Big Jake (1971)

Film directed by George Sherman in 1971, starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. Guns seen in this movie:

Colt Single Action Army

Jake McCandles (John Wayne) uses a Colt SAA as his sidearm in a quickdraw holster. He only uses it in the end gunbattle, which he uses to wound Fain in the arm moments before being wounded himself. When Jake runs out of bullets for his Colt, he draws a pitchfork and kills one of Fain's men.

James McCandles (Patrick Wayne), Jake's son, uses a Colt SAA for the first half of his film before switching to Michael's Bergmann 1911.

John Fain (Richard Boone) uses his SAA for the majority of the fight scenes in the film. In the beginning, he guns down several ranchers with his SAA. In the end gunbattle, after being wounded by Jake, he returns fire and wounds Jake in the arm. He also uses his SAA in the end gunbattle to wound Jake's dog in the shoulder and Sam (Bruce Cabot) in the chest.

Several of Fain's men keep SAA's as well.

"Coach Guns"

Jake uses 2 twin double-barrel shotguns in the movie. He refers to them as "my Greeners". Greener was and still is a British maker of fine shotguns. He gives one to Sam, who, along with his knife, uses it as his main weapon. Sam uses the shotgun to kill one of Fain's men (even though it takes two shots to kill the badguy, Sam fires from a long distance away). Jake uses it to kill Fain's brother.

After Fain's brother is killed by Jake's shotgun, Fain asks for his brother's shotgun and fires it at Jake but then runs out of rounds.

Wayne carries a Double-barrel, Remington 1866 Derringer pocket pistol, which he loans to his grandson at the end of the movie. His grandson wounds one of Fain's men.

Movie prop: "Bergmann 1911"

Jake's son, Michael, carries a semiauto pistol, which is suposed to be a "Bergmann 1911". Actually, it is a movie prop, made using a Walther P-38:

The gun has been modified to look similar to this pistol: a Bergmann 1896
