This article is a candidate for deletion. IMFDB expects certain minimal standards from articles; even if a contributor cannot take their own screenshots, it is still possible to create detailed per-weapon writeups and format an article correctly. Simply dumping a couple of weapon names on a page is essentially demanding we do all the work for you, and this is unacceptable.

The weapons seen in these videogames are:

[edit] Chainsaw/Knuckleduster

The chainsaw used in Doom was a McCulloch Eager Beaver chainsaw.

[edit] Beretta M92F

This is the pistol used in the game. Rendered obsolete once the player gets a minigun, which uses the same ammo.

[edit] 12 Gauge Pump Shotgun/12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun

It can do some extreme damage at close range, and does much less from a distance. The capacity for the Shotgun is normal at 50 rounds, but again, with the backpack, it increases to 100 shells.

The Super shotgun is similar to the regular shotgun, but more powerful and slower. This weapon is found in DOOM II, and it packs a mighty wallop when used at close range. It takes the qualities of the normal shotgun, greater damage at closer range, and amplifies it. A drawback is that it uses two shotgun rounds at once so it uses up ammo twice as fast, however, a single double-barrel blast from the Super-shotgun is proportionately much more damaging than two normal shotgun blasts.

The shotgun found in Doom was actually digitally modeled from a TootsieToy Dakota cap gun.

[edit] Handheld minigun

This weapon is a 6 barreled rotary gun. It will shoot bullets extremely fast giving you the ability to spray an area, and kill everything in it. This weapon oddily uses the same ammo that the pistol does, so if you see "clips" and ammo boxes then grab them. Doom is widely regarded as the originator of the common misconception that "chaingun" is a term that can be used for rotary weapons.

[edit] Plasma Rifle

The Plasma Rifle is a rapid-fire energy weapon firing blue orbs of superheated plasma. In the original DOOM and it's 2D sequels, the Plasma Rifle is an accordion-shaped weapon. It is three times more powerful than the chain gun and fires at nearly an identical rate. It only appears later in the game, and feeds off of the same power cells as the BFG-9000. Arguably the best gun in the game, due to its high power, rapid rate of fire, and lack of splashback effect. A single shot or two can quickly take out weaker enemies, and any of the stronger demons can be killed by it (as opposed to the shotgun or minigun, which physically cannot kill the strongest demons even with full ammo). First introduced when the player-controlled marine arrives on Deimos after passing through the dimensional gateway, and finds them on dead marines there (logically, the marines that had better guns made it further).

In DOOM 3, the Plasma Rifle is modeled more after what a real-world rifle might look like. It is a bullpup weapon with a magazine of 50 shots per-cell, with it's own unique ammunition type. It's rate of fire is decreased, but it is still more powerful and accurate than the SMG and Minigun, though it's projectiles travel slower. It is very effective against the projectiles used by Imps, Mancubi and Revenants. It is most effective at short to medium range.

[edit] Rocket Launcher

The Rocket Launcher is great for long distance kills. It does incredible damage. Be careful when using this weapon as the blast can kill the player if it is fired too close.

[edit] BFG 9000

Although called the "Big Fucking Gun" by fans (and id on occasion), the BFG is called the "Bio-Force Gun" in the movie (Sarge was supposed to use that name, but he called it the Big Fucking Gun anyway). It is the most iconic weapon of the series and by a fair bit the most powerful. The weapon is usually capable of annihilating entire rooms full of enemies in a single blast. As if this is not enough, the round can also be charged. However, if it is charged for two long it will overcharge and explode, killing the player. In DOOM 3, the weapon's projectile, on top of dealing massive amounts of splash damage, also has rays of energy that seek out enemies. This is possible thanks to a guidance chip in the projectile that can be damaged if the projectile is shot, causing it to lose it's guiding rays and become less powerful (though this rarely ever happens except in multiplayer mode). The DOOM 3 BFG holds four rounds of it's own unique ammunition and it will destroy any non-boss monster in one shot.
