Closer to the Moon is a 2013 Romanian/American comedy that is based on the true story of a 1959 Bucharest bank robbery that was done under the disguise of shooting a film. The cast included Mark Strong, Vera Farmiga, Anton Lesser, Joe Armstrong, Christian McKay and Tim Plester.
The following weapons were used in the film Closer to the Moon:
Pistols
Carpati Md 1974
Though anachronistic for 1958, the Carpati Md 1974 is used by Max Rosenthal (Mark Strong) during the bank robbery and the reconstruction. It is probably a stand-in for the era-correct Walther PPK.
Carpați Md. 1974 - .32 ACP(7.62x17)
"Good day, comrades!" Max Rosenthal (left) enters with his Md 1974 drawn.
"Don't be alarmed, we're shooting a film!" Max Rosenthal (
Mark Strong) creates confusion as they commit the robbery.
"Stop! Stop! Cut! Why are you smiling?" Max argues with the reconstruction actor.
Colt M1911A1
A Colt M1911A1 is used earlier in the film. Another one is used by Răzvan (Joe Armstrong) during the bank robbery.
World War II Colt M1911A1 Pistol - .45 ACP.
The
Colt M1911A1 is held against Iorgu (Christian McKay)'s head
"Good day, comrades!" Max Rosenthal (left) enters with his Md 1974 drawn while Răzvan(
Joe Armstrong)covers him with his M1911.
Walther P38
Max Rosenthal trains Mirel with a Walther P38. Another one is used by Dumi (Tim Plester) during the bank heist.
Walther P38 WWII dated with black grips - 9x19mm
Max teaches Mirel how to shoot.
While Iorgu opens fire in the air with his
MP40, Dumi holds the bank officials at gunpoint with his P38
Submachine Guns
MP40
The MP40 is used by Alice (Vera Farmiga) and Iorgu (Christian McKay) during the robbery.

Iorgu charges into action with his
MP40
While Iorgu opens fire in the air with his
MP40, Dumi holds the bank officials at gunpoint with his P38
Due to an excess of anger (created by a plot turn), Alice (
Vera Farmiga) fires her
MP40 in the air.

During the final scene, the Jilava Prison Guards are seen armed with Romanian contract Vz. 24 rifles.
