Betheseda's idea of what IMI's future designs would have looked like. A unique variant is carried by the Enclave's Colonel Augustus Autumn, and a silenced variant is used by Mr. Burke.

Iver Johnson

The .32 pistol is based on the old top-break Iver Johnson. The player character's Father (voiced by Liam Neeson) uses one, and a unique variant is used by escaped slave Wild Bill.

Smith & Wesson Model 29

The Smith & Wesson Model 29 shoots .44 Magnum rounds, like in real life. It is usually found with a scope, which is probably a reference to Road Warrior. The two unscoped versions in the game is used by the "Mysterious Stranger",who briefly appears during combat at later levels to finish off wounded enemies. It can be gotten through cheats, but this is not recommended because it is far more powerful than the default. A similar revolver is also used by Paulson from the Mothership Zeta add-on pack and can be obtained by killing Paulson and looting his dead body or by making him drop the gun through various means(It should be noted that Paulson is from the mid 1800's, making his gun impossible on several levels - see discussion for more details). A unique variant called the Blackhawk can be obtained from Agatha, but the gun has no relation to the Ruger revolver of the same name.

Shansei C96 Chinese Pistol

As the name implies, this is based on the Shansei Type 17 Mauser C96 lookalike. The Fallout version is chambered for 10mm. It is mostly used by Raiders and Chinese Remnant Soldiers.

Ruger SP101

While not usable, the Ruger SP101 appears on the collectible "Guns and Bullets" magazine. Clearly seen during loading sequences.

Submachine Guns

10mm SMG

The only submachine gun in the game. Its outward appearance seems like it is based on the UMP-9 or MP5K without the foregrip and a more boxy upper receiver. It also has a Skorpion-like folding stock. A unique variant is used by fortune hunter Sydney.

Rifles

Chinese Assault Rifle

One of the more powerful assault rifles in the game, but also not the most accurate. This rifle seems to be based on several AK variants. In the game, it was designed and manufactured by Chinese industrial conglomerate Norinco for the People's Liberation Army during the Resource Wars. It has visual design layout similar to rifles of AK family, but is combining design traits from several weapons - balanced action mechanism like AEK-971 or AK-107 assault rifles, front guard and rear sight like the RPD light machine gun and the folding stock from Type 56-II assault rifle, of actual Chinese production, although only for export. It also shoots 5.56mm rounds, like a Norinco Type 84 rifle.

R91 Assault Rifle

A CETME/G3 based assault rifle. The number in the name obviously references the H&K 91, and cosmetically it looks like the Spanish CETME rifles. It shoots 5.56 NATO rounds, so it is most likely an HK33 or a CETME B or L. A variant called the Infiltrator can be found in the Pitt. The are several notable cosmetic differences between the standard R91 and the Infiltrator: the weapon is now black, stockless, silenced, and equiped with a scope.

Sniper rifle

Several versions of the same design are used in the game. It's hard to tell, but this gun may be based off the SV98 bolt-action rifle. However, it is chambered for .308 and is semi-auto.

.32 Hunting Rifle

It is a Mauser-type bolt-action rifle, and resembles such the Remington Model 700 and Winchester Model 70 series. It uses the .32 Caliber Round. It is interesting to note that while this is a very accurate weapon, the in-game weapon model does not have rear or front sights, nor does it have a scope. In reality, this would make the weapon extremely difficult to aim at longer ranges and would render it almost totally worthless beyond close-range encounters, even to a skilled marksman. Caliber appears to refer to either the 8x57 Mauser round, which is .32 caliber and has roughly the same stopping power as is shown, the .32 Winchester Special cartridge, which most closely resembles the actual round shown during reloading, or the .32-20 cartridge (which is primarily a black-powder lever-rifle cartridge, but it's the only other widely distributed .32 rifle round).

Lincoln's Repeater

This weapon intended to be based off of Lincoln's Henry rifle, presented to him in 1860. It is inaccurately depicted as firing the .44 magnum cartridge instead of .44 caliber black powder cartridge rimfire rifle or the .44 Henry round. This rifle also inaccurately has a wooden handguard in front, very similar to a Winchester Model 1866. While it is possible to modify the rifle to fire .44 Magnum rounds, it was mainly for gameplay reasons because the Magnum round was already implemented and it got confusing to be using 2 identical rounds (similar logic was used with the .32 rifle's ammo).

Lever Action Rifle

In Point Lookout, a rifle resembling Lincoln's Repeater (minus brass) can be found, holding 10 rounds of 10mm, making it a pistol caliber levergun.

Daisy Red Ryder

You will get one in the mission "Growing up Fast".

Shotguns

Sawed off Double Barrel shotgun

The Sawed off Double Barrel shotgun is one of two types of shotgun that can be used in game. This is another Road Warrior reference.

Fallout3dbs.jpg

Double barreled Shotgun

In the Point Lookout add-on, you get this full-sized double barreled shotgun, which only fires both barrels at once (ouch) and reloads in about 1 second. It appears to be the same model as the Sawed-Off Shotgun, but with a full-length barrel and stock.

Combat Shotgun

This fictional shotgun has an overall appearance of the PPSh-41 submachine gun from the fire selector switch located inside the trigger guard, the barrel's protruding muzzle-brake and the drum magazine. The way the reloading procedure is operated also points to the real PPSh-41, but this weapon acts more like an USAS-12 shotgun.

Heavy Weapons

M2 Flamethrower

One of the more common heavy weapons in the game. The Fallout version has a shorter range than the real one.
