8 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun

Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen) carries an 8 gauge double barreled shotgun. The recoil from this massive gun is so great that Hitch has attached a leather shoulder pad to his coat to help absorb it. The make is never stated, as they always refer to it as simply: "The 8 Gauge". 8 Gauge shotguns were essentially outlawed, as the most common use them was in commercial duck hunting.

Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortensen) appears to carry the Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy".

Winchester Model 1873

Both Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons) and Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) carry the Winchester Model 1873. Both Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons) carry the Winchester 1873 "Short Rifle" version with the 20" octagon barrel.
