Eternal Call (Vechnyy zov) is a Soviet 1976-1983 TV series directed by Vladimir Krasnopolskiy and Valeriy Uskov and based on the eponymous novel by Anatoly Ivanov. The epic family saga depicts the life and fate of Savelievs family from a Siberian village through the events of half a century, from 1906 to 1961. First six episodes were released in 1976, and six more in 1979; these 12 episodes form Season 1 that is set in 1906-1941. Season 2 was released in 1983. It consists of seven episodes (13-19), set in 1942-1961.

The DVD release of the series is truncated in comparison with the original TV release. This page is based on full TV version.

The following weapons were used in the film Eternal Call (Vechnyy zov):

Nagant M1895 revolvers are widely used throughout the series, seen in hands of Polikarp Matveevich Kruzhilin (Pyotr Velyaminov), Pankrat Grigorievich Nazarov (Ivan Lapikov), Yakov Nikolaevich Aleinikov (Vladlen Biryukov), Anna Mikhailovna Savelieva (Ada Rogovtseva), Mikhail Lukich Kaftanov (Yefim Kopelyan), Arnold Milhailovich Lakhnovsky (Oleg Basilashvili), Pyotr Petrovich Polipov (Yuri Smirnov), Kaftanov's trusted man Demyan Inyutin (Nikolay Mikheev), White Army officers, including Col. Vladimir Zubov (Vladimir Kozel), Russian Imperial police officers and prison guards, including Dorofeev (Konstantin Zabelin) and Kosorotov (Mikhail Dadyko), Red partisans, NKVD personnel (including Viktor Markin), and criminals.

Nagant M1895 Revolver - 7.62x38R Nagant. This example was dated 1939 manufacture and was a War time issued weapon. Note the angular front sight which was used from 1930s.

A prison guard Kosorotov (Mikhail Dadyko) holds a Nagant in the same scene.
Arnold Lakhnovsky (Oleg Basilashvili) holds a Nagant during the events of counterrevolutionary rebellion in the town on Novo-Nikolaevsk in Ep.4, set in 1918.
Pyotr Polipov (Yuri Smirnov), Lakhnovsky's agent in revolutionary committee, hands his revolver to Lakhnovsky in Ep.4.

Pistols

Mauser C96

In Eps. 4 and 5 Yakov Aleinikov (Vladlen Biryukov) carries a Mauser C96 pistol in several scenes. His pistol several times switches from a classic C96 to C96 M1930 (see below) and back. Judging by the grips, there are two different Mauser pistols. In one scene in Ep.5 Ivan Saveliev's (Nikolay Ivanov) C96 M1930 also swithes to a classic C96.

Pre-War dated Mauser C96 "Broomhandle" Commercial Version - 7.63x25mm Mauser

When Red partisans are trapped in a stone gorge (Ep.5), Aleinikov has another C96, with standard grips. This pistol appears to be a Wartime Commercial model, with typical solid safety lever knob.
Another view of the same scene. The lanyard ring of Aleinikov's C96 can be seen (at the left).
A closeup of Ivan Saveliev's C96.

Mauser C96 M1930

Mauser C96 M1930 pistols also appear in the series. There are two different props of this anachronistic version of C96, one of early variation, with milled rails on each side of the barrel extension, and another one of late variation, with smooth rails (like the sample gun). The late version of C96 M1930 is used by Yakov Aleinikov (Vladlen Biryukov) during the attack of Kaftanov's gang in Ep.4, and by Ivan Saveliev (Nikolay Ivanov) and Demyan Inyutin (Nikolay Mikheev) in the scene in taiga hamlet in Ep.5. The early version is also seen in Ep.5, used by Yakov Aleinikov and Ivan Saveliev (instead of previously seen late model).
