Blackthorn is a 2011 Western directed by Mateo Gil. Set in Bolivia in 1927 (20 years after the famous shootout depicted in the 1968 film), the story focuses on an older Butch Cassidy (Sam Shepard) who's now living a quiet life as James Blackthorn. He comes across a Spaniard (Eduardo Noriega) who is being pursued by a Bolivian posse, and reluctantly decides to help him.

James Blackthorn (Sam Shepard) carries a Colt Single Action Army "Cavalry" model as his preferred sidearm. Young Butch Cassidy (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) also uses a "Cavalry" model in a flashback scene set in 1908. Various Bolivians also carry Colt Single Actions throughout the film.

Double-Barreled Shotgun

James Blackthorn (Sam Shepard) keeps a double-barreled shotgun at his farm for protection. Yana (Magaly Solier) uses it to defend the farm from the posse members. Eduardo Apodaca (Eduardo Noriega) later uses the shotgun at the salt flats, and carries it for the remainder of the film for protection.
