The Counselor is a 2013 drama starring Michael Fassbender as the title character, a lawyer who is asked to do a favor that puts events into motion that end up with tragic results. The film was directed by Ridley Scott from a script written by Cormac McCarthy (the author of No Country for Old Men). The cast includes Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, and Brad Pitt.

One of the cartel hitmen is armed with a nickel M1911A1. After the shootout, he is seen using the pistol to hammer in a branch to stop a leak. This pistol is a reference to No Country for Old Men.
