Nice, but where's the trigger?

ChiPs(1977-1982)

CHiPs was a television police series that followed two motorcycle officers (portrayed by Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox) of the California Highway Patrol who encountered all sorts of cases while patrolling the freeways of Southern California. Despite being in law enforcement, all of the officers were rarely seen drawing their sidearms. The series was broadcast on NBC for 6 seasons from 1977 to 1982. In 1999, the majority of the cast would reunite for the television film CHiPs '99. In 2017, the series was adapted as a feature film comedy starring Dax Shepard and Michael Peña.

The following weapons were used in the television series CHiPs:

Handguns

Colt Python

The standard handgun used by the California Highway Patrol officers in the series is the Colt Python. The officers who carry the revolver include Officer John Baker (Larry Wilcox) and Officer Frank "Ponch" Poncharello (Erik Estrada). Throughout the series, these officers were never seen actually pulling their revolvers. Only one officer was actually seen pulling his Colt was Officer Barry Baricza (Brodie Greer), who was seen pulling on a charging martial artist, as well as when a couple of men were seen shooting up his patrol car with a Thompson and a shotgun in "Peaks and Valleys".

Officer Barry Baricza (Brodie Greer) puts his hand on his revolver. In this episode (which I just watched again) the viewer doesn't actually see the drawn pistol.

Additionally, the opening credits show what looks like a Smith & Wesson Model 10 .38 Special revolver. [NB. I can't get screen shots with my Apple products, but you can see the fit of the regular stocks and shape of the frame.]

In "The Watch Commander" (Season 3, episode 10), Ponch has a 2" Smith & Wesson .38 revolver in a cross draw holster. (That makes little sense as his right hand is bandaged. I guess that the CHP didn't do any cross-dominant hand training.)

Submachine Guns

M1928 Thompson

In Season 2's "Peaks and Valleys", a M1928 Thompson is seen used by one of the men who shoot up Officer Baricza's patrol car.

M1928 "Tommy Gun" .45 ACP with 50-round drum magazine, made famous through countless classic gangster movies.

Shotguns

Double-Barreled Shotgun

The other man who shoots up the patrol car uses a 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun.
