Eddie Egan (1930-1995) as Det. Walt Simonson carries a Colt Detective Special in The French Connection.
Eddie Egan (1930-1995) was a former NYPD Detective whom the character of "Popeye" Doyle in The French Connection was based upon. Egan would appear in the role of Captain Walt Simonson in the feature film adaptation. Egan would also act in such film as Prime Cut and French Connection II and such series as Police Story and Mannix.
